Abstract: The construction industry is considered one of the key economic sectors in Egypt. Since the construction industry in Egypt is very dynamic, its performance is influenced by several different factors. Therefore, it is necessary to have a standard performance benchmark and indicators to assess projects’ success. This paper aims to identify the most critical Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and determine their Relative Importance Index (RII). The methodology to achieve this aim included a thorough literature review and a survey on projects performance among construction professionals in Egypt. The results show that the most critical KPIs are: Cost, Profitability, Time, Quality, Client satisfaction, Safety, Productivity, and Team satisfaction. These results can be used to assess projects success for the benefit of all project parties. Evaluating project performance based on a standard benchmark and indicators helps the construction industry professionals in managing, controlling, and improving projects and in anticipating future projects success.

Abstract: Delays in Construction Projects are one of the major challenges faced by all Projects Stakeholders. Therefore, it is important to review and analyze the published papers in the leading construction management journals. The objective of this paper is to compare the findings of the published papers based on the causes of delays from different geographical locations. The Severity Index (SI), Relative Important Index (RII), and Spearman rank correlation factor had been used across all these published papers to measure and rank the impact of each causal factor. The findings of this paper intended to provide summarized causes of delays in construction projects which already have been provided.

Abstract: Progressive collapse of a structure happens when one or more primary members are suddenly lost due to an unfortunate accident such as a gas explosion, bomb attack, fire, or overloaded. Building irregularity is one aspect that might aggravate the damage caused by gradual failure. The progressive failure of high rise stepped frames was investigated using 3-dimensional modelling and the finite element approach in this paper. The steel structure has 30 stories and rigid moment-resisting steel frames. Abaqus software is used to perform nonlinear dynamic analysis in accordance with GSA criteria. The results of Abaqus model are verified with an experimental data and good agreement is achieved. The structural behaviour of the building under sudden column loss was studied in detail using this model for several scenarios of column removal.

Abstract: Progressive failure can be described as step-by-step failure in building caused by the sudden loss of one or a few structural elements, which generates a chain reaction of failures for the adjacent structural elements, which leads to the entire structure failing. One of the factors that can amplify the damage caused by progressive failure is building irregularity. Three dimensional modeling, using the finite element method was developed to investigate the progressive failure of high rise irregular plan building consist of 30 storey with rigid moment resisting steel frames. Non-linear dynamic analysis is carried out following GSA guidelines using ABAQUS software. The modeling techniques were described in detail. The obtained numerical results are compared with experimental data and good agreement is attained. Using this model, the structural behavior of the building under the sudden columns loss for different scenarios of column removal were assessed in detail.

Abstract:  This research work aims to find out the critical success factors (CSFs) with implementing Public Private Partnership in affordable housing segment in India. Housing can be a way to define the living standard of a country. As India is a developing country and moving towards the urbanization with a very faster pace, it results the increased cost of land, development of slums, shortage of affordable housing for low or medium income groups. It becomes difficult for the low or medium income people to purchase a house in the urban areas. The government of India takes number of initiatives to tackle the problem of affordable housing.

The involvement of private sector has playing a major role in the success of Affordable housing projects. The provision of housing for all cannot be the only responsibility of public sector. The burden on government can be reduced by investment from private sector. Affordable housing in Partnership, plays major role for promoting, the affordable housing. The community and private sector are the prominent resources, which have to be incentivized and channelized in the process. There are also various important factors which affect the success of Public private partnership in affordable housing.

The Research Work is done by comparative ranking of the Critical Success factors using Analytical Hierarchy Process. The AHP tool provides both Individual and global comparative ranking of the critical success factors. The AHP tool also checks consistency of the survey by individual, the consistency ratio must not be greater than 10 % as per the tool. Each and every factor could be analyzed comparatively by the response of the respondents. The combination of these comparative ranking of all factors into one literature developed the final conclusion.

Abstract: Recent years have been shadowed by an increase in the adoption of recycled transportation and building materials, focusing on the adoption of damped waste materials. Numerous waste materials, including glass, plastic, and tire rubber, have been adopted in conjunction with standard resources as recycled aggregates or a binder improvement, depending on the application. Rubber from powdered tires may be added as a flexible aggregate in a concrete block, reducing the likelihood of brittle failure and increasing the concrete's capacity to absorb more significant amounts of energy before failure. Due to the high elastic modulus of rubber particles, the substitute of coarse aggregate for crumb rubber may significantly impact the strength characteristics of concrete, resulting in concentrated stress, strain, and bonds between the rubber particles and the cement. Rubber granules are an acceptable substitute for coarse aggregate in developing responsive concrete.

On the contrary, the use of finely graded rubber may result in a tensile behavior with substantial deformations before the complete disintegration of the concrete. It may have a more negligible impact on the loss of strength of the concrete. According to the experiment, despite the experimental concern on safety, it aims to assess rubberized concrete's performance and thus potential use in the concrete making to aid in environmental conservation.

Abstract: The use of the internet as a sales channel provides the consumer with information, facilitating the comparison of goods and increasing the already existing competitiveness between companies. The customer chooses by analyzing the products in terms of their attributes and according to the purchasing power. In this sense, an adequate pricing process is essential for any company. In the construction industry, this issue is even more relevant because of the heterogeneity of housing units. Furthermore, the high purchase price compared to other products, together with a variety of subjective attributes in the customer's perception, make the pricing process a complex undertaking. Thus, one question would be how to devise a distribution of prices in vertical housing, where the units in a building vary in size, number of rooms and external views. With the aim of defining a price differentiation model between units, this study was carried out based on the price formation process in a construction company in Santa Catarina state, Brazil. With the collected empirical data, a hedonic multivariate linear regression model was developed, with the aim of constructing an automated price differentiation system. The mathematical model showed good results for the numerical adjustment and in its ability to estimate price differentiation based on quantifiable attributes. Thus, it provides evidence of the applicability of the method in the correlation of the client's subjective attributes with the value of residential units in vertical condominiums.

Abstract: Design Risk-sharing is a crucial element in the construction project contract. The Design responsibility is associated with liability for the errors, omissions, and deficiencies. The duration of the design liability varies from a short term of the project duration, the defect notification period, and up to the decennial liability for ten years starting from the Taking over of the work.Various design issues arise in the contract execution phase, requiring a consistent contract document to manage the design issues. It is not uncommon that significant numbers of construction claims and disputed projects are due to design issues.

This paper discusses the design risk in construction projects from the perspective of the FIDIC suite of Contracts and civil law. The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the aspects and risks inherent with the design risk and the proper risk-sharing approach.

The author provides a Design Risk Management Matrix that guides the practitioners during the contract drafting process to consider the criticality of the design risk-sharing requirements.

Abstract: Overhead storage reservoirs such as elevated Intze tanks store water, petroleum products, and other liquids for effective distribution. In this study, four (10, 12,14, and 16) different heights of an elevated shaft in meters of Intze tank are assumed to carry a similar capacity of water. The diameter of the tank and height change simultaneously maintaining the same capacity in rising scenarios. The dynamic wind pressure analysis was carried out as per the American Institute stand ASCE-7, 2010 in which the impulse and convective pressure vary and are assumed hydrostatically on tank walls. The tank RCC analysis was also done in STAAD.Pro. V8i as per Indian standard IS:456 for reinforced concrete works. Variation in the base shear forces was observed for both tanks to increase from 289.94 kN to 362.98 kN for 10 m to 16 m shaft height.

Abstract: Time histories often vary too much to determine root cause of signal shift. Frequency information and extracted modal properties can correlate to structural health through quantitative change metrics. Herein, fifty-one modal-based damage indices are considered in a total of three directions. These metrics are combined via vector resultants and Genetic Algorithm to visualize final relative stiffness results by location of data capture using a color code. This work presents inspection and data mining on an obsolete three-span truss highway bridge from 1953 or 1941 (disputed). Tri-axial deck data was captured in a grid for all three spans, and the new damage detection methodology is applied to Spans 1 and 2 with Span 3 as control. Comparative analysis among the three spans quantified joint effects, and end damages due to both scour and spalling were identifiable. Furthermore, unbiased analyses provided similar results to those biased by visual inspection. A more pointed visual inspection is thus permitted post-analysis.

Abstract: For a long time, standard Egyptian penetration grade 60/70 bitumen which is actually equivalent to (PG64-22), used to provide a satisfactory ACP performance with current combination of (18t IWL ,1.35 MPa tire pressure). However, by the recent changing the bitumen fractional composition due to bitumen’s origin or/ and different refining techniques, many shear related distresses has been reported. Moreover, top-down cracks (TDCs) have been also observed as one of the most surface distresses in this perspective. Moreover, creep has been reported also in (ACP) especially, in southern latitude airports, where surface layer is exposed excessively to high temperature ambient. In this decade, the criterion of admissible octahedral shear stresses (OSSs) in the flexible surface layer, has been used successfully as a judicious design tool, for the accurate assessment of ACP performance. Consequently, the aim of this work was to study the state of art of using bitumen products through different bitumen types modified by recycled low density polyethylene (LDPE), and its impact on the OSS resistance of ACP surface layer.
