Abstract: This paper presents the results of analytical, numerical and experimental work of steel encased composite column using Alccofine concrete. In practice, most of the composite columns are relatively slender in nature. In composite column there is no requirement to provide additional reinforcing steel for composite concrete filled tubular sections and in composite column both the steel and concrete would resist the external loading by interacting together by bond and friction. In order to increase the strength, durability of the column and used to reduce the water content for the concrete mix, Alccofine a new type of a mineral admixture is added with the concrete mix. In this paper comparisons will take place between the conventional column with the steel encased composite column with Alccofine which results in higher strength and resist the sudden failure when axial load acts on the specimen. The sections are arrived by using the code IS 808:1989. The finite element software (Using ABAQUSE software) is used to determine the numerical analysis of the composite column under axial load and finally, the ultimate plastic resistance of the composite column is compared with analytical, numerical and experimental works.

Abstract: In the present era Nano silica is the next big thing in civil engineering for advancement of cement structure. Many researchers and scientists have been developed a number of techniques to improve the fresh, hardened and durability properties. Engineers are continuously pushing the limits to improve the performance of cement structures with the help of supplementary cementitious materials. The present research work focused on Nano silica. The mortar was made by using Nano silica with partial replacement of ordinary Portland cement at various percentages 0% to 15%. Fresh properties (like initial setting time and final setting time), hardened properties (like compressive strength, split tensile strength and flexural strength) and durability properties.

Abstract: The importance of incompressible viscous flow with moving particles cannot be overemphasized in the analysis and description of several physical phenomena in different fields, such as: Engineering, Oceanography, Meteorology and Geodynamics among others. Several numerical methods have been applied during the past decade to predict the behaviour and interactions between fluid and solid phases. However, these methods do not allow the detail visualization of the information of the problem under consideration. In this study an experiment of incompressible viscous flow phenomenon is carried out using high-speed photography. The experimental set-up includes: an incompressible viscous fluid (transparent shampoo solution), Glass container and spherical particles. The Stokes law is employed to calculate the settling velocities of the particles (spherical). This paper is divided into the following sections, Section 2 Combined high-speed photography methods, Section 3 Experimental procedures, Section 4 Results and discussion and Section 5 Conclusion.

Abstract: This paper presents the development of load transfer models and their variability values for use in probabilistic analysis and design of drilled shafts at service limit state. The development used intensive regression analysis on full scale load test data. The analyses were carried out for both side resistance and tip resistance. Five functional models, and two different types of regression analyses were performed, non-weighted least squares regression and weighted least squares regression. The hyperbolic function obtained from non-weighted least squares regression was found to fit the load transfer data best. This paper also presents the effects that the two load transfer normalization approaches have on the resistance factors: the normalization-to-maximum measured values approach and normalization-to-maximum predicted approach. The recommendation is when developing load transfer t-z curves, the normalization-to-maximum measured values approach is preferred to use.

Abstract: Plastic waste is serious threat to the environment and their disposal is a major problem in solid waste management. Different plastic products like plastic polyethylene bags, High density polyethylene, Low density polyethylene and Polyethylene terephthalate bottles are widely used and cause major impact to the environment. To overcome this issue many efforts were taken to recycle and reuse of plastics waste. On the other hand concrete is the most widely used construction material is facing problem due to unavailability of construction material of cement, sand and coarse aggregate. Various experimental investigations were made to check the effective use of plastic waste partially in concrete with respect to various properties of strength, workability, durability and ductility of concrete. This paper discusses about the various literature reviews in which the waste plastic material incorporated with the concrete and impingement on the various properties of concrete when partially replacing with waste plastic.

Abstract:  Post-destruction scenarios and lack of essential facilities in the immediate aftermath of disasters poses a significant and urgent threat. Post-disaster situations frequently see large amounts of displaced populations, with a desperate need for adequate housing. The challenge in providing housing after disasters is in the significant amount of time needed to repair or rebuild the shelters that were damaged, and the access to the labor and materials needed to build new structures. Temporary shelters need to be adaptable to different climates and cultures. This study aims to examine mortar-less solutions involving readily available agricultural waste that can be used as a key material in temporary housing construction. This study investigates the properties of insulative and cementitious material consisting of various agricultural materials, and provides a comparison with respect to their structural and thermal characteristics. A manufacturing process for the purposes of post-disaster home construction is also suggested.

Abstract: Structural steel-concrete composite beams used for building and bridge constructions are commonly subjected to simultaneous actions of positive and negative bending. However, there are relatively few numbers of experimental tests on this aspect; hence more behavioural researches on composite beam under negative bending are needed. This paper investigates the behaviour of steel-concrete composite beam under negative bending considering the load-deflection, shear connection and concrete-steel interface slip characteristics. Four composite beam specimens were tested under negative bending by carefully turning them upside down before a single point loading was applied at the mid span to simulate the mechanical behaviour of continuous composite beams at the internal supports, while another remaining two beam specimens were subjected to positive bending in order to compare some distinct behaviours between composite beams subjected to negative and positive bending. Experimental results showed that the arrangement of shear connectors influence strength and deformation characteristics of composite beams.  The reduction of the stiffness of the shear connectors in the cracked concrete influences the composite beam stiffness and the overall negative plastic moment capacity. However, it was noted that for a composite beam subjected to positive bending the positive plastic moment capacity is effectively utilised. Finite elements models created using SAP 2000 software were used to validate the experimental results trends and vice versa.

Abstract: Steel-Concrete composite beams have been used for a considerable time in bridge and building construction. Shear connector is important for steel concrete composite structures. It is used as a shear resistance in the steel concrete interface. This study presents an investigation on static behavior of multi-stud shear connectors in composite beams, suitable for transferring shear force in composite structures by analytical way. The composite section have been modeled in ANSYS with the help of finite element modeling and analyzed, the results have been documented for comparison. Once the composite sections have been casted, it is made to undergo Standard Push out tests. The test is been carried out to analyze various parameters like load-slip behavior, shear resistance, bearing capacity, ductility and also the failure modes of multi-stud shear connectors used will be detailed. The effective and economical ways of using the stud shear connectors in Steel-Concrete composite sections will be discussed. Finally the result shows that the ultimate strength of multi-stud is about 18% larger than single stud. The slip of single stud specimen is about 25% larger than multi-stud specimens. These results may be useful in the design of steel-concrete composite bridges. Furthermore the comparisons of the results of various arrangements of multi-stud shear connectors used will be documented.

Abstract: Pore pressure controls the overall behavior of soils. Pore pressures and soil structure combines to produce a response which is an interaction of the two. Both static and dynamic load transfer is accomplished through a soil particle structure which is primarily a function of any unexpelled pore water pressures.

Positive pore pressure responses reduce the normal effective stress (strength) of soils and generally have a destabilizing effect on any geotechnical structure. On the other hand contractive soil responds to loading with a negative pore pressure.

The resulted outcome of such pore pressure responses includes liquefaction which requires careful assessment in geotechnical engineering and construction.

Abstract: This project examines the behavior of the infilled frame with the conventional cement mortar interface between the frame and in the infilling wall. The infills will increase the stiffness of the structure which is generally good but during the time of the earthquake it attracts baser shear which is again more vulnerable. So in this project an attempt is made to know the behavior of the infilled frame with the conventional cement mortar interface and study it during the acting of the lateral loads by using the standard software and comparing the analysis with the experimental study. The parametric study is done analytically and its consequences in the analysis results of the frame are compared with the experimental study.
