Abstract: Flood has been recognized not only within the rural but also in urban environment in Nigeria and in many other parts of the world as one of the environmental degradation problems causing serious loss to both human and the environment. The application of Geographic Information System (GIS) for monitoring and managing flood prone areas are very important in creating conducive environment for urban residents and in conformity with planning standards. The aim of this paper therefore is to delineate flood potential areas around Ala River in Akure south local government area of Ondo State for early warnings and planning, control and management using google earth imageries and capabilities of GIS.

Abstract:  Worldwide, as conventional oil resources are depleted, beam pumping system is becoming the common type of artificial lift method for onshore wells. Production testing of beam pumped wells is an important diagnostic tool to detect potential production problem and for monitoring reservoir performance. In addition, the well test data and the inflow performance relationship (IPR) combined with the production system.

Also when larger population of beam pumping wells are connected to central batteries, it is difficult to determine the daily production of each well or to identify the cause of low production in the battery, as there is not any easy way to identify which well is affected. The new method continuously infers the production and by analyzing the down hole pumps card data.

The complete design of a sucker rod pumping system is an involved trial and error process. An "optimum" design requires that the engineer specify pump size and type; rod string size, taper, and material; surface unit type and size, gear box rating, beam rating, and stroke length; and prime mover type and size. The procedure requires that the engineer first assume an appropriate combination of pump, rod, unit, and prime mover and then perform calculations which lead to refining that initial assumption.

Abstract: Oil pipeline wax deposition is one of the major problems facing in the crude oil transportation flow line from the offshore to onshore through pipe. The wax deposition occurs because of the crude oil fluids temperature is decrease during the transportation process and cause solidification of wax components. Wax deposition in oil and gas production is one of the major flow assurance challenges the industry faces today. Wax deposition is mostly a temperature driven process which means that subsea pipelines are especially vulnerable. Wax precipitates from oil when it is cooled and the wax may deposit on pipeline walls. Wall deposits can lead to severe problems and need to be removed in an efficient way. It is difficult to perform accurate deposition measurements on real pipelines. The present study intends to use MATLAB simulator to predict wax deposited in a onshore pipeline using MATZAIN model. It provides idea of how wax is being deposited in pipeline and also suitable suggestions are also provided.

Abstract:  The main objective of this study was to assess the internal factors affecting SACCOS on member empowerment in Tanzania. Specific focus was on assessing whether there is member participation in decision making in their SACCOS affairs, capacity building in individual SACCOS and if leadership which exists in SACCOS empowers its members.

 Purposive and simple random sampling techniques were used and 128 questionnaires were distributed, of which 120 were collected and 113 were used. Observation, documentary review and personal interviews were also conducted to SACCOS’ members, board members, and employees from 8 SACCOS in 4 districts of Mbeya region. Data were analyzed and presented using SPSS and frequency distribution tables.

Through questionnaires and observation it was found that, there were some weaknesses in   capacity building. It was concluded that, unless there is capacity building   effective member participation in SACCOS can hardly be realized. It is also recommended that, SACCOS should solicit education funds and ensure regular training to its members. SACCO’s members, employees and board members should be equipped with training on various technical skills. Government should strengthen the capacity of SACCOS by supporting them in required facilities, sufficient funds and relevant skills.

Abstract: Knowledge management (KM) has been viewed as one of the most important developments in the fields of information studies and management in the modern times. By obtaining, organizing, documenting and sharing knowledge, KM helps complex organizations make better decisions and solve their problems efficiently and effectively. As the highest centres of learning, universities should build information infrastructure and create an atmosphere where academic and non-academic staff, students, researchers, patrons and other stakeholders can take part in various KM sharing actions. The role of knowledge workers in this regard is quite important. By promoting knowledge discovery and use, knowledge workers can bring about changes in the university’s organizational cultures and individual behaviors relative to knowledge. Universities can play an important role in the building and unrestricted development of a knowledge-based society by recruiting and developing skilled and competent knowledge workers and empowering them to manage and leveraging the knowledge assets strategically. In this paper we look for the level of understanding of KM within the universities in Saudi Arabia and the current KM practice undergoing, and how they try to improve and identify the barriers preventing them becoming smart/future universities. As the study showed that many agreed on the importance of KM in their establishments, they either do not apply it, or is not supported by higher positions.

Abstract: This paper examines the potential of horticultural farming in livelihood sustainability and development in the upper Minjiang River basin of Sichuan Province, China. Horticultural farming mainly, cultivation of fruits is the main occupation of the people and they are fully dependent on its farming to carry their livelihoods. Suitable agro-climatic conditions characterize this region that enhances the production and productivity of fruit crops. Diversity of crops depends upon the altitude, as it is high in the low altitude (<1600 m). There are 13 types of fruits and 19 types of vegetable grown. In terms of area, production and productivity, it is higher in the high altitude. Tourism is the other promising sector in livelihood sustainability. This region is also rich in growing medicinal plants. Meanwhile, the landscape is fragile and natural hazards are quite active. Development of horticulture will enhance the economy and restore the fragile landscape. This study reveals that the future sustainability of livelihoods is dependent on all the given options.

Abstract: There has been an unprecedented expansion of school education especially in the developing countries like India, which has further accentuated a demand for teacher education. The demand for qualified and quality teachers has been continuously on the increase, the world over. Quite naturally, the teacher education programs have acquired renewed significance. It has become imperative that the effort and resources mobilized towards teacher education are effective and field relevant in particular country contexts. It is a pertinent expectation that the teacher education programs should reveal or exhibit vibrancy adequate for responding to the emerging perspectives and paradigms of school education and the teacher roles thereof. Institutions of teacher-education fulfill vital roles in the global communities; they have the potential to bring changes within educational systems that will shape the knowledge and skills of future generations. Abstract: The study aimed to determine the health and lifestyle status of senior citizens in Northern Samar, Philippines. Covering 416 respondents coming from the three geographical areas of Northern Samar, Philippines, a survey instrument of profile and health and lifestyle status was utilized in the study. Statistical tools included frequency counts, percentages, weighted means and Analysis of Variance. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the senior citizens were married, with P5,000 – P10,000 income bracket and graduate of basic education. The respondents generally have good health and lifestyle status and have occasionally availed the benefits derived from relevant senior citizen laws. There was a significant difference in the senior citizens’ health and lifestyle status and benefits derived among the three geographical areas of the province.

Abstract: Personality dynamics capture not only the interplay of traits in manifest behavior but also the influence of thinking styles and nature of intellectual functioning. It becomes interesting to note how inclination towards educational operationalization such as arts and science domains could indicate the aforesaid characteristics. The present study was designed to assess the personality types, Field Dependence/ Field Independence cognitive modes of functioning and Divergent/ convergent thinking styles of university students studying in science and arts streams. The sample comprised of 50 students each in the arts and science domain from the university, age ranging 20-23 years. The psychological tests administered on the two groups were Cattells’s 16PF (1973), TTCT by Torrance (1974), Culture Fair Intelligence Test (Cattell’s, 1973) and Embedded Figure Test (Witkins, 1971). The two groups presented a varied picture on the above mentioned indices of personality dynamics.

Abstract: Agriculture scenario in Punjab has witnessed fast transformation since the middle of 1960’s. In this process, farmers have become more capital intensive. Thus their dependence on credit has increased for meeting their agricultural requirements. In Punjab, Cooperative banks play a significant role in the development of agriculture sector. Punjab state is having a federal structure of Cooperative Banks having State Cooperative Agricultural Development Bank (SCBs) as an apex institution with district central Co-operative banks (DCCBs) at district level and Primary agriculture credit societies (PACs). In this study, an attempt has been made to examined the role of Cooperative banks in agriculture credit from 2007-2008 to 2012-13 in India and particularly in Punjab. Thus, this study examined the organisation, trend and pattern of agriculture credit and challenges faced by Cooperative banking institution in Punjab. . It can be concluded that the performance of Cooperative Banks with regard to agriculture credit in Punjab has deteriorated .There is urgent need to open new cooperative bank branches in rural area and provide all financial facilities at low cost. So Government should have the primary responsibility to open new cooperative banks branches and to ensure that its citizens have easy access to cooperative credit.

Abstract: Changes in heat and precipitation as a result of climate change are expected to have adverse effects on health, particularly among the most vulnerable populations. The World Health Organization estimate that 34% of all juvenile (under age 14) health problems globally, are due to climate modifiable environmental factors. In the Lake Victoria basin (LVB) Kenya, projected impacts include food scarcity, child mulnutrition, enteric diseases and malaria. In this study, we sought to assess the impact of drought on the household’s food options and juvenile diet in the LVB, Kenya. A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 168 randomly selected households in Gwasi hills and Kano flood plains, LVB, Kenya. Data collected included socio-demographic factors, types of foodstuff available for households and juveniles. A twelve-hour household’s weighed food uptake assessement was conducted for five days (i.e Monday to Friday). An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to the collect. Respondents were 40% (67) and 60% (101) male; female respectivly in two sites. Gwasi hills had a higher level of education (3.9± 2.5 y vs. 2.2± 1.6 y, p=0.05); were more likely to be bread winners (53.2% vs. 6.7%, p<0.001), had better monthly incomes ($6.8± 2.7 vs. 3.9± 2.4, p<0.001) and fewer children (3.5± 1.4 vs. 4.2± 2.2, p=0.01) than the households in the Kano flood plains. Maize meal was dorminantly consumed by households. Dry fish (locally known as omena), was the predominant source of protein. Foodstuff consumed in the households did not meet juvenile diet requirements. Climate change adaptation strategies to improve household’s sources of food are needed in the LVB, Kenya.

Abstract: Nowadays people prefer wireless network to wired network, though the network speed is not constant they use wireless network because they provides us many benefits like portability and flexibility. We have Wi-Fi hotspots at home, coffee shops, airports, hotels and even cities. Due to this, Radio spectrum is getting clogged day by day and demand for wireless network is increasing drastically every year. An emerging technology using Visible Light Communications (VLC) for high speed wireless communications is Light Fidelity commonly known as Li-Fi. Li-Fi uses light as a carrier signal instead of radio frequency as in Wi-Fi. Li-Fi is a technology that uses LED's to transmit data without wire. LED is the key component in this data transmission as LED has the capacity of fast switching ON and OFF. The major problem faced in Li-Fi technology is, if the receiver or the photo detector is inclined at some angle then it doesn’t have the capacity to receive the particular light signal that consist of the data that is being transmitted by the Li-Fi LED bulbs. The main objective of this paper is to implement the absorption concept i.e. using high sensitive photo detector when it is inclined to some angle it must start absorbing the light that is being transmitted by the LED bulb.

Abstract: The study described the production of intonation pattern of the Non-English major student teachers during their on-campus teaching. The qualitative research method was used to analyze the data and describe their intonation patterns. The utterances were investigated in distinction between falling and rising intonation of wh-questions and yes/no questions. In the conduct of analysis, an interview guide was used to gather data on the language profile of the student teachers. Data confirm that the student teachers’ mother tongue (Filipino) was commonly used in most of their verbal exchanges activities. It is worthy to note that the utterances of the student teachers displayed evidence of intonation patterns variation on wh-questions and yes/no questions. The production of intonation patterns of the student teachers was resulted from the common linguistic phenomenon in which they tended to carry the intonation and pronunciation rules from their mother tongue (Filipino) into their English spoken discourse. This qualitative research study implies that there is an interference of first language (Filipino) in the production of the student teachers’ intonation patterns which describes the Philippine English intonation pattern for wh- questions and yes/no questions. Forthcoming studies may obtain more valued insights by gathering geographically varied samples that would include student teachers across disciplines.

Abstract: Water is vital for sustaining all forms of life on earth. Treatment of domestic wastewater before its disposal into the environment was not given much importance until the recent past. This was due to increased contamination rates of surface and ground water sources. Domestic wastewater treatment is becoming even more critical due to diminishing water resources and resulting water scarcity especially during summer in many parts of the country. Aeration is one of the methods which help in the removal of various contaminants present in domestic wastewater. This paper focuses on how the various constituents of waste water vary with aeration. Diffused fine bubble aeration was done in a circular tank at various flow rates (1.5 L/minute, 3 L/minute, 4 L/minute) at time periods of 24 hours, 48 hours and 72 hours using air stones and the percentage reduction in COD, BOD and Turbidity were found out. It was found that as flow rate of aeration increased the percentage removal of above constituents also increased. Optimum removal was possible at a flow rate of 4 L/min at time period of 72 hours. BOD, COD, Turbidity were found to be removed by 95.88%, 95.71%, and 37.72% respectively.
