Abstract: The study delved on improving and developing the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology Eco-park in Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija, Philippines into a tourist hub patterned after a feasibility study format with the application of some mathematical business simulation in excel spreadsheet, while introducing sensitivity analysis to predict future outcomes. The planned improvements, construction of new buildings and additional attractions/recreational facilities would necessitate an initial investment of P7+ million equivalent to U$157,000+ at the rate P45 to a dollar against the total development cost of P44+ million spread over a period of 5 years. The initial amount would be funded by the University, or thru a contractual agreement or Public-Private Partnership (PPP). Another P3 million cash would be infused on second year to sustain structure development; otherwise, the overall 5-year cash receipts would be enough for its financial requirements. Cash balances, income from operation, and the balance sheet indicated positive and steady financial performance. Return on investment is pegged at an average of 30+ percent annually, while payback period is less than five years. The application of sensitivity analysis under several discounted terms would still yield an encouraging business opportunity since such is only minimal and has only a slight effect in reference to its financial stability. Capacity building, a component of sustainability, as a way of endorsement in this study would further increase the eco-park’s productivity as it enhances human resource and organizational development, controlled processes, linkages with stakeholders and business partners, entrepreneurship, marketing and good governance practices included.

Abstract: The study investigated factors enhancing land use development and management for rehabilitated Namasanda small dam in Kanduyi Sub County of Bungoma County. This research investigation showed that the general utilization of the dam water by the community for growing crops was less than 40% which was low compared to over 40% used by the community for other social economic activities like livestock keeping and fish farming. In this study, the community’s capacity in terms of knowledge, material, monetary, organizational etc; and the community’s skill in terms of training, experience etc. in dam development and management were interrogated to determine how these factors influence land use from the rehabilitated dam. The social economic benefits that are derived from dam rehabilitation like livestock keeping, fish farming, water for cleaning/washing etc. were also interrogated to determine how they contribute to the social economy of the community resulting from the rehabilitation activities of the dam. Other factors including Government regulations, politics, funding, subsidies etc. were also studied to determine their influence on land use and the social economy of the community around Namasanda dam. The study adopted descriptive research survey. The sampling procedure was by simple random sampling approach and the data collection method involved use of questionnaires, interview schedules, observations, taking of photographs and document analysis. The data collected was cross tabulated with land use activities and were measured as low for land use below 0.25acres, moderate for land use between 0.25 to 0.5 acres and high for land use of between 0.5 to 1.0 acres or greater. The social economic activities derived from the dam activities together with strength and the management capacity of the community were measured as less than 40% for low, 41 – 70% for moderate and over 70% for high utilization. Information on literature review in this study was gathered from books, periodicals, internet and other relevant documents. The findings showed that 90.5% of the community indicated that increasing their capacity through training improved their skills for enhancing land use and other social economic activities. The community also indicated that funding and incentives were necessary for improved land use activities; and that modes of dam rehabilitation measures contributed to enhancing food security and the social economic activities derived from the dam after rehabilitation. The study concluded that building capacity of the community, providing them with funding and incentives contributed significantly to improved land use activities and corresponding social economical benefits that enhance food security from rehabilitation activities of small dams. This study therefore recommends that rehabilitation of small dams should include strengthening the capacity of the community, providing them with incentives and involving them fully in all the project phases. This will enhance land use activities and the accompanying social economic benefits that are derived from dam rehabilitation activities.

Abstract: The goal of this research was to ass’s factors that affect capital structure in non-listed firms in Thika town. The intention was to close the gap in empirical literature in respect to capital structure determinants in Kenya. In particular the main objectives were; evaluate whether, growth opportunities, profitability, tangibility and firm size affect the financial capital in any way. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The target sample was 49 top managers in 218 non-listed companies in Thika town. These managers were served with questionnaires. Only 35 of the 49 questionnaires were recovered. This was a recovery rate of 71% which was a good data sample for further analysis. The data was analyzed through descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Multiple regression analysis was employed to determine the effect of growth opportunities, profitability, and tangibility and firm size variables on the financial capital. The study found a negative relationship between firm size and capital structure, negative relationship between growth opportunity and capital structure, negative relationship between profitability and capital structure and positive relationship between tangibility and capital structure. The researcher concluded that in Thika town in Kenya profitability, tangibility, firm size and growth opportunities affected the capital structure of the non-listed firms. The study recommended that the managers and boards of directors are advised to make sure that they consider setting an optimal capital structure in their firms. They should further consider the size effect when making financing decisions. This findings supports the pecking order theory which postulate that firm must consider internal sources of finance followed by external debt and finally if financing become a real challenge issue equity as a last resort.

Abstract: This study aimed to determine the mediating effect of accountability climate on the relationship between transcendental leadership of school heads and institutional productivity of public elementary schools in Region XI. Stratified random sampling technique was used which included 391 teachers as respondents. Through non-experimental quantitative mediation analysis through medgraph, validated questionnaire, mean, regression techniques and pearson-r, results showed significant relationships between transcendental leadership of school heads, institutional productivity and accountability climate. There was a partial mediation on the effect of accountability climate on the relationship between transcendental leadership of school heads and institutional productivity. Accordingly, accountability climate is one of the reasons how transcendental leadership of school heads can influence institutional productivity. It cannot, however, completely account for the relationship between the two variables.

Abstract: Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) is a 500MWe pool type, sodium-cooled nuclear reactor, which is presently in an advanced stage of construction. Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor consists of Primary Sodium Circuit (PSC), Secondary Sodium Circuits (SSC), Safety Grade Heat Removal Circuits (SGDHRC) and Steam-Water Circuit (SWC). The primary sodium circuit removes the nuclear heat generated in the core and transfers it to the secondary sodium circuits through Intermediate Heat Exchangers (IHXs). The secondary sodium circuits, in turn, transfers the heat to steam/water circuit through Steam Generators (SGs). The decay heat is removed by sodium to sodium heat decay heat exchanger (DHX) and in turn sodium to air heat exchanger (AHX). The boundaries of sodium systems of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor is designed so as to have an extremely low probability of leakage, rapidly propagating failure and rupture under the static & dynamic loads expected during various operating conditions. The degradation of material properties (e.g. effect of sodium, temperature and irradiation), transients, residual stresses, flaw size etc. are the important considerations, which were taken into account. Austenitic stainless steels of grade 316LN were used as major structural materials for IHX & DHX and modified 9Cr-1 Mo was used as the principal material of construction for the SG & AHX. Most of the Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) components are thin walled and require manufacturing in separate nuclear clean halls to achieve high levels of quality. The welding standards and acceptance criteria of PFBR equipment are more stringent compared to ASME/other International standards. Various control measures and quality assurance are instituted during each and every stage of raw material procurement, welding, fabrication, non-destructive examinations, testing, handling, erection and post erection preservation to ensure high degree of reliability against failure for the design service life of 40 years. This paper highlights the challenges involved in welding and fabrication of various heat exchangers for 500MWe Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor.

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to know the different factors that are related with the retention and turnover of the faculty members of Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite Campus. The study used descriptive-survey research design method since it is more appropriate to identify the concerns of the teaching personnel. The data for this study used a researcher-made questionnaire with input from books in the areas of human resource management and interviews with some faculty and school administrators. The total respondents are one hundred full-time and part-time teaching personnel of Lyceum of the Philippines University-Cavite Campus. Based on the data gathered, the researcher has drawn the following conclusions: The individual applied at LPU-Cavite Campus because of the convenience in terms of accessibility of transportation to their residence, and they believed that they had a chance to develop their career in this institution. The school’s reputation and standing in the academic community were also considered by the applicants. The eye catching structure of the building does not get too much attention on the part of the applicant since it landed on the seventh spot. Teaching personnel enjoy working at LPU-Cavite campus because of the feeling of belongingness since they have established harmonious working relationship with their colleagues. The faculty also considered the good working condition that the management provides, and the fair treatment by of superior. The last consideration why they enjoy working is that their expected compensation is achieved. With this, teaching personnel give much weight on harmonious relationship and less on monetary values. The faculty may intend to leave LPU-Cavite Campus if there are better opportunities for career development offered by other institutions. They also leave the institution if the management does not offer job security and there is a better compensation package offered by other institutions. The teaching personnel also seeks recognition for their satisfactory performance. They may leave the institution if they did not get much-needed support from the management. Another reason for leaving if they may change residence and that would affect travel time. Landed in the last spot reason for leaving is, if the working relationship with colleagues gets worse. Based on the findings and conclusions, the researchers recommend the following: LPU should provide staff room for rent (minimal fee) to teaching personnel whose residence is located distantly from the academe. LPU should regularly remind their constituents that LPU’s name should be protected at all times. LPU should encourage mandatory participation of full-time and part-time faculty in every activity to encourage familiarity among teaching personnel. Team building for the faculty per college should also be conducted regularly at the end of academic year to establish camaraderie among themselves. LPU should maintain good working conditions (functional facilities and free from work pressure). LPU should provide continuous training for superior regarding coaching and mentoring to be familiar with different applications on how to establish acceptable superior-subordinate relationship. LPU should implement rotation of appointment since faculty are expecting for career development/movement. Rotation of appointment for supervisory level position should be done every three (3) years so that qualified personnel may have a chance for career movement and others would be inspired to do their best to be qualified for the upper level position. The maximum term of individual in supervisory position should be within the period of three years (3). Since the management shows transparency in declaring the number of students enrolled, the management should also be transparent in declaring other operational expenses incurred (utilities, equipment, supplies, maintenance, etc.) so that teaching personnel will not expect that wage/salary is not the only expenditure incurred by the institution. The management should provide a copy of written policies (faculty manual) to teaching personnel for them to know the benefits and compensation packages that the faculty will receive in-case they will obtain regular employment. This written reference would serve as a basis for the faculty if the management offers job security. The orientation given to the newly hired teaching personnel is not enough to identify the job security offers by the institution. Similar studies will be done after five (5) years to anticipate again the reasons why teaching personnel may leave LPU-Cavite Campus.

Abstract: This study described the business environment of selected direct selling companies. The internal environmental factors focused on the organization and management, marketing, technical, and financial aspect while the external factors focused on legal business requirements, social, economic, and environmental factors.
Further, the study assessed the levels of satisfaction of direct selling managers and dealers in terms of products, product promotion strategies, facilities, security/safety, and staff-dealer relations. It likewise tested this null hypothesis of no significant difference in the levels of satisfaction between managers and dealers based on the mentioned variables.
Six direct selling companies were chosen as subject of this study based on these considerations - have been in existence for five years or more; offer similar product lines; and considered as top direct selling business in the Philippines.
