Abstract: Organ transplantation is considered now a days as one of the most evolving and important medical fields and it is referred to many times as the last saving life option of treatment. An organ transplant may save a person’s life, or it may significantly improve their health and quality of life. Because of the highly increased demand of organ transplantations and the real deficiency in organs and lack of donors we have chosen this important topic for our research" Measuring the Knowledge and Attitudes towards Organ Donation among the students at Al- Imam university" aiming to identify the proportion of potential organ donors among Al-Imam university students and to explore the motives and obstacles associated with organ donation in this group and finally to report our results hoping to contribute in improving and increasing the number of organ donation in KSA. The data collection tool was self-administered questioner which was focused to assess the (KAP) knowledge, attitudes and practice toward organ donation in a sample of 141 students at Al-Imam University. We found that (92,3%) of  the study sample already have heard about Organ donation and only (11.3%) know about donation cards. Only (44%) of respondents know the (Islamic hokm) of donation. (73%) believe that the number of donated organs is still below the increased demand. The questioner shows that (31.2%) would think of organ donation and mostly for religious and humanitarian causes but when asked if welling and ready now to donate, the percentage drops to (11.4%). Only 1 respondent has a donation card and NOBODY (0%) has already donated. In conclusion, We found that the main obstacles preventing the study group from donation include the lack of accurate and correct information, misconception of the Islamic perspective of donation and believing of organ donation as a risky and harmful procedure. On the other hand, the most observed motives of donation were religious and humanitarian. These findings would help all the interested parties in improving organ donation in Saudi Arabia to meet the ambitions.

Abstract: Background: HbA1c is considered an indicator of average blood glucose concentrations during the preceding 2 to 3 months and, thus, a long-term marker of glucose homeostasis. Abnormalities may be a result of changes in insulin secretion and insulin-stimulated uptake of glucose in muscle and fat tissue.

Objective: Vitamin D deficiency is associated with a greater risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Studies looking at the effect of vitamin D replacement on glycaemic control in type 2 diabetics are few and conflicting. So our objective come which was to test whether vitamin D level has any effect on HbA1c level concerning diabetes, and whether there are any changes in this correlation with age different. 

Methodology: Participants were 299 diabetic patients divided to three groups according to their age 1) children which form almost 70% of participants; 2) adolescents which were 30% 3) adults which were only 1% of participants in this study. The data were recruited through outpatient departments of “King Abdul Aziz University Hospital in Jeddah Saudi Arabia. Fasting venous blood samples were collected by phlebotomy to perform HbA1c analyses by high-pressure liquid chromatography. Serum (s-25(OH) D) was measured using high-pressure liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry.

Results: the most effected among this population with vitamin D deficiency is the diabetic children 70% of children population showed good glycemic control. And 76% of adolescents with vitamin D deficiency also were in a good controlled (HbA1c ≤ 7 %) category.

Conclusion: this study revealed that vitamin D deficiency was higher in diabetic children compared to healthy controls. It will be of interest for future studies to investigate whether vitamin D supplementation will improve glycemic control and inflammation status in vitamin D deficient diabetic children.

Abstract: Background: Most women reported in many studies the improvements in important areas of life, and quality of life in terms of "social functioning" and "mental health" increased significantly after the reconstruction. The latissimus dorsi flap and TRAM flap scored significantly higher as compared with the lateral thoracodorsal flap for similarity with the contralateral breast and reduced problems in social situations.

Objective: To determine the safety and efficacy of autologous fat grafting and other procedures for post mastectomy, and evaluate other plastic surgical procedures in breast reconstruction after mastectomy, also to introduce the most common techniques in breast reconstruction surgeries following mastectomy.

Methods: we conducted our literature search for similar previous studies mainly in Medline (PubMed), the studies were included which are concerning the breast reconstruction especially after mastectomy.

Results: The latissimus dorsi flap and TRAM flap scored significantly higher as compared with the lateral thoracodorsal flap for similarity with the contralateral breast and diminished issues in social circumstances. No contrasts in the middle of illuminated and nonirradiated patients were found. All techniques were considered to create great corrective results and changes in patient-characterized issue zones of life and personal satisfaction. No negative impacts were recorded. Thus, irrespective of method, breast reconstruction is a valuable tool for the mastectomized woman to cope with problems in everyday life.

Conclusion: Breast reconstruction is an option for patients following a unilateral or bilateral mastectomy, or after breast conservation therapy that has had a less than ideal cosmetic result. Breast reconstruction provides psychological, social, emotional, and functional improvements, including improved psychological health, self-esteem, sexuality, and body image. Patients who choose breast reconstruction are presented with complex decisions, including the type and timing of reconstruction.

Abstract: Early acute appendicitis is a standout among the most widely recognized abdominal pain crises around the world. The reason behind appendicitis stays ineffectively comprehended, with few advances in the previous couple of decades. The incidence of acute appendicitis very high in between the population of United States including both children and adults, which lead to increase the cost for more than 3 billion dollars per year. For very long time, acute appendicitis has been treated by surgery, i.e., appendectomy, with benefit of very low rate mortality; however surgical intervention has its disadvantages such pain, scar, adherence and hernia development, and venous thrombosis disease. From this aspect comes the important of this study as the aim of it to identify the benefits and evaluate the treatment of early acute appendicitis with antibiotics, and that will be done through a systemic review of randomized previous studies that were concerned with the antibiotics treatments of appendicitis.

Conclusion: Antibiotics are both effective and safe as primary treatment for patients with uncomplicated acute appendicitis. Initial antibiotic treatment merits consideration as a primary treatment option for early uncomplicated appendicitis.

Abstract:  In present times sugar consumption is one of the most common factors for the development of Dental caries which significantly increases with the increased consumption of sugar intake.

Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze the role of sweet preference in dental caries among 12years, 15years and 18years age group children.

Material and methods: The survey was conducted in the two areas of Udaipur city, rural and urban. A total of 252 examinees from rural and urban settlements, were assessed for sweet preference using a free choice method. W.H.O standards and criteria were used for dental caries detection.

Results: Results revealed that the urbanised examinee preferred higher sugar concentration and demonstrated higher DMFT scores than their rural counterparts (p=0.00). These differences between the two populations were statistically significant. Data were analysed for correlation between caries and sweet preference. Urban group children of this study had the habit of snacking in between meals and  were found to be greater which is highly significant with the DMFT value (p=0.000)

Conclusion: Dental Caries is an irreversible phenomenon and in a country like India there is an increasing need for dental practitioners to combat high prevalence of dental caries among school children.

Abstract:  Background and Objectives: Home health care (HHC) is a wide range of health care services that can be given in home. HHC is usually less expensive, more convenient than hospital care and just as effective. The objective of this work is to analyze the awareness, willingness and clinical factors related with the implementations HHC for elderly patients at King Saud University Medical City (KSUMC).

Methods: The study was conducted at KSUMC during the period of October 2014 till December 2014. The target population was elderly patients of KSUMC, both male and female, who are over 60 and attending outpatient clinics or admitted in inpatient departments. By a convenient sampling technique, 420 participants were selected.  The data was collected by pre-designed interviewing questionnaire which consisted of three sections. After ethical approval and informed consent, their responses about the need for home health care services were analyzed.

Results: Awareness of HHC was calculated in this study and showed that only 156 patients out of 420 patients (37.1%) heard about these services. The study showed that patients above 60 years old in KSUMC (93.1%) need at least one of the HHC services. The most frequently needed services were follow up of chronic diseases, by more than half of patients (52.6%) followed by the need of health education by 50.7% then dietary education and guidance by more than one third of the patients (38.1%). The commonest health problems among elderly patients in the present study were diabetes mellitus (DM) ; 43.3% followed by stroke and heart diseases; 32.1% then respiratory conditions in 16.4%.

Conclusions: The results of the study show poor knowledge of elderly patients about HHC services. They also show that the majority of the patients are in need of HHC services, and in case of need of the services; the majority seek care from outpatient clinics or emergency department in KSUMC which could over-burden these services in KSUMC.

Abstract: A chronic kidney disease (CKD) involves progressive, irreversible loss of the kidney function. It is defined as either the presence of kidney damaged or glomerular filtration rate (GFR) less than 60ml/minute for 3 month or longer. Our study aims that to improve self care and quality of life of haemodialysis patients through patient counselling in terms of diet, medications, life style modifications and regarding the balanced nitrogen diet. It also concentrates in terms of the pharmaceutical care plan for a better clinical outcome. It is a prospective interventional study which was conducted for 6months in a tertiary care hospital. Dietary and life style modifications were accepted by minimum of people. Physicians also recommended the suggestions which are provided by pharmaceutical care. The experience from this study showed that clinical pharmacists can directly help physicians in the clinic or medication selection and detection of adverse reactions. Pharmacist participation in dialysis care teams showed a positive influence on physician prescriptions and patient treatment outcomes.

Abstract: Neonatal diabetes mellitus (NDM) is a rare form of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Presents within the first month of life with hyperglycaemia, severe dehydration; glycosuria and absent ketonuria; several causes have been implicated with variable outcome. The need to identify hyperglycaemic neonates early and initiate therapy so as to prevent complications/death is highlighted and can still be achieved in a resource limited settings.

Abstract: The aim of this study was to see the Thyroid stimulating hormone levels in the  tribals after yogic practices and Electromagnetic Therapy. For that, Thirty Tribals in both sex were selected from the foot hills of the Reserved Forest area of Thiruthani, and their age ranged from 35 to 45 years. Thirty subjects were randomly selected and they were divided into three equal groups of 10 each, as yogic practices treatment group-1, combined yoga with Electro Magnetic Therapy treatment group-2, and control group-3. Yogic practices such as proper diet, exercise, proper breathing and proper relaxation were taught to the Experimental group 1 for 12 weeks. Yogic practices with Electro Magnetic therapy was given to Experimental group-2 and no training was given to the control group. Baseline (pre-test) readings were taken before training, and post-test readings were taken after training (12 weeks). Paired “t” test was applied for examining the hypothesis. There were significant improve ments in balancing Thyroid hormone level among the tribal through yogic practices, also yogic practices with Electro Magnetic therapy. Thus yogic practices and Electro-Magnetic therapy have beneficial Effect on Hypothyrodism among the tribals.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate the combined effect of yogic practices with EMT on BMI among the obese tribals. For that, 30 obese tribal were selected from the tribals who are living in the urban area nearby Thiruvallur District close to Arumbakkam and Navalur Reserve forest areas, with the mean age 39 ± 9.4 years old, height 162 ± 7 cm and weight 85 ± 17.3 kg. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups. Yogic practices with Electromagnetic therapy (n=15), were given training for 12 weeks (3 days/w morning 6.00 to 7.00 AM, Asanas 30 minutes, pranayamas 15 minutes, yoga nidra 15 mts, E.M.T Evening 6.00 to 7.00 PM same days. The second (n=15) group was treated as control group. It did not participate in any of the above training. yogic practices such as proper food (sathvic food) proper exercise (asanas), proper breathing (pranayama) and  proper relaxation (yoga muidhra) were taught before training to the treatment group only. BMI level of Tribal at the base line and after training were recorded. Mean, mean difference, standard deviations and paired ‘t’ test were applied for examining the hypothesis. The result of statistical analysis showed that there is significant difference on BMI found after training and no improvement in control group.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate and assess therapeutic effects of yogic practices and cellular Gem therapy on physiological parameters of Hypertension blood pressure and pulse Rate. 60 subjects were randomly selected from 92 people living in an old age home in Chennai, aged 60 and above (MASS Charitable Trust –Aged and children service centre Vivekananda Nagar Chennai 600118). The duration of the study was 12 weeks. The pulse Rate, Systolic, Diastolic parameters were recorded at the start of the study, and randomly selected  20 for Yogic practice,  20  for Cellular Gem therapy and 20 for control group.

Yogic practice was given for 5 days in a week; Cellular Gem Therapy was given once a week   for 12 weeks. Cellular Gem therapy was given with Lax IV Medical equipment. Key feature of this Gem therapy is, as it works on Human body cell at di-electric resonance property, and shifts the Human body’s Assemblage point. Location of the Assemblage point plays vital on human health, dislocation of Assemblage point is the symptom of the disease in our body. Cellular Gem therapy will shift location of the Assemblage point location by regulating the channels of Bio-plasmic in our body.

There were significant control over Hypertension,Systolic and Diastolic and good control over Pulse rate when compared to control group with the Yogic Practice group and Cellular Gem therapy group.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to investigate and assess the therapeutic effects of yogic practices and cellular Gem therapy on psychological parameters of Insomnia (Groningen sleep Quality scale[GSQS]).  40subjects were selected from old age home in Chennai aged 60 and above (MASS Charitable Trust –Aged and children service center Vivekananda Nagar Chennai 600118). The duration of the study was 12 weeks, 20 for Yogic practice combined with Cellular Gem therapy and 20 for control group

There were significant improvement in Sleep Quality of older people when compared to control group with the Yogic Practice combined with Cellular Gem therapy group.

Abstract: Background: Health and human rights are closely interrelated and has included in the WHO and UN constitution. India being a member of UN and WHO has incorporated the health and human rights in its constitution. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) being a long-term disease with far-reaching implications like social, financial and human rights related effects on patient, family, society and country. There is no previous data or studies on human rights in patients of CKD in India.

Methods: Fifty patients of CKD stage 5, undergoing maintenance hemodialysis and 50 who underwent renal transplantation were studied. A questionnaire was given to each of the patient and the answers were recorded as per protocol and data analyzed by SPSS 15 for windows.

Observations: All patients who underwent renal transplantation were aged <40 years and majority (96 %) of those on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) were >40 years. Fifty-six percent of patients were aware of the term human rights and there was no difference in awareness based on mode of therapy. Majority (87%) were not knowing about human rights violations and whom to approach whenever there is any violation. Only 26% of patients were employed; local committees supported most of those who underwent transplantation whereas majority of those on MHD were spending with family support and savings. Majority of those who underwent transplantation were satisfied with family and society support and were looking for opportunities for work.

Conclusions: There is need to increase the awareness regarding human rights and its violations. There is also need to launch a national program to support the patients of CKD for the treatment and rehabilitation to increase the productivity.

Abstract: The purpose of this investigation is to find out the relationship among elastic power and long jump performance. To achieve the purpose of the study, 20 male physical education students’ age ranging from 18 to 21 were purposively selected to act as subjects.  Measurement for elastic power was done by depth jump test from dropping height of 45cm. Running long jump was measured by using running long jump performance. The Pearson’s Product moment correlation was used in order to find out the relationship between selected variables. The level of significance was set at 0.05. Results showed statistically significant (p<0.05) coefficient of correlation (r=0.67) among selected variables. The positive value of Coefficient of correlation indicates that increase in depth jump performance is followed by increase in running Long jump performance. These findings suggest that elastic power testing and training should be utilized for enhancing long jump performance.

Abstract: Platelets indices have been recently reported as clinically useful biomarkers. In most clinical laboratories in Sudan; platelet indices are not reported/or evaluated, this could be of lack of knowledge about their availability, importance, and local laboratory reference values. The study aimed to determine the Sudanese reference value for platelet count and indices, to investigate whether a significant age/gender difference are exists. A total of 300 apparently healthy Sudanese; 150 males and 150 females, their ages range between 10 and 60 years; categorized in 5 groups. A full blood count was performed using Sysmex KX-21 blood analyzer and the platelet count and indices were recorded. The following reference values were obtained for platelet count – males 130-357x103 /µl , females 146-378 x103/µl; mean platelets volume (MPV) – males 8.4-11.4 fl, females 8.0-11.6 fl; platelets distribution width (PDW) – males 8.7-15.7 fl, females 7.8-16.2 fl; platelets -large cell ratio (P-LCR) – males 12.7-36.1%, females 10.9-38.8%; plateletcrit (PCT)–males 0.14-0.24%, females 0.13-0.33%. A significant difference between males/females and ages below/over 35 years were obtained for platelet count (p:  0.0001, 0.0001)   and PCT (p: < 0.0001, 0.0006); respectively, while other indices did not show significant differences. This study illustrated the importance of determining local reference values, because populations, reagents and instruments may differ from published reference values. These reference values pave the way for the clinicians to apply these indices in the investigations of disease states.
