Abstract: For the design of flexible pavement, the sub-grade soil strength is estimated with California Bearing Ratio test IS 2720part (IRC-37-2001). In 1929, this test was developed by California Division of Highway and is used to evaluate the suitability of sub grade and the materials used in sub base and base course. This test can be done in the laboratory as well as in the field. But this conventional CBR testing has low repeatability. It is an expensive and time consuming test. Moreover, it is very difficult to mould the sample at desired insitu density in the laboratory. Therefore, to overcome these problems, the other method (Dynamic Cone Penetrometer) is used in this study. This is an instrument used to evaluate insitu strength of pavement base, sub base and sub grade materials. The CBR values are obtained by conventional method and with the help of Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) and both the values are correlated to find the conventional CBR value by using DCP in the field. So, with the help of this relationship, it will be easy to get information about the strength of sub grade over the length of road.

Abstract: At present, the advanced composite materials have gained it acceptance in the aerospace, civil structures and mechanic industries and had increased dramatically from the late eighties to the beginning at this decade. This paper describes an experimental analysis of laminated composite panels made of three different types of fibers reinforced epoxy. The design and dimensions of Al-6061-T6 floor’s panels are taken, while the same design and dimensions of these composite panels are used as well. The objective is to compare the mechanical properties, microstructure and thermal plastic analysis of these laminated composites with AL 6061-T6 alloy characterizations. In addition, vibration analysis of composite’s panels is also performed using NI-LabVIEW and compared with experimental results of Al 6061-T6 panels.

Abstract: Knowing the behavior of building structures through the interpretation of the results of different tests is indisputably the most correct approach to mathematics, mechanics and engineering. Among other things, should be given proper attention differentiation of the analysis, that our approach to each of them will manage to get the necessary and appropriate results in relation to the time spent for each of them. In the material that follows, I’m focused to address the concept of Vulnerability, for defining it as a practical factor in assessing the structure risk, mainly from seismic actions. Serving this concept I have exploited nonlinear analysis (PUSHOVER) and within the segment in which appeared that the structure posses resistance,I have realized two models of vulnerability. Mechanic model that provides physical state of the structur for different levels of seismic force and Economic model  which develops the mechanical model by using economic parameters in terms of reinforcement. The concept of mechanical model aims to liberate the local performance of the structure by modeling its global performance. The concept of these models is addressed in the following paragraphs, together with reflections and improvements about this model. This vulnerability model has an advantage as it is very simple to be realized furthermore is more applicable for the purpose of strengthening the existing structures, as conducts an accurate correlation between the performance of the structure, risk, the level of restoration and total cost.

Title: A Simple Vulnerability Model to Assess the Seismic Risk

Abstract: The objective of this paper is to develop the 85th percentile operating speed models at mid-curve that can be integrated based on shoulder width, degree of curve, length and radius of simple horizontal curves for the horizontal curve on Kerala two-lane rural highways conditions. The speed data measurement is based on Spot Speed Data at specified points and location manually.. The geometric parameters such as radius of curve, shoulder width, degree of curve and length of curve are used to recognize the effect of operating speed models at the mid-curve. If this 85th percentile operating speed prediction model using multiple linear regression analysis is implemented and enhanced into current guideline and standard in Kerala, it could play an important role in designing or redesigning of the horizontal alignment for two-lane rural highway in Kerala.

Abstract: Parboiled rice is one of the most popular rice produts. The process of parboiling involves soaking, steaming and drying and this production requires large amount of water for soaking the paddy.  The soak water contains large  quantity  of organic material and when discharge large quantities of soak water repeatedly over a localised area where it stagnates and putrifies causing pollution of water and groundwater. This study will mainly focus on the effect of rice mills on groundwater at Okkal and Periyar river near Okkal.  The groundwater present in the study area are polluted due to release of waste water from rice mills. To find out the extent of pollution, various water quality parameters such as Alkalinty, Iron, Hardness, Chloride, Acidity, BOD, COD, Dissolved Oxygen and Sulphate were studied. It has been found that the parameters such as Iron, Dissolved Oxygen, BOD and COD are not in the acceptable limit in accordance with the IS 10500 drinking Water Quality Standards.

Abstract: Accelerated diffusion methodology was proved to be an efficient and sustainable method to determine the diffusion characteristics of geomaterials. In comparison to the time consuming conventional methods, this method proved to be a better and viable alternative. To establish the validity of the method studies were performed on clayely soil of 20 micron size. The influence of different electric potentials on diffusion characteristics of this geomaterial was studied.

Abstract: Silos are tall structures used for storage of wide range of materials like cement, grains, carbon black, coal, sawdust etc., They are subjected to many different static and dynamic loading conditions, mainly due to the unique characteristics of stored materials. It is very difficult to determine the magnitude and distribution of stresses and their corresponding failure modes. In the present study, a steel silo stiffened externally with stringers and rings at equal intervals is adopted and a linear static analysis is conducted to determine the stresses and displacement occurring in it. Wind and earthquake loads often undermine the stability of the silos. This study also examines the effect of wind loads on the silo.
