Abstract: Musa paradisiaca often refereed as Banana is an ancient herbaceous flowering plant and the most earlier crop to be cultivated. It is one the important component of diet for all classes of people worldwide. All the parts of the plant is believed to have beneficial effects in different ailments and an excellent nutritional element. The present study was aimed to find the protective effect of Musa paradisiacal fruit extract on acute pancreatitis in rats.

Male Sprague dawley rats were randomly divided in to 4 groups. Control group with normal saline; disease control group where acute pancreatitis was induced by using a single dose of L-arginine (2.5g/kg b.w); Musa paradisiacal fruit extract were prophylactically administered before the induction of acute pancreatitis at a dose of 200 and 400 mg/kg b.w orally in normal saline for 7 days. At the end of the study, blood samples and isolated pancreas were subjected to different pancreatic, antioxidant and inflammatory biomarker analysis. The remaining tissue was subjected to histopathological studies and DNA fragmentation assay for assessing the damage and protection of the tissues.

The results of the study revealed that prophylactic administration of the extracts reduced the amylase and lipase levels when compared to disease control group as well as improved the overall antioxidant status in a dose dependent manner. Further, the extracts also showed a protective effect against apoptosis.

In conclusion, the present study suggest that administration of Musa paradisiacal fruit extract exhibited a protective effect on acute pancreatitis and further investigation is required for its molecular based mechanisms.

Abstract: Ethics is the philosophical study of morality. Ethics can be viewed as understanding the foundation and structure of morality regarding how we should live. The term “applied ethics” is used in practical sense to find moral solutions to the problems in society and it is an attempt to solve, or rather to point out problems in professional ethics. Environmental ethics is relatively a new branch in applied ethics. In environmental ethics, all the questions are raised in the context of global level. Therefore, environmental ethics is concerned with public morality or societies actions over nature. The questions raised in environmental ethics are having a global character. These questions demands actions not from one individual or group of individual as in the case of most inquiries in professional ethics.  This paper is an attempt to capture the evolution, development and prospects of Environmental Ethics in the contemporary society.

In 1990’s, when people were not aware of eco-friendly products, the concept called Green Marketing was introduced in the form of Green Washing. This article examines about green marketing, its strategies, importance, advantages and disadvantages. It provides suggestions for companies to produce eco friendly goods in order to survive for long run and to maintain sustainability in the market. Abstract: Automotive vehicles play a vital role in our daily life. Major accidents occur due to frontal collisions which cause serious injuries and disabilities. To prevent the collision some improvements, need to be done for the vehicles especially the safety measures to reduce the injury level of the occupants the nature of the vehicle structure is the ability to convert kinetic energy to deformation of the structural parts which results intrusion of the front part of the vehicle. This will severely harm the occupants who cannot able to withstand the heavy load during the collision. To prevent this sudden impact, the passive safety system is implemented to reduce the deceleration loads (G-Force). This research is based on the development of the occupant safety during the frontal collisions. In practice, the body structures include the front structure with crumple zones to absorb the kinetic force energy and during the impact the vehicle should maintain the integrity of the passenger compartment while controlling the impact deceleration pulse. The aim of the research is to reduce the stiffness in the front part of the chassis or to create a crumple area to deform the structure in a short time (milliseconds) and to absorb the impact energy in a controllable way. The structural rigidity should also be consistent with ride and handling and must be compatible with other vehicles on the road so it is not too soft or too aggressive. The main objective of the research is to reduce the frontal impact of the occupant safety by measuring the Intrusion and deceleration pulse with crash avoidance and crashworthiness.

Abstract: MANET stands for Mobile Ad hoc Network. It is a robust infrastructure-less wireless network. It can be composed either by mobile nodes or by both fine-tuned and mobile nodes. Nodes are arbitrarily connected with each other and composing arbitrary topology. They can act as both routers and hosts. To establish path from source to destination various type of routing protocol are used which are broadly classified into reactive, proactive and hybrid type of routing protocols. The AODV is the best performing routing protocol in terms of routing overhead etc.The selective forwarding attack is the active type of attack in which malicious node is present in the path which drop some of the packets and some packets are forwarded to destination. In this paper, novel technique has been proposed which detect and isolate malicious nodes from the network. The simulation of proposed technique is done in NS2 and it performs well in terms of various parameters.

Abstract: The contribution of small-scale fisheries to national GDP is modest but they are very important for food, employment, livelihoods income of more people. Problems and challenges in fisheries have been addressed by scholars from the different point of views. Lack of systematic data collection and integrated information as to small-scale fisheries has only been addressed to the certain extent. However, challenges in the management of small-scale fisheries are not studied well. Researches in small-scale fisheries pay limited attention to socio-economic issues rather focusing biological-ecological aspects. The reliability of collection of catch data has been questioned when multispecies fisheries are in place. Management tools commonly used in the small-scale fisheries are size limit, gear restriction, closed season, closed area, and fishing permits. The legal framework has been introduced in Sri Lanka to regulate fisheries. However, unsuccessful management of small-scale fisheries could lead to the weak institution, unclear management instrument, and limited involvement of fishers in the management process. Hence, this paper presents challenges in the management of small-scale fisheries in “Salli” GN Division. This research was based on primary and secondary data. Informants selected through snowball sampling methods. Collected data were qualitatively analyzed using content analysis. Characteristics of small-scale fisheries in “Salli” GN Division includes multi-gear and multispecies, low capital and labour intensive, remote landing sites, weak market and bargaining power among fishers. Management of Small-scale fisheries in “Salli” GN Division faces resource overexploitation, complex fleet interactions, competition and conflicts between fleets (small-scale, industrial and recreational), and post-harvest problems, such as lack of infrastructure.

Abstract: Historically system design approaches favored the use of digital signal processors to implement controllers for embedded systems. Processor based implementation lack the speed advantage offered by custom hardware and concurrent processing because of their sequential nature. In some applications using a DSP would be overkill in design, and other approaches need to be explored. Custom hardware is an option where in the implementation could be done using FPGA, ASIC or an SoC. FIRs are a major component of signal processing applications and the design and implementation in FPGA of sigma 1 controller for semiactive suspension is presented in this paper. Alternate architectures for multiplication are explored and results are presented. Since multiplication by constant coefficients is needed for FIR implementation CSD notation is employed which minimizes the number of non-zeros in the constant multiplier. The results indicate area savings up to 74% and improvement is speed of computation by 7.2 times. Further research in this area needs to explore the possibility of using transposed form of FIR structure and possibility of optimization in resources consumed.

Abstract: Efficient firms may contribute more to aggregate industrial growth than inefficient. This paper takes the growth of China’s state-owned, private and foreign firms’ value added as a case. Data were monthly changes for 2006-2017. The study tested for differentials of the contribution of three types of firms to aggregate industrial growth. Variables contained a unit root but not cointegrated. A first-differenced VAR(4) was estimated. Significant findings are that the value added in private, foreign and state-owned firms increased by 1%, total industrial value added grew by 1.06%, 0.70% and 0.39%, respectively. Although private firms held the smallest asset size, private enterprises contributed most to industrial growth in China. State-owned firms held the largest asset size but contributed the least to industrial growth. State-owned firms have the highest share of lost firms and the smallest profits compared with private and foreign firms. This study supplies new evidence for the greater efficiency of private firms (including foreign firms) than that of state-owned firms.

Abstract: Land use and land cover is dominant role in the part of urbanization and urban centers. As the rapid urbanization led various activities in a region and these changes generally takes place in the agricultural land and caused decrease of arable land .The satellite imageries LANDSAT- TM and LANDSAT- ETM data’s are used. The scales are 1:50,000. 1991, 2001 and 2011 covering a period of 20 years the aerial distribution of the land use and land cover changes and population density has been observed. The changes were identified ,in which the decrease of Agricultural land, Natural vegetation, Educational infrastructures, Scrub land and Water body and increase of Built up land, Fallow land, River sand and Without scrub land. The land use and land cover maps are prepared by using GIS software to evaluate the changes and it is showed strong variation.

Abstract: Ward round auditing checklist was used to improve standards of infection control policy in ward and critical care area. This tool provided immediate feedback and rapid changes in practice where needed. The process served as a forum for good teamwork and facilitated a positive attitude to changing staff behaviour.

Material and Methods: A hospital based evaluative study was done in randomly selected different ward and critical care unit between 16 Oct-16 Nov 207 and 17 Nov -25 Dec  2017 through audit  via providing infection control checklist. Intensive monitoring on ward round criteria checklist and day to day feedback to sister in-charge .The data was obtained from 4 critical care unit and also 9 general ward at Ruby general Hospital, data analysis done using descriptive and inferential statistics .Data presented in terms of frequency, percentage.

Results : in general ward , highest compliance rate about some selective criteria on infection control criteria checklist on ward  such as  Anti – microbial solution in the hand washing area (pre Value -90.06%, post value -100%), Present four color segregating waste bin in every bed side  (pre value-88.5%,post value 100%) ,Visible contamination humidifier circuit (pre value -92.3%,post value -100%). Lowest compliance rate Checked used NS/DNS Bottles after 24 hours (9.2%), Opening date of multiple dose vial/bottles(pre value -19.6% post value -55.29%), ) ,Kept urinary catheter below bladder level with proper fixation( pre value -24.5% ,post value -70.2%). In other hand critical care unit, highest compliance rate on such as  provide catheter care in every shift( pre value -50.58,pst value -100%) , appropriate use of PPE(56.38%), uses of disposable BIPAP mask (pre value -43.76%, post value -98.07%) maintain hand hygiene before doing suctioning (pre value -41.65% ,post value - 96.95%) , proper storage of sterile items in critical care area(pre value ,post value -54.38%.93.26%). Lowest compliance rate are all tubing’s kept in proper place (pre value -19.22,post value -58% ).

Conclusion: from the above findings it was concluded that the ward round checklist on infection control is effective to maintain standard precaution and improved practice .

Abstract: The study utilized the CIPP Model Evaluation to evaluate the 18 recipes of technology transfer training program conducted by Iloilo Science and Technology University-Barotac Campus among trainee-respondents in the five barangays. The 25 trainee-respondents were identified through cluster sampling technique surveyed in the community. Adapted checklist questionnaire for demographic characteristics and extent of implementation of the training program was utilized. Moreover, the experts-made questionnaire for product evaluation was used to determine if there is significant difference in the mean gain scores. The overall extent of implementation of technology transfer training for trainee-respondent was better. Generally, a result of t-test for trainee-respondent was not significant, whereas results for local government unit in the compared means was not significant, and for community, was significant. This simply means that “sex” is not a defining factor in the training program conducted. Pearson r revealed a not significant correlation between the variables. Hence, this 18 recipes technology transfers training give opportunities to trainee-respondents to earn a living  as results revealed.

Abstract: The present study was to evaluate the effectiveness of aqueous preparations of Centella asiatica in the management of haloperidol induced Parkinsonism in rats.  Haloperidol is an antipsychotic medication and functions as an antagonist of dopamine.  As a result, the animal is induced with Parkinsonism.  It was administered to the rats as intraperitoneal injection at a dose of 1 mg/kg body weight, 4 hours and 30 minutes prior to the start of the behavioural experiment.  A total of 36 Wistar albino rats were screened for this study.  All the test animals weighed between 180 - 200 grams.  Animals were grouped into General, Control and Test.  General group were normal animals.  Control group 1 consisted of haloperidol injected (intra peritoneally 1 mg/kg body weight) and Control group 2 consisted of Centella asiatica fed orally (100 mg/kg body weight).  The test group 1 was treated with haloperidol + Centella asiatica and test group 2 with haloperidol + levodopa (10 mg/kg body weight).   Progression of the disease was detected with rotarod, beam walking, open field and foot print analysis.  L-dopa is used in the clinical treatment of Parkinson’s disease and dopamine responsive dystonia.  It was fed to the rats by orogastric feeding tube at a dosage of 10 mg/kg body weight, 6 hours and 30 minutes prior to the start of motor analysis.  The values were statistically analyzed for significance using Turkey post-hoc test (SPSS verson 16).  Results revealed that aqueous preparation of Centella asiatica had a significant role in the management of Parkinson’s disease.  There is a significant difference in between the control and the test groups.  Within the test groups, test group 2 (Levodopa treated animals) performed better than the test group 1 (animals fed with Centella asiatica).

Abstract: Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Sm. a wild ginger used as herbal medicines all over the world for a wide array of ailments. The present study aimed to determine the biochemical and amino acid compositions in the methanol extract of the rhizome. The percentage of total protein, total carbohydrates and total lipid contents were 16.27 ± 0.13, 20.43 ± 0.28 and 19.99 ± 0.13 respectively. The methonal extract of the rhizome was found to contain 20 different amino acids with varied quantities which are expressed in µg/g dry wt. Among amino acid compositions, Tryptophan (612.30 ± 0.115) was present in higher amount, whereas, serine (0.4467 ± 0.31) was present in lesser amounts. The study concluded that the rhizome of the Zingiber zerumbet was found to be a good source of nutraceutical agent.
