Abstract: In the technology century, almost everyone has to use computers .The computer itself might be contaminated by microbes that can be transmitted and affect the users. Identification of these microorganisms and then eliminate them is necessary to ensure safe use of computers.

Objective: To determine the degree of microbial contamination on the laptops’ keyboards,To determine the efficacy of different  home  disinfectants.

Materials & Methods: 30 specimens (laptops) were collected from 15 male and 15 female students in Collage of Medicine at King Faisal University at AlAhsa. Laptops’ keyboards were swabbed by sterile technique, and were cultured on blood agar, nutrient agar, mannitol salt agar using the spread plate technique to detect bacterial count (colony forming unit CFU). The specimens were incubated at 37 o C   for 48 hours. 3 different home disinfectant:

1- drinking water 2- 5%chlorine (the Clorox company) with water 3- 5% detol with water were prepared. Each laptop were divided into 3 regions in each region only one disinfectant were applied. After drying, we swabbed the 3 regions and the swabs materials were cultured again.

Results:  Bacteria was detected in a significant number on laptops. We detected in female laptops a higher CFU than male laptops. All disinfectants were highly effective in removing or inactivating bacteria. Drinking water was as effective at removing the pathogens as others. None of the disinfectants has any visible effects on the appearance of the letters on laptops’ keyboards.

Conclusion: The use of laptops’ keyboard s may pose the risk of microbial contamination to users. Simple home based disinfectant can eliminate the contaminated pathogen, and their use is highly recommended.

Abstract: Majority of the morbidity and mortality due to Influenza A H1N1(swine flu ) are attributable to pneumonia and the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS ).Althogh it is rare in adults, A common cause of severe influenza pathogenesis is superinfection with bacterial pathogens, namely, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Here we report a rare case of to Influenza A H1N1 superinfected with Multi-Drug-Resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Abstract: ERCP stands for endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. It is an endoscopic procedure where a bendable, lighted tube endoscope about the thickness of an index finger is placed through the mouth and into your stomach and the first part of the small intestine. The most common reasons to do ERCP include abdominal pain, weight loss, jaundice, or ultrasound or CT scan that shows stones or a mass in these organs. ERCP is a procedure that is used to diagnose diseases of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas, and liver. ERCP can be used as both a screening as well as the diagnostic procedure. It can screen the pathologies related to the biliary and pancreatic ducts and can be used in pathologies associated with the same like CBD and pancreatic duct stones, structures and polyps. Although it is a highly advanced procedure with multiple advantages at the same time ERCP has its own risks. This endoscopic procedure can lead to a number of complications and acute pancreatitis is one of them. ERCP is associated with a 5%-10% risk of pancreatitis. There are several potential underlying mechanisms of pancreatic injury during ERCP, including mechanical, thermal, chemical, hydrostatic, enzymatic, and microbiologic insults. Appropriate hydration, close monitoring and use of pharmacoprevention can help decrease the incidence of this complication. Once the patient has developed acute pancreatitis, adequate hydration is very important. Pain control, monitoring infection and attention to nutrition are other important aspects to cover for all patients with acute pancreatitis.

Abstract: Brucellosis is a zoonosis which gram-negative coccobacilli that can be transmitted to a human, and it’s least frequently involving monoarthritis or oligoarthritis of the lower extremity. Herein we present 40-year-old, medically free, morbid obese male who had a history of DVT, with right knee septic arthritis caused by Brucella melitensis, with none classical symptoms in which he underwent proper surgical and medical management.

Abstract: Hypertension is a common problem throughout the world and the number of complications arising from uncontrolled hypertension is a matter of concern for physicians globally. Around 85 million people in the United States have high blood pressure. Blood pressure is the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the blood vessels. The recent guidelines changed the cut off of hypertension from 140/90 to 130/80. Lifestyle factors are the best way to address high blood pressure. Hypertensive emergencies encompass a spectrum of clinical presentations in which uncontrolled blood pressures (BPs) lead to progressive or impending end-organ dysfunction. There are two types of hypertension- primary or essential hypertension and secondary hypertension. Some other types are- Malignant hypertension, Pseudohypertension, Pulmonary hypertension, Isolated systolic hypertension and, White coat hypertension. Various risk factors include- Age, Sex, Family history, Personal history, etc. The hypertensive emergency can lead to a lot of complications like Stroke, Heart failure, Dementia, and End organ damage. The evaluation of a hypertensive crisis initially includes a detailed medical history and physical examination. Treatment goals for hypertensive crises depend on classification (e.g., emergency vs. urgency) and presenting condition.

Abstract: The basic science technology of Dynamic Infusion Technology^TM is demonstrated and the efficacy of a new transdermal delivery technology is evaluated in-vivo and in-vitro. Dynamic Infusion Technology has the ability to transport topically applied constituents to the intact epidermis without predicate damage to the stratum corneum. The product line includes a series of easily applied lotions and creams. The proprietary delivery system was developed from the company’s previous research and product development in liposome and vesicle delivery of active ingredients. The transit of a large molecule, hyaluronic acid (HA), as well as additional active molecules such as argireline, beta glucan, tocopheryl acetate, ascorbyl palmitate, and niacinimide into the skin was demonstrated without the use of a treatment modality. The proprietary formulation of vesicles within the host serums, lotions, and creams allow the transit of HA into the skin, which helps with collagen remodeling and skin plumping.

Abstract: A 9 years old boy presented with atypical and new presentation of Kikuchi disease with extensive generalized lymphadenopathy with kidney involvement in radiological studies. The disease is established by the combination of clinical presentation, laboratory testing, radiological findings and histo-pathological confirmation. As many reports, which gave different trails of management, we chose not to use any medications such as antibiotics and steroids as there was no causative organism identified and there was no need for urgent intervention. Spontaneous resolution within weeks to months is the nature of Kukuchi disease.

Abstract: One of the unusual etiology of acute abdomen is the Omental Infarction  which could has a similar presentations of acute abdomen, such as acute pancreatitis, cholecystitis, diverticulitis, appendicitis, ileitis or other conditions. In our hospital, a 19-years old male down syndrome patient was received complaining of right sided abdominal pain since 3 days upon presentation. Patient was assessed clinically, laboratory and radiology and diagnosed as Idiopathic Omental Infarction. Because the absence of the complications of Omental Infarction  and other surgical indications of emergency surgical intervention, the patient was treated conservatively in form of good hydration, pain medications, IV antibiotics and serial clinical assessments for five consecutive days. The patient exhibited completely improvement of his condition without complications.

Abstract: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a functional, chronic, often disabling, the disorder characterized by abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits. It is more common in females. The pathophysiology of irritable bowel syndrome is incompletely understood. The most common symptoms of IBS include abdominal pain, change in the bowel habits, diarrhea in the ability to empty bowels, indigestion, nausea, passing excessive amounts of gas, urgent need to defecate, abdominal discomfort or cramps. There is no definitive diagnosis of IBS. Treatment of IBS-the treatment of IBS mainly focuses on the relief of symptoms. Mild to moderate symptoms can often be managed by making lifestyle and diet three changes. The FODMAPs diet has been shown to be an efficacious therapy for the reduction of functional gastrointestinal symptoms. Foods that are high in FODMAPs includes knowing that anything made with wheat, barley or rye, apples, artificial sweeteners, beans, cashews, cauliflower, dried fruit, Garlic and onions, honey, ice cream, mushrooms, pistachios, watermelon, and high fructose corn syrup. Fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols (FODMAPs) are short-chain carbohydrates poorly absorbed by humans due to their small size, high osmotic activity, and the speed with which they are fermented by the microbiota. FODMAPs diet not only showed significant improvement in the symptoms of IBS patient but also has shown some significant improvement in patients with celiac disease compared to normal diet.

Abstract: Atrial fibrillation is a common ye life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia which not only has its own risks but is also associated with other arrhythmias and disorders. Panic disorder, on the other hand, is one of the underdiagnosed disorders and has symptoms mimicking a number of other disorders making this disorder a tough one to diagnose. Several previous studies have shown similarity in the clinical presentation of the two disorders and also an association of the co-existence of the two. We conducted this review to understand and conclude the association between atrial fibrillation and panic disorder. Review of previous studies and literature review showed an increased stimulation of the sympathetic pathway and release of a number of catecholamine’s leading to symptoms of both panic attacks and atrial fibrillation. Inflammatory biomarkers level were also associated with both the disorders. Summarising the common symptoms and mechanism of pathogenesis of the two disorders it can be assumed that there might be an association between the two disorders, although further studies are required to conclude the signing of the association.

Abstract: HIV, the disease, whose mode of transmission is known and is largely preventable, but due to lack of knowledge and practices about HIV/AIDS in general population causes its rapid spread. The Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) epidemic is the greatest challenge to human kind in the 21st century. AIDS was first recognized in 1981 and is caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) which was isolated in USA by the end of 1983.So, in this study we plan to assess and compare the knowledge, attitude and practices about HIV among those people who live in state house IDP’s, Red Sea, Hargeisa city, Somaliland.

Objective of the study is to assess KAP towards HIV/AIDS among people who live in state house IDPs at red sea, Jig Jiga Yar, Hargeisa, Somaliland.

Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study design was conducted from March 26- October to assess knowledge, attitude and practice towards HIV/AIDS transmission, prevention and control. A date was collected 138 respondents who live in State House IDP’s by using Questionnaire. This method was used because to enable the researcher together the necessary data within limited time available to complete the project.

Results: Majority of the respondents 110 (79.7%) knew that HIV/AIDs is transmitted through sexual intercourse. The study showed that 53(38.4%) said that HIV/AIDs can be prevented and controlled by having one partner, 34(24.6%) increasing community awareness, 22(15.9%) providing health education can contribute HIV/AIDs prevention and control while 12(8.7%) said it can be prevented and controlled through abstinence from sex and 2(1.4%) said by using condom. Regarding respondents attitude 54(39.1%) of them said that HIV/AIDs infected person would not be discriminated while in terms of their practice of prevention and control 87(63.0%) of the respondents would like to practice measures to prevent and control HIV/AID from being infected people

Conclusion: Understanding the KAP about HIV/AIDS of people who live in state house IDP’s and in general populations will help us in formulating strategy for prevention and control.

Abstract: Hormonal and reproductive factors have been identified as major determinants of breast cancer risk. Breast Cancer is the one of the diseases affecting the world wide women population. The Indian subcontinent presents Breast Cancer to be one of the leading cancers, and West Bengal represents it to be the most common carcinoma among females. The present study attempts to understand the association of abortion and breast cancer in Bengalee Hindu Caste Females of West Bengal. To best of the knowledge abortions and breast cancer risk among the females is yet to be taken in consideration in Bengalee Hindu caste females. To fulfill the objective 108 diagnosed breast cancer patients were considered along with 120 age matched controls without the history of breast cancer in the family. Result indicated abortions have significant (p<0.001) association with breast cancer.. Therefore, the present study vindicated other than genetic predisposition modification of reproductive and lifestyle factors might be taken into consideration in early prognosis of breast cancer among the studied population.

Abstract: The nasolabial cyst is an uncommon non‑odontogenic cyst arising in the maxillofacial tissues.1  Nasolabial cysts are uncommon lesions located close to the alar cartilage of the nose, extending into the lower nasal meatus, the upper gingivolabial sulcus and the floor of the nasal vestibule.3 This lesion grows slowly and me¬asures between 1.5 and 3 cm; it is characterized clinically by a floating tumefaction in the nasolabial sulcus, which elevates the upper lip.4 The aim of this paper was to assess a nasolabial cyst  to describe the clinical presentation, the diagnosis and the appropriate surgical techniques used in this disease.

Abstract: Cancer incidents and mortality rate has been in an increase since 1990 and it is expected to go higher by the year 2030. Based on the demographic and the average annual percentage changes, death and the new incidences of cancer is expected to go higher. It is projected that Cancer will be the most killer disease if no measures are taken to curb the new incidences and to cure the disease. Lung cancer is projected to remain the most type of killer cancer all over the world as many people are exposed to causing agents which we cannot control for example air pollution.  However, pancreases and liver cancer are expected to surpass breast, prostrates and colorectal cancer to become the second and third leading cancer death by 2030.As compared to HIV/AID on a graph, the slope shows that HIV/AID is on a decline while Cancer in on the rise since 1990. An increase in screening and prevention measures for cancer from all parts of the world can change cancer incidence and death rates but it will require a concentrated effort from the researcher health providers and the governments in making the readily available to all people.
