Abstract: The Indian education system has a vast, rich and organized history with its chronology starting from ancient Gurukul system followed by colonization of British Empire till its freedom. Post-independence the Government sector is consistently working by formulating policies, framing guidelines and setting up standards for emphasizing quality in education as a primary goal.  Since the scenario in higher education is in constant flux with over growing demand and ever changing opportunities in job sector. This paper highlights the crux of adopting interdisciplinary approach in transforming higher education system towards covering and accelerating scientific innovations, developing critical thinking skills, solving complex real life problems, globalization and growing fluidity in employment.

Abstract: Biodiversity data are necessary to support conservation efforts of diverse non-wood forest natural resources like bamboos. There is estimated 1,200 bamboo species worldwide and 62 species are identified in the Philippines.  This study determined the biodiversity of bamboo species found in Lubuagan, Kalinga of Northern Philippines. The randomized complete block design with sub- block sampling was adopted in this study.  The following diversity indices were determined; population density, index of similarity, species richness, diversity and evenness. Results showed that the study sites harbored ten (10) bamboo species belonging to four (4) genera. Of these species, six (6) are introduced and four (4) are indigenous of which one (1) is an unknown species (Byila-ay) belonging to the genus Schizostachyum.  Results show that bamboo species diversity, richness, and evenness increase as altitude increases, while population density decreases as altitude increases. The east and south aspects harbor higher number of species that have low species evenness. This study indicates that natural forest ecosystems have higher diversity indices than man-made ecosystems such as farm and residential areas. Some endemic bamboo species were found to be restricted to certain altitudinal range and habitats while some were commonly distributed.  The 53.33 to 66.67% index of similarity between the study sites reflects the presence of both endemic and introduced bamboo species. The forest and farm habitats with rich in bamboo plants should be conserved as green cover and carbon sinks to mitigate the threats of climate change.

Abstract: Banks are financial intermediates between depositors and borrowers. The backbone of the economy for any country related directly to the economics performance of the banking sector which included Islamic banks and commercial banks that play a crucial role in any society.  Dubai has emerged as a global city of the Gulf region and it is increasingly developing as a business hub for service industries such as IT and Finance. The Emirate's Western-style model of business drives its economy, and more than 90% of the main revenues currently coming from various aspects rather than financial services. Therefore analyzing the economical efficiency of this sector in Dubai is very important. Data Envelop Analysis (DEA) technique  is one of the most famous tools to evaluate the efficiency of a set of Organizations or Decision Making Units, and it is an application of the mathematical programming optimization. DEA offers a variety of models that use multiple inputs and outputs to compare the efficiency of two or more entities.The economics efficiency and performance for any institution consists of two types of efficiencies; the technical efficiency that indicates the ability to gain the maximum production by the available inputs, and the locative efficiency that indicates the ability to use the best mix for inputs by considering prices and available production technology. In this article the DEA model will be applied for measuring the economical performance for commercial Banks versus Islamic Banks in Dubai. The considered financial indicators to analyze the economics performance are the Deposits and Cash & BCB (cash and balances in central bank) as inputs for the model in both Islamic and commercial Banks, while the investments and the Loans in commercial banks and Murabaha in Islamic banks (instead of loans in commercial banks) are considered as outputs.

Abstract: The study was conducted in Barangay Balong, Tabuk City, Kalinga and Barangay Ammacian, Pinukpuk, Kalinga Philippines. The study aimed to determine the demographic profile of the CBFM beneficiaries, and assess the carbon stock of the selected CBFM project sites. The methodologies used includes interview using structured questionnaire and measurement of trees at the diameter at breast height (dbh).  Above ground biomass was computed through the allometric equation developed by Brown, (1997). Result showed that the respondents’ age ranges from 17 to 72 years old, generally male, and married. The household size ranges from 5-8 members, while the average number of children is three. The average number of schooling is nine years.In terms of carbon accumulation of individual forest farm, Tabuk city had an average of 149. 96 Mg/ha. while Pinukpuk had an average of 360.82 Mg/ha.

Title: CARBON STOCK ASSESSMENT OF TREE SPECIES IN SELECTED COMMUNITY-BASED FOREST MANAGEMENT PROJECTS IN KALINGA

Abstract: Characterization of wine parameters pH, volatile acidity, titratable acidity, ethanol content, methanol content and total soluble solids and comparison with the Philippine National Standard for tropical fruit wines, distilled wines and tuba was made to the wine samples. The pH by glass electrode, gas chromatography for EC and MC, titration for TA as tartaric acid and VA and refractometry for TSS. Mean pH was 3.78 ± 0.28 for tropical fruit wines, 3.55± 0.29 for distilled wines and 3.87 ± 0.11 for tuba. Mean TA was 0.52 ± 0.31% for tropical fruit wines, 0.50 ± 0.45% for distilled wines and 0.031 ± 0.0003% for tuba. Mean VA was 0.25 ± 0.15% by vol. for tropical fruit wines, 0.29 ± 0.14% by vol. for distilled wines and 0.12 ± 0.005% by vol. for tuba. Mean EC was 12.44 ± 3.34% by vol. for tropical fruit wines, 23.43 ± 6.08% by vol. for distilled wines and 3.80 ± 0.07% by vol. for tuba. Mean TSS was 9.34 ± 3.33 oBrix for tropical fruit wines, 8.25 ± 1.72 oBrix for distilled wines and 3.8 ± 0.007 oBrix for tuba. There was no detection of methanol for all the wine samples. There was deviation in the VA, TA and TSS from the standard and no deviation in the pH and EC. Variations in the EC, TSS, TA and VA in the tropical fruit wines and distilled wines came from the deviation from the standards. A wine catalog featured the wine parameters, description and information of the manufacturer. A further study is recommended to check the conformity of the wine parameters to the standards.

Abstract: This paper expounds on Cleaner Production (CP) as on environmental management approach that seeks to improve the environmental performance of products, processes, and services by looking at the causes or sources of environmental problems rather than the symptoms. It also discusses the related concept of Energy Audit (EA), a process that identifies where energy is consumed and how much energy is used in an existing facility, building, or structure in order to provide information in the preparation and adaption of energy conservation measures. It then describes the implementation of CP and EA program among the MSMEs in Region IV-A of the Philippines through the technical assistance provided by the region Regional Office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Region IV-A. The focus of this paper is the assessment of the impacts of the DOST-assisted CP and EA programs on the productivity and competitiveness of the MSMEs in Region IV-A using the descriptive research method and the qualitative approach in data collection and evaluation.

Abstract: A natural dye implies those colorants that are obtained from animal or vegetable matter without chemical processing. In recent years attempts are being made to review the old art of dyeing with vegetable dyes due to carcinogenic nature of synthetic dyes and their intermediates. With the present nature and international awareness of environmental ecology a lot of interest is being generated in recent year to use eco-friendly fibers and natural dyes. A study was under taken to find out the effect of selected herbs namely Aloe Vera, Green Chirayta and Indian Whitehead. on cotton with different. Color fastness of dyed fabrics was assessed. Depth of shade and evenness of dye was also evaluated.

Abstract: The wine parameters of tropical fruit wines, distilled wines and tuba stored in plastic-low density polyethylene (LDPE), amber glass and colorless glass bottle kept in room temperature (average was 28⁰C) and cold temperature (average was 4⁰C) were determined after storing the wines for 94 days. The wine parameters that were monitored were pH, titratable acidity, volatile acidity, ethanol content, methanol content, total soluble solids and total plate count. The tropical fruit wines were influenced by the temperature and container in terms of pH, titratable acidity, ethanol content, and total soluble solids while the volatile acidity was affected by the container only. There was an increase in the pH and ethanol content when the wines were stored in cool temperature and amber glass bottle, the titratable acidity and total soluble solids increased when stored in room temperature and plastic container and the volatile acidity increased while stored in plastic container regardless of the temperature. The distilled wines were influenced by the container and temperature in the volatile acidity, ethanol content and total soluble solids only, the other parameters were not affected during the storage. The volatile acidity and total soluble solids increased when stored in room temperature and plastic container while the ethanol content was higher when stored in cold temperature and amber glass bottle. Tuba was affected by the temperature and container in terms of pH, titratable acidity, volatile acidity, ethanol content and total soluble solids. The titratable acidity and volatile acidity were higher when stored in room temperature and plastic bottles while the pH, ethanol content and total soluble solids were higher when stored in cold temperature and amber glass bottles. The changed in the wine parameters during the storage study contributed to the wine spoilage, the proposal given to the wine manufacturers discussed how the change will be addressed.

Abstract: India is such a country which is very much rich in terms of forest resources. These forest resources have been contributing for centuries towards the development of the country. As India is mainly a developing country, these forest resources are very much necessary for development purpose. But in the last few decades it is seen that in the name of development, these resources are being misused. However various movements have emerged to address such environmental crisis happening in the country. In this regard Chipko movement has become a rallying point which has focused worldwide attention on the environmental crisis in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand. But in spite of the successful implementation of the Chipko movement, there has been happening lots of devastation regarding the forest in the present time. This paper has mainly tried to draw the attention towards the Chipko movement, the most successful environmental movement ever happened in India along with the present devastating situation regarding the forest resources in India.

Abstract: Organophosphorous pesticides are the world’s most widely used pesticides in agriculture. Exposure of these pesticides and its metabolities have been related to a variety of nerve disorders in humans. Microbial degradation is considered to be a cost effective method for decontamination of toxic organophosphorous pesticides from the environment. In this study we isolated the bacteria from different agricultural field soil to degrade the Organophosphorous pesticides (Monocrotophos, Dichlorovos, chloropyrifos, diozinon) as a soul carbon source. And the results of biochemical tests shows that bacillus sp. Proteus sp. Serratia sp.effectively degrade the organophosphorus pesticides. 16s rRNA Gene sequencing results show that bacillus sp is responsible for degrading MCP Pesticide than others. Ussing thin layer chromatography technique find out the RF values that confirms the genus. It is evident from the results that the isolated bacillus sp could be used for bioremediate the area contaminated with organophosphorous pesticides. Thus we can remediate the environmental pollution.

Abstract: Lemon originated in Asian countries such as India and Malaysia. The scientific name for lemon is citrus limon. In India it is also known as nimbu, Bara nimbu, naranga etc. The study was conducted in two blocks of Hisar district namely Hisar-I and Hansi-I by random selection and by selecting two villages from each of the selected block at random. A sample of 100 respondents i.e. 25 from each village was drawn at random to assess adoption feasibility of lemon products. Perceived feasibility of lemon products was considered as profitable (50.0%), culturally and physically compatible (56.0% and 66.0% respectively), simple to make (47.0%) and most triable (57.0%). Regarding constraints, 81.0 per cent respondents perceived marketing of the product as the main constraint in adoption of lemon products.

Abstract: A study with primary importance given to the potential value of parameters derived from Radio sounding and scatterometer wind data for forecasting the thunderstorm associated with convective storm is presented here. The main aim of this study is to predict the thunderstorm with a lead-time by making use of four parameters i.e. lifted index, K index, Vorticity and divergence respectively. In the present work, we have used data for 2 years out of which the first year data is used for deciding the criteria or finding the threshold value for prediction. These parameters are applied to the second year data for verification. It was observed that the chosen parameters shows good linearity to the thunderstorm occurrence for about 6 hours I advance. The reported work bears importance as it used just 2 input parameters information from Radio Sounding and Scattterometer each to predict the thunderstorm occurrence over the consider region.
