Abstract: Present study deals with the analysis of the current status of Physico-Chemical parameters of water samples collected monthly from four different monitoring stations of Dilawara reservoir of Dhar district, Madhya Pradesh during January 2017 to December 2018 by using different standard methods, procedures, and instruments.The water temperature, transparency and pH were measured in-situ by using 0.1scale Mercury thermometer, Sacchi disc and pocket type digital pH meter respectively. The remaining parameters were determined ex-situ in the laboratory as per the standards. The results indicated that most parameters were within the permissible limit   except for the pH, DO and COD which indicated the pollution in reservoir built for storing water to be used for irrigation, human consumption and pesiculture.The water quality index (WQI) calculated for the year 2017 and 2018 by computing mean values of 13 important parameters with the help of weighted Arithmetic method reveals that water quality is  in medium to bad range (WQI= 49 - 69).HenceDilawara reservoir, an important drinking water source of Dhar tehsil is not suitable for useunless treated prior to consumption. Therefore urgent and immediate actions are required for its propermanagement to restore the quality of the water andfor its long time surveillance.

Abstract: Viruses that infect bacteria are known as bacteriophages and can be used as biocontrol agents to complement antibiotics. The aim of the study was to isolate Vibrio cholerae lytic bacteriophages from environmental waters of different regions in Kenya that included: Lake Victoria, Coast, Nairobi and Central. A total of 140 environmental water samples were collected from ponds, rivers, lake, beaches, springs, boreholes, wells and Indian Ocean.  Pathogenic Vibrio cholerae strains isolated from some these sources were used as respective propagating strains for isolation of vibriophages. Identification of the Vibrio cholerae bacterial strains by Polymerase Chain reaction was through amplification and sequencing of partial 16S ribosomal RNA gene. In total, 15 Vibrio cholerae bacteriophages were isolated; nine from rivers, three from beaches and three from ponds using the double layer method of purification. Lytic spectrum confirmed that all the 15 bacteriophages were infective to both environmental and clinical Vibrio cholerae isolates. Further characterization by Transmission Electron Microscope assigned the vibriophages to order Caudovirales of Myoviridae family owing to their icosahedral capsid and contractile tails.  The average tail length, head diameter were 90nm and 79nm respectively. The current study has proved that vibriophages have established a niche in Kenyan environmental waters. The bacteriophages may have the potential for biocontrol of Vibrio cholerae bacterium.

Abstract: The advantage of producing synthetic seeds of Ficus carica L. gives a new perspective to plant breeders to see that biotechnology is actually facilitating in improving the quality and productivity of the crops. Ficus carica L.  is one of the first crop that have been grown by humans for economical purposes. Conventional propagation methods of Ficus carica L. through cuttings, grafting, and air-layering have been used since the beginning until now. Another alternative of propagating Ficus carica L. is through the production of synthetic seeds. The advantages of synthetic seeds production include various aspects such as production through aseptic tissue culture producing pathogen-free seeds, providing protection to enhance growth effectiveness in the external environment, and cloning that aimed for conservation and preservation as well as its in small size, easy to handle, to transport and also stored for specific purposes. The formation of consistent, uniformed and roundly shaped bead is influenced by the concentration of sodium alginate and the concentration of hydrated calcium chloride solution used. In this study, the optimal synthetic seeds of Ficus carica L. with consistent, strong, round and uniform size were successfully produced when 4% sodium alginate containing 1.0 mg/L Benzylaminopurine (BAP) was used as the explants’ encapsulation matrix. The synthetic seeds were germinated and new plantlets obtained were grown.

Abstract: Globally, fisheries and marine ecosystems are being exploited at a regular rate controlled by law. However, there is a dangerous activity by humans which contributes to the disruption of these systems. Illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing is one of the most serious threats to the health of the world's fisheries and oceans and to the security of the fishing trade. As demand increases and coastal fish stocks decline, ships are encouraged to take risks to pursue the ever-diminishing resources in the seas and oceans. The effects of this activity do not only reach a certain geographic area, but they also contribute to the decline of many different species. This affects marine ecosystems in general, spreading disruption throughout the connected systems quickly. The stability of these systems is achieved only by the interaction of each living organism with its environment, other species, and the non-living objects within the system. The risks of illegal fishing impact both individuals and countries as a whole. Statistics show that these negative activities contribute to the effects of food shortage, as well as directly impacting countries’ economies. Fortunately, countries have become aware of the danger this activity poses to both human and marine life. Many have created firm measures to deter these violations, establishing cooperative agreements at the international level and implementing other solutions that will be discussed in this literary review.

Abstract: A probiotic is a live microbial food supplement which beneficially affects the host animal by improving its intestinal microbial balance.  In the present study, we isolated probiotic Lactobacillus salivarius from cow curd. Pour plate technique was used to isolate the organisms. Samples were used directly and also diluted to 10-1, 10-2 and 10-3 using sterile peptone water. 1 ml aliquot of the samples and dilutions were plated into MRS (Man, Rogosa and Sharpe) agar (Oxoid LTD, Basingstoke, England) selective medium according to Dave and Shah,. The plates were incubated at 37°C for 3 days under aerobic conditions. All isolates were sub-cultured by streaking method to get pure cultures. Pure culture of specific probiotic isolate from the sample was identified on the basis of biochemical tests such as catalase, oxidase and IMVIC (indole, methyl-red, voges proskaur, citrate utilization) tests.  Gram-staining was carried out. Identification of isolates was carried out based on the method described by Sakazaki and Shimad Collins et al., (1989). The identified Lactobacillus species was confirmed through PCR reaction using genus specific primer.  The curd has suggested as a source of potential probiotic strain which has probiotic properties.
