Abstract: Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in carbonated drinks solutions of Coca-Cola, sprite and Fanta using plant extract of Chrysohllym albidium (CA) was investigated at ambient (25°C), fridge (5°C) and freezer (-3°C) temperatures by gravimetric techniques. There was a characteristic observation of high inhibition efficiencies of 93.8% at 5°C in Fanta, 90.0% in Sprite at -3°C and 92.7% in Coke at -3°C. It was deduced that weight loss reduced as the temperature decreased. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) micrographs revealed that CA actually inhibited corrosion of mild steel when the surface morphology of the inhibited and uninhibited metal coupon were compared. The result shows that these inhibitors are effective as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in these carbonated drinks. Scanning electron microscopy result shows that the surfaces of the metals were quite protected in the presence of these inhibitors, with evidence of adsorbent species on its surface.

Abstract: This article focuses on vision based autonomous landing of a fixed wing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). Computer vision algorithms are used as a feedback sensor in control loops. Design of flight management system (FMS) algorithms and control structure of UAV is described. FMS provides to apply specific missions like keeping trajectory points between two coordinates with keeping specific altitude and speed conditions. To be able to manage this condition, waypoints include latitude, longitude, heading, altitude and speed specifications. Therefore, to be able to process these waypoints; roll, pitch, altitude, heading and speed controller are designed. To be able to generate, load waypoints and activate designed algorithms to UAV, a ground control station (GCS) interface is designed.  On the vision algorithms side, position of aircraft is detected with respect to known runway by using image processing algorithms supported by OpenCv library. Position information obtained from image processing is used by FMS. System has been successfully tested in flight simulation environment under several different wind and turbulence condition with different initial orientation of the UAV.

Abstract: The primary factor restricts of the new control systems developments for air vehicles and the implementation of new sensors is being physically unable to quick and cost-effective testing. Flight testing is costly and requires a long preparation process. The aim of this article is improve the simulator infrastructure which easily implementable to the AscTec Hummingbird Quadrotor that located in the University’s lab and have interaction with the 3D physical environment. Firstly, quadrotor’s mathematical model has been developed and this model is implemented on the Matlab/Simulink environment. Afterwards, a bacis PID controller is developed. The quadrotor’s physical model, the electric motor, the rotor and the IMU model have been modelled on Virtual Robotics Experimentation Platform (V-REP). Matlab / Simulink controller is synchronized with the V-REP and is used for the quadrotor’s physical environment tests. The verification of the simulation is planning made by real experimental flight data of AscTec Hummingbird.

Abstract:  The construction industry in Nigeria is dominated by the use of cement. The decades of dominance has created an attachment to sand-cement walls with a negative impact on alternative wall materials. The impact on earth is particularly fierce as it is further regarded as cheap, weak and obsolete. This research is aimed at the assessment of the performance of compressed earth wall in comparison with the common sand-cement block wall.  Basic engineering tests were conducted on the common mixes of specimens of sand-cement block, mortar and plaster. The tests which were directed towards issues of public concern include the compressive strength, water absorption, durability/surface erosion tests. The results of 8 percent cement stabilisation of Aviele laterite soil were compressive strength of 10.3N/mm2 and coefficient of water absorption of 9 [kg/(N2 x min)]; while Sand-Cement block of ratio 1:4:2 gave a strength of 8.2N/mm2 and coefficient of water absorption of 5.3 [kg/(N2 x min)]. A surface abrasion test of 10 per cent cement stabilisation of earth, gave an impressive performance higher than sand-cement block. This investigation is a part of an on-going research in the development of Compressed Earth Block.

Abstract: Corrosion inhibition effect of Anthocleista djalonensis on mild steel was studied using gravimetric method for 1.0 M of HCl at different temperatures – ambient and 333K. The mild steel were immersed in the uninhibited corrosive media and those containing 0.1 g/l, 0.2 g/l, 0.3 g/l, 0.4 g/l, 0.5 g/l and 0.6 g/l of the extract for both the ambient temperature and 333K. The inhibition efficiency of the extract was determined, after weight losses were calculated and optimum value was gotten as 97.23% for ambient and 84.62% for 333K. The adsorption studies revealed Langmuir isotherm as the best model for the isotherm (r2=0.9998 for ambient temperature and r2=0.9966 for 333K) on the mild steel surface. This shows that Anthoclesista djalonensis is a good green inhibitor, obeying the strict environmental legislations for the “green” alternative of mitigating corrosion.

Abstract: Stepping into a terrain of old, unpopular or informal construction methods, like earth construction, in the 20th century may seem unguided and unregulated. Although there was no direct reference to unbaked earth construction, the performance based structure of the Eurocodes obviously accommodated informal construction methods. The paper is a study and analysis of the codes and identification of relevant areas of application of the codes in relation to the enhanced compressed earth masonry, which is a subject of an on-going research. Codes provide regulatory guide and standards as a basis for the establishment of tasks and the parameters for assessing any achievement.

Abstract: The voice recognition is the method that calculates an optimal match between two given sequences with certain restrictions is called Dynamic time wrapping. The sequences are "warped" non-linearly in the time dimension to determine a measure of their similarity independent of certain non-linear variations in the time dimension. This sequence alignment method is often used in time series classification. Although DTW measures a distance-like quantity between two given sequences, it doesn't guarantee the triangle inequality to hold. The voice recognition is the ability of a machine to recognize the spoken words and convert them to any desired form. In the current scenario when we are moving towards the automated world, the applications of real-time voice recognition are increasing day by day. The voice recognition system is a good choice to give a voice command for any device which requires user inputs to operate. Lifts, television, gaming-stations, smart-phones and medical instruments are the few of the many such examples. The real time voice recognition system first requires some training and then is ready to recognize the real time voice data input. For a new incoming voice command, the system tries to match its features from the existing data set. The command is then classified into the ‘best-matched’ command from the existing data set. The technological advancement in the field of pattern recognition had made the voice recognition more reliable and user friendly.

Abstract: Planning is the most vital part of project management. It describes the resources that we need to complete the project successfully. Software cost estimation is a part of planning. It describes the estimated cost and time required to complete the project. The input in software cost estimation is the size of the code and cost drivers. The output is the Effort in terms person per month. Our proposed model is for tuning parameters of COCOMO model software cost estimation using Multi Objective (MO) Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). We will be using clustering methods to divide the data items into number of clusters and PSO be used then for parameter tuning of each cluster. The clusters and the tuned parameters will be trained on Neural Network by back propagation algorithm. The results will be compared for the improvement of the previous work.

Abstract: Approximately 50 million people worldwide, that is 1% of the world’s population, have epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that affects people of all ages, causing recurring seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. The detection of epilepsy is possible by analyzing EEG signals. Hence this paper presents different epilepsy and seizure detection methods by analyzing EEG signals. As the paraclinical evidence from the EEG can allow earlier diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract: The developed Data Acquisition and Control System acquire data from analog channels and display it on the Touch Screen Display for monitoring.  The system also monitors the data received on different digital pins and indicates the status of these pins by turning the corresponding indicators present on the Touch Screen, RED or GREEN. For providing the graphical interface, the TFT is programmed to display different screens each performing a specific function. The reason for developing different screens is, to keep the data acquired from different analog and digital pins as well as the controlling part of the system separate from each other, so that no two data overlap each other.
