Abstract: Hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in Delta State and export of oil and gas resources by the petroleum sector has substantially improved the nation’s economy over the past six decades.  However, activities associated with crude oil production are not unconnected to having adverse impacts on the livelihoods and environment. This study assesses the adverse impacts of hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation on livelihoods in Delta State, Nigeria. Data from Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Survey (KIS) derived from the inhabitants were collected and analyzed. A total of 388 questionnaires were used to collect data for the study. Relative Importance Index (RII) was the statistical technique used for the analysis of data. The results reveal that petroleum exploration and exploitation are being experienced and oil spillage and its attendant consequences are conspicuous in the study area; and that the inhabitants’ occupations are being affected negatively. It further shows increasing rate of vandalization of crude oil pipelines in areas where major exploration and exploitation activities are on-going and in areas where crude oil pipelines pass through which constitute pollution. Socio-economic conditions of the people were also observed to be adversely affected.  Most of the people, therefore, fall within the low socio-economic status.  It was also observed that poor and inadequate livelihood conditions, mainly ubiquitous in the study area, also reveal the undesirable effects of petroleum exploration and exploitation on people’s means of livelihoods. Besides, findings in the Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Key Informants Survey also showed that petroleum exploration and exploitation activities have adverse effects on the inhabitants’ means of livelihoods.  The implications of the study are numerous, including but not restricted to the facts that petroleum exploration and exploitation have severe negative effects on the livelihoods of the people in Delta State and there is absence of valid and reliable corrective measures to nip these problems in the bud. In accordance with the research findings, the study recommends economic diversification policy drive to be thoroughly rooted and focused in Delta State, among other workable recommendations proffered with a view to mitigating the adverse impacts of hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation on livelihoods in Delta State, Nigeria.

Abstract: Kerala is one of the highest literate states in India. But growth of engineering degree holders was questionable one. This study focuses on supply of engineering graduates and problems of engineering graduates in Kerala. The issue of outturn of engineering graduates is very complex and it cut across numerous disciplines, it concerns individuals directly and indirectly to local and national economies. It needs to be enhancing the employability as an integral part of economic development. The present study focused on the trend and pattern of supply of engineering graduates in Kerala and the problems of engineering graduates in Kerala. Non-linear regression used for the study and found out that there is a non-linear trend in intakes and outturn of engineering graduates in Kerala.

Abstract: Self-adaptive systems are capable of editing their run time behaviour if we want to gain system objectives. Unpredictable instances such as modifications inside the system's surroundings, device faults, new requirements, and changes inside the priority of requirements are a number of the reasons for triggering edition movements in a self-adaptive system. To deal with these uncertainties, a self-adaptive system continuously monitors itself to gather data and analyses them to decide whether adaption is required. Abstract: The study was carried out in two States of North Western Nigeria, Kebbi and Sokoto States covering the largest markets in the state capitals of the two states. The markets selection was purposive, based on high patronage of locally processed and imported rice in the markets. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) model was designed to test the multidimensionality of the theoretical constructs. Specifically, we test the hypothesis that rice quality is a multidimensional construct composed of three factors; Experience attributes (EXP), Search attributes (SEAR) and Credence attributes (CRE). From the result of the study, an examination of unstandardized regression weight reveals that almost all estimates to be both reasonable and statistically significant; and all standard errors appear also to be in good order. The results of the study revealed new quality scales have three dimensions and some of the items have very little loading on the factor thy supposed to measure but all the items are intended to measure preference.

Abstract: Background MDM Scheme is one of the biggest programme launched by Government of India which provides meal to children at schools. This study was conducted to analyse the opinion of the children and care taker and also to assess the nutritional status of the children availing mid day meal in schools. Material and methods: An analytical cross sectional study was conducted in Government primary and middle school (NDMC schools) in south Delhi. A total of 600 students, 355 boys and 245 girls studying in 1st to 8th standards were selected randomly from primary and upper primary classes (age- 4 years to 15 years). A self prepared structured questionnaire were used to collect information about family profile and opinion regarding MDM. Anthropometry data (Height, weight and MUAC) were collected by measuring with standard techniques and BMI for age was calculated.  WHO, (2006) criteria was used to assess nutritional status. Result: The study reveals that majority of the children belong to upper lower (52%) and lower middle (41.47%) class according to KSSS, (2012). All most all children (97.83%)) were satisfied with the MDM scheme and wanted to continue (97.33%) the scheme. Majority of the children (83%) consume MDM daily. Out of the cyclic menu, majority of the children (57.5%) liked the taste of Aloo puri and rice and dal was disliked by as high as 98.83 % of the children. 87.33 % beneficiaries preferred to eat mid day meal during their recess time. As high as 96.83 % of the beneficiaries were satisfied with quantity of food served. Results revealed that 67.16% of the children were normal, 13.163% were undernourished and 19.33% were overweight as per BMI for age. Under the family profiles variables, father’s occupation found significant (p≤0.05) association with nutritional status.

Abstract: This descriptive documentary research is a critical analysis of crime incidence in the Province Guimaras, from 2007-2009.  The factors that tend to the commission of these crimes and the implications of these findings to law enforcers and school managers were the focus of this investigation. The statistical tools used were the frequency count, percentage, ranking and the mean. The respondents were classified according to personal attributes and personal life.  The most prevalent crimes committed were crimes against person followed by crimes against public order and crimes against moral and personal property.  The factors that most influenced the commission of crimes were alcoholism, followed by media-exposure-violent crimes and peer influence.  There were no significant differences in the factors influencing the commission of crimes when classified according to variables.  Findings implied that police personnel need peace education which encourages values of compassion, caring and cooperation with their fellow citizens.  Some of the preventive measures that should be exercised by the police force would have to possess the right values and attitudes in dealing with their constituents, so that they could get their respect.  Examining the home and family life could be a solution.  Findings also implied the need to curb

Abstract: The purposed of the study was to determine the weaving industry of Barangay Sapal, San Lorenzo, Guimaras: Bases for Enhancement Program. A descriptive study was used to determine the weaving industry of Barangay Sapal, San Lorenzo, Guimaras. A researcher-made questionnaire was employed to gather data on weaving industry while the respondents profile was based on age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, number of years related in weaving, monthly family income and assigned task in the organization. Statistical tools used were Pearson r and Anova. All statistical computations were processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS). The study revealed that respondents Profile as perceive by the weavers when they are taken as a whole and when the respondents were classified as to age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, number of years related to weaving, monthly family income and assigned task in the organization. The community and the environment has a high frequency and percent in the source of materials between than the LGU and DTI. Generally, the high frequency and percent has a high value in the source of materials. The material used was along their road and it is sufficient to their needs and supply.

Abstract: This study determined the implications of Lyceans’ participation to the US Work and Travel (WAT) program. Using survey data and transcriptions from interviews, the study established specific program implications on the students’ personal, social, intercultural, and career development. A total of 22 or 56% WAT alumni who joined the program in AY 2017-2018 participated in the survey.

The study revealed that the WAT program has positively contributed to the participants’ personal and professional development. Despite some challenges encountered, the overall experience of the participants has been positive due to the intimate interactions they have had with diverse groups of people; in which their exposure to work and day-to-day challenges have been a source of learning and adventure. It was evident from the participants narratives that their experience has enhanced their self-confidence, independence, intrapersonal skills, and cultural competence. The experience has also influenced the participants’ views about the hospitality and tourism industry, as well as their future career aspirations.   

Proposals to effect improvements in the administration of the program, with emphasis on orientation content and placement arrangements with local providers are recommended.

Abstract: Existing gap between urban and rural process of growth and change necessitates development decentralization as like the political decentralization in India. Factual development is related to all the people of rural and urban areas. Economists accepted the same and argued in favour of capability enhancement of rural people for balanced economic development.

MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) is one of the flagship programmes of government of India implemented in the year 2005. By the very nature of the act, it has been active in each and every rural corners of the country. Rural unskilled people are entitled to minimum 100 days of work in a year. With different scheduled works and convergent approaches of MGNREGA, the process of rural development is now disseminated in the hands of participants. Taking 100 sample MGNREGA workers and same number of non MGNREGA workers (with same economic status) of Assam state (during June to September, 2018) we observed the situation- whether MGNREGA has promoted peoples’ participation in development and actually decentralized the process of development. With these prime objectives of research we collected empirical information regarding MGNREGA workers (Experimental Group/EG) from 10 numbers of different MGNREGA work sites (located in different panchyats) of Assam. Similarly, information for non MGNREGA workers (Control Group/CG) is collected from the respective panchyats from where the MGNREGA work sights are chosen for data collection. Both MGNREGA and non MGNREGA workers are belonging to similar economic standard especially with respect basic economic necessities of living.

Taking four matching covariates (Age, educational qualification, marital status and family type) and variables (peoples’ participation and decentralization of development) of study we applied PSM technique of research. Out of total 200 sample units of research 146 units are exactly matched and accordingly impacts on peoples’ participation and decentralization of development through MGNREGA are analyzed in the paper. Matching propensity score lies between 0.38 to 0.63 ranges. ‘Peoples’ participation in development and decentralization of development has increased in the current period’ is the single hypothesis created to verify during the course of our study. Using SPSS we analyzed the problem and found positive peoples’ participation and development decentralization under MGNREGA in the state of Assam.

Abstract: Self- efficacy is the belief of people in their capabilities to produce desired effects by their own actions. Learned optimism is a sense of enthusiasm, confidence and control, which develops once one achieves small successes. Happiness is a positive emotional state. It involves the detailed evaluation of one’s current position in the world. The present research was executed to elucidate the role of self –efficacy and learned optimism in happiness of university students. Design: The sample consisted of 50 students studying post-graduate courses in a university. They were assessed by self-efficacy scale, learned optimism scale and happiness scale. Results: The results of correlation coefficient indicated that all of the studied variables were positively significantly correlated with happiness. Also, the regression analysis showed that self -efficacy and learned optimism could predict happiness significantly. The implications and limitations of the research are discussed. Conclusion: On the basis of the findings in the present study we may conclude that self –efficacy and learned optimism are influential factors in happiness of university students.

Abstract: The development of a nation rests mainly on the level of education among there people. Without education human race would have remained but as another animal ride. Education is a process towards development. The term study habit can be as the students' way of study whether systematic, efficient or inefficient. Academic achievement refers to what and how an individual has learnt qualitatively and quantitatively after a period of instruction is given. A habit is something that is done on a scheduled, regular, planned basis and that is not relegated to a second place or optional place in one's life. It is simply done, no reservations, no excuses, and no expectations. Study habits keep the learner perfect in getting knowledge and developing attitude towards things necessary for achievement in different field of human endeavor. Students whom develop good study habits at school increase the potential to complete their assignments successfully and to learn the material they are studying. They also reduce the possibility of not knowing what is expected and of having to spend time studying at home. The present study is carried out to see the relationship of academic achievement to study habits  among secondary school students of Sambhal district. Through purposive sampling technique a sample of 300 secondary school students are taken. Normative survey method has been followed to find out the study habit of secondary school students.

Abstract: This study seeks to examine empirically the relationship between Act east policy and Economic Growth and their causality in the context of India. The objective of this paper is to investigate the dynamics of the causal relationship between Act East policy and economic growth in India for the period spanning from 1991 to 2016. The study uses time series data for the time period ranging from 1991 to 2016 (annual data sets) on variables Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which measures the overall economic growth of the country, and Export, Imports and Foreign exchange reserves (FER) as measures of Act East policy expansion indicator(IAEP). The results indicate existence of the cointegration between them. There have a long-run equilibrium relationship between both policy implications and economic growth, although they may be in disequilibrium. The study also clarifies the existence of a long-run unidirectional causality running from act east policy to GDP in the long-run.

Abstract: This research aims at finding out the impacts of insurgency on educational infrastructure in basic education schools in Borno State. All the 1600 schools have been sampled and surveyed using a structured questionnaire which was administered directly by trained Research Assistants (RAs). The percentile statistics was used to analyze the data collected. A total of 1600 schools were sampled. The research revealed that 12% of the classes in Basic education schools were partially destroyed and 22.61% were completely destroyed. Rebuilding the destroyed classes and using education to prevent insurgency was recommended.

Abstract: Transfer of meaning from source to target language entails some changes that take place due to some factors which can be regarded as “linguistic” and “extra linguistic” in nature (Blum-kulka,1995), Nida(1969), Vinay and Darbelnet(1958/95), Catford (1969). Stylistic analysis in general seems to be one of the most challenging tasks to be performed by a translator. In other words, stylistics is a potential problem of the translation process due to the fact that modulation procedure changes the focus or point of views of message from SL into TL. The dimension to which stylistics has potential or making mostly contributed chiefly or structurally. By shaping one’s sensitivity towards the workings of the language system, by improving one’s sensitivity towards the workings of the language system, by enhancing one’s awareness of how literary convention and the writer’s creative act combine to make linguistic form take an aesthetic significance. In line with the above, this study aimed at studying stylistic devices used in translating Gandoki (GDK) into Worrior Ganxoki (AWGDK). Moreover, the frame work in Viney and Darbelnet (1958) was adopted for the purpose of this study. The two authors outline seven basic translation procedures. These are: Calque, literal, borrowing, modulation, adaptation, transposition and equivalence through which all translation problems will be addressed.  Nineteen (19) different stylistics devices are used by the translator to achieve functional equivalence while translating GDK into AWGDK. The stylistic devices are: modulation (General to specific, part to whole, part to another, singular into plural and others), adaptation, transposition, equivalence and ellipsis to mention but a few.
