Abstract: Gypsum boards are commonly known as drywall, plasterboards, Sackett board or wallboard. These boards are made of calcium sulfate dihydrate (CaH₄O₆S). common gypsum boards contain paper as a thickener for less consumption of gypsum powder. The focus of the study was to develop a suitable mixture of cogon pulps in gypsum boards (Imperata cylindrica) as a substituting agent and a thickener for gypsum boards for which the researchers refer as the “cogoflex.” Modulus of rupture, Screw pull resistance, weight per unit area, surface fire test, water absorption and thickness swelling test were performed in the study. The percentage of cogon pulps used to add to the mixture of the specimens are 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%. The researchers were able to determine the most suitable proportion of cogon pulps that will be added to the mixture of gypsum.

Abstract: The purpose of the research is to determine the influence of Calcined Petroleum Coke as a partial replacement to carbon fiber as an admixture to the electrical conductivity of cement mortar. Related studies were inspected beforehand by the researchers to have greater foresight with the study at hand. The physical and electrical properties of Calcined Petroleum Coke were determined through testing its resistivity and calculating its density, specific gravity and water absorption. The physical and mechanical properties of cement mortar with Calcined Petroleum Coke and carbon fiber were determined through flexural and compressive strength tests, with samples consisting of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of Calcined Petroleum Coke admixture content; The samples were tested consistently on the 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th curing days. All of the aforementioned tests were applied with multiple trials. Through analyzing the results of the tests and existing data, the comparison between using carbon fiber and Calcined Petroleum Coke as partial admixture to the electrical conductivity of cement mortar was carefully taken into consideration. The findings of the study reveal that the use of Calcined Petroleum Coke as an admixture yielded greater mortar strength while ‘helming’ the resistive capabilities of the carbon fiber; in other words, the use of Calcined Petroleum Coke was found to be more cost-effective than its carbon fiber counterpart. From the data gathered, recommendations were given which will be beneficial to the construction industry and other related studies in the future.

Abstract: The production of cement and extraction of sand has led to long‒term damages to the environment. To alleviate these damages, ways on minimizing usage of cement and sand should be done. For this reason, the purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of reducing the cement and sand content of plaster mortar and partially replaced the two with rice hull ash and sawdust. To assess and evaluate the quality of plaster mortar utilizing sawdust and rice hull ash, a series of test was conducted such as: flow table test, length change test, compressive strength test and a visual inspection of the applied plaster. The method chosen for this study is the experimental method and four (4) mix design ratios were proposed with a 1:4 cement-sand ratio. The results show that the best mix identified within the limitations on this study, is the plaster mortar having a ten percent partial replacement of cement with rice hull ash (by weight) only. This mix design has achieved good workability, has a lower shrinkage percentage and higher compressive strength of 7.13 MPa, in comparison with the control sample. It has a smooth plaster finish and similar color with the ordinary, cement-based plaster. The use of rice hull ash as partial replacement to cement is recommended; not only it minimizes the usage of cement, but also it improves the overall quality of plaster mortar.

Abstract: The Asia green mussel (Perna Viridis) is a widely consumed sea animal that belongs to the family of mollusks and are commonly found in the Asia-Pacific region. Mussel shells are proven to contain high amounts of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3), which is a chemical compound that is dubbed as an ideal fire-retardant substance. This research aimed to compare and determine the effects of using crushed and pulverized mussel shells as a fire-retardant coating to plywood. In this study, fire-retardancy of mussel shell coated plywood was evaluated. The shells were acquired in Kawit, Cavite, which were then cleaned, dried, and crushed into sizes passing through ASTM sieve no. 3 ½ (5 mm) but retained in sieve no. 4 (4.75mm) and pulverized into powder using a high-powered blender. The proponents prepared 7” x 7” x 3/4” plywood specimens and subdivided into 4 categories upon fire testing: no coat, wood glue coating, powdered shell coating and crushed shell coating. The specimens were then subjected Bunsen burner test. Temperatures were taken by using a digital multimeter and result were noted for further analysis. Upon analysis of gathered data, results showed that mussel shell coated plywood did not ignite in the standard 90 minute fire exposure test, proving that the application of crushed and pulverized mussel shell on the surface of plywood is an effective way to delay the propagation of fire throughout the material.

Abstract: Feng Shui is an Ancient practiced originated from China that deals with the balance and harmony with nature. In the Philippines, it is believed that Feng Shui gives luck and fortune to the ones who follows especially to the business owners to have a more fruitful life. Aside from the intangible effect given by Feng Shui, there are lack of knowledge if this practices are applicable to the country when it comes to construction. In recent years, there are studies conducted about Feng Shui on different fields but there are little or few done that were related to construction. These study aims to fill the gap on the knowledge of the Filipino especially the people involved in the construction scene. These recommendation may enhance the knowledge and market of civil engineers and architects because of the growing migration of Chinese in the country. Content analysis, inspection and interview were done as an attempt to provide an idea what Feng Shui says and what the codes and laws of the Philippine construction says. The recommendation of the laws and codes and the Feng Shui practices for residential building have been compared.

Abstract: The Delay Analysis Framework consolidates diverse techniques and methods to achieve a reliable, timely, economic, and automated schedule analysis and damage calculation. However, and because of the occurred delays for projects and growing complexness for recent construction projects in UAE, delays and cost overrides became common realities in the construction sector. That motivated the researchers and practitioners to use several approaches to calculate project delays and assign delay responsibility between the involved parties. This paper is prepared to demonstrate and evaluate different delay analysis frameworks that used to settle and resolve the occurred delays and support the delay analyst. In this regard, the study is comparing diverse frameworks to evaluate the capability of delay analysis frameworks through the measurement of many variables such as ability in assigning the responsibilities for the project delay, saving delay analysis cost, time, efforts and resources, dealing with concurrent delays and the flexible limit of application. The previous studies addressed several delay analysis framework that used by the Contractors in the construction projects in UAE and other countries. It’s useful to review those delay analysis frameworks from another view to gain insight into the capability of theses delay analysis framework through the measurement of many variables. Therefore, in this review, previously reported novel for the functions and advantages of the delay analysis frameworks are briefly discussed through evaluating seven measurements. The study found that the Integrated Forensic Delay Analysis Framework is more complex and it required several techniques to be applied. Also, the Developed Integrated Framework Analysis by Golnaraghi and the Integrated Forensic Delay Analysis Framework are required high level of detail and records comparing to the Conceptual Delay Analysis Framework by Abdelhadi. Moreover, the study recommended overcome the weakness of the previous delay analysis framework and develop the appropriate delay analysis framework to promote their use properly, in order to help reduce the frequent delay of claims settlement and provide high advantages.

Abstract: The project deals with construction of low cost toilets in Rural areas. It includes construction of bathrooms and water closet together. The water we used for washing clothes or bathing is recycled by using filter media and is further reused for flushing in toilets which will decrease water consumption. The components like wall, roof will be constructed using some different material like bamboo which will decrease the cost of construction. The total project will generate zero waste and will not require any energy from outside at the time of its actual use. All the components of this project are precast and will not require any energy from outside at the time of its actual use.
