Abstract: This study aimed to determine the level of utilization of ICT application tools, level of effectiveness in the implementation of ICT application tools, and the leadership style of academic heads, academic teachers, and administrative staff at Iloilo State College of Fisheries Main Campuses for Academic Year 2016-2017. The present study was a mixed method of research that employed descriptive-correlational and qualitative method of research. A total of 110 participants were employed in this study that made use of various instruments to gather data—questionnaires and interview guide, which were either standardized or validated by experts. Results revealed that academic heads have employed democratic leadership style. ICT application tools were highly utilized in different offices, in which, those with academic functions have very highly effective level of ICT utilization.  Authoritarian leaders are very highly effective in terms of the level of effectiveness on ICT application tools utilization while transactional leaders are very highly effective in the use of ICT application tools.  Based on the results of the study, Barrido’s Leadership Style in ICT Efficiency Usage Theory was conceptualized that states: Democratic leaders were not as effective as the transactional leaders in the use of ICT application tools but they encourage their followers to do so as evidenced by the academic heads’ very highly effective use of them.  Recommendations in the light of the results of the study were made.

Title: Leadership Style in the Utilization and Effectiveness of ICT Application Tools by Educational Management

Abstract: The study looked into the abilities of business, management and accounting majors who are graduating students in a state university. Self-assessment of students and their Instructors and Professors’ ratings were surveyed on the perceived level of ability. The study utilized the descriptive methods of research, making use of information gathered from 12 Instructors/Professors handle graduating, and the 207 graduating students, as basis of their readiness to ASEAN Labor Pool. The following statistical tools were used: Frequency count and percentage computation were used in determining the profile, Analysis of Variance, t-test, Pearson r Moment Correlation, Chi-square.

Base on the data gathered from the students and faculty readiness of Graduating Students they have lowest weighted value obtained on conflict management but it doesn’t mean that the graduating are not capable in managing conflict because at their level of expertise. Both Instructors and Students must possess positive drive for motivation towards career objectives and future plans through personal encouragement, confidence, and constructive criticism. Rest assured graduates from the University are expected to be socially aware and advocates for common good of the society.

Abstract: The study looked into graduating students’ readiness a skills inventory. The study utilized descriptive correlation methods of research. Studies result the students have difficulties in conflict management; they want more career path development. Students admitted that they want to have more development for their career path; students rated ability to receive training and ready to learn. The Intellectual aspect among the Graduating students being the lowest in the survey for the reasons that they don’t have idea things happen in the corporate world, and they have fear and doubt to their knowledge that they earned in school in handling duties and responsibilities in the real corporate world and will never be an alarming result considering that the study is geared towards the positive relationship of the graduating students with the society, as they are prepared and equipped by the school. In contrast, reflected as the highest, is an outlook in life telling us that the graduating students are ready to get involve with the society and they have their outlooks in life that after their graduation they can get a job and they earn. While leadership, conscience, achievements, physical,  punctuality, emotional warmth, personal relation, and communication, quality and quantity of work, which are considered important  elements or variables for work harmoniously follows.

Abstract: The study looked into microfinancing in rural areas its sustainability. Surveymethod of research was used. Borrowers of the studied rural banks were also randomly selected and interviewed using a survey instrument. Rural banks offering microfinance loans have common charges levied to borrowers. The respondents of the study are limited only to rural banks offering microfinance loans. Results showed that collection rate from microfinance loans of these banks declined in a span of three years. This lead to rural banks adopting strategies in collection namely group back-up and withdrawals of clients saving to cope their amortization. Respondents are entirely vendors thus payment of loans is determined through sales performance. Other reasons include occurrence of typhoon and illness of the vendor as borrower. Rural banks must also design contingencies on the aspect of the borrowers other than Loan management model that ensures loan funds are invested directly in productive business must be carefully monitored among personnel to increase bank measures on default payments.

Abstract: Banks, Small and Medium Enterprises bread and butter of every employees they render their services to reach organizations objective and goal for profitability, thus organizations provide employees good benefits. This study looked into Employee Satisfaction and Productivity: The case of Banks and SMEs, the study utilized descriptive correlation methods of research. There 172 respondents involved in the study. The statistical tools used were frequency, percentage T-test, Pearson r, product moments correlation. The study revealed that the employment practices of the employers were similar when analyzed by educational qualification, gender, age, work experience, and marital status. The employees’ level of job satisfaction and productivity were very high. There was a significant relationship between employment practices and job satisfaction and productivity. However there is no significant relationship between employment practices and job satisfaction when disturbed by educational qualification, gender, age, and marital status but significant relationship existed when disturbed by working experience. There is no significant relationship between employment practices and level of productivity of employees when disturbed by educational qualification, gender, age, working experience and marital status. Employers maintain their employment practices to sustain the high level of job satisfaction and productivity of employee.

Abstract: The general objective of this study is to assess the effect of procurement process on the implementation of county government infrastructural projects in Kenya, a case of Kajiado County. The study was based on four theoretical foundations. These include: Agency Theory; Evaluation Theory; Theory of Public Participation and; Resource-Based Theory. This study uses the descriptive survey design. The population for this study comprised of county public servants targeted from public servants working in the ministries of public works, roads and transport, finance and economic planning. These departments were purposively selected since they directly deal with infrastructural projects. The directors and departmental heads and staff from these departments totaling 84 individuals were targeted. The study used total population sampling techniques to sample all the 84 individuals targeted. Data was collected through use of structured questionnaires. The questionnaire was pretested to ascertain validity and reliability through a pilot of 10 individuals.  Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze data from the structured questionnaires. Several statistical tests such as:  descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages and weighted means) and; inferential statistics (Multiple Regression Analysis, Analysis of Variance and Pearson Correlation) were carried out. Results were then presented in tables. The study findings show that the implementation of infrastructural projects in the county is greatly affected by procurement processes in the county. The study recommends that the county government should ensure that procurement processes are transparent.

Abstract: There has been increased poor performance of textile industry in the recent past. This has been largely attributed to non-compliance of safety standards in the textile industry. The work environment consists of factors which introduce new dimensions to health, causing diseases and injuries which include, work accidents and exposure to hazards. In this regard, the purpose of this study was to determine the influence of worker’s knowledge of safety standards on employees performance in textile manufacturing  companies in selected counties in Kenya, The study population included all the textile manufacturing companies in export processing zone which are 22 under EPZ program. This study sampled 400 respondents; selection based on random sampling. Individual respondents were sampled using systematic random sampling technique. The first respondent was sampled using simple random sampling then the rest were sampled using an interval of 7.This study adopted a descriptive cross sectional research design. Data was collected using questionnaire and key informants interview. Data was revised, coded for computerized data entry. Statistical techniques that was used was Pearson correlation and stepwise analysis. Statistical methods applied include descriptive statistics (i.e. frequency percent, mean, and standard deviation) and tests of significance (Analysis of variance) which was done using the statistical package for Social Science (SPSS version 22.0) to ascertain relationship between independent and dependent variable. P-values were considered as statistically significant when less than 0.05. The relationship between workers’ knowledge of safety standards and employee performance carried out using Pearson moment correlation showed that  there was a significant positive relationship (r = 0.823, P = 0.0001). High level of knowledge of the workers on safety standards resulted into better performance of the employees in an organization.

Abstract: Review of literature on the relationship between organizational culture traits and competitive advantage revealed the need for further research in this area focusing on the microfinance industry. This study aimed at investigating the influence of organizational culture traits on competitive advantage of microfinance banks in Kakamega County. The adaptability trait of organizational culture was adopted as the independent variable of the study while competitive advantage was the dependent variable. The study sought to test the null hypothesis which posited that cultural adaptability has no significant influence on competitive advantage of microfinance banks in Kakamega County. The target population of the study consisted of managers, supervisors and support staff in all branches of Kenya Women Finance Trust (KWFT) and SMEP microfinance banks within Kakamega County.  The data for this study comprised primary data sourced from 76 employees of the microfinance banks using questionnaires. The findings showed that organizational culture traits have positive and significant influence on the competitive advantage of microfinance banks in Kakamega County thus rejecting the null hypothesis. The study recommended that microfinance banks should fully exploit organizational culture traits as drivers of competitive advantage in the industry.

Abstract: Logistics management is the part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers' requirements. Logistics management activities typically include inbound and outbound transportation management, fleet management, warehousing, materials handling, order fulfillment, logistics network design, inventory management, supply/demand planning and management of third party logistics services providers. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the performance of logistics management in an organization. Four specific objectives formed the basis of study and these were: to examine the effect of information technology, infrastructure, staff competency and custom clearance on the performance of logistics management in an organization. The theories studied included resource based review theory and theory of constraints. The study employed descriptive and inferential research designs. The target population for the study was 108 respondents from respective departments from KPA and other key players in the port. The sample size for the study was 85 respondents which was calculated from the target population using Neyman formula. Data collection was done using questionnaires method. Data analysis and interpretation was based on descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics mainly regression analysis and Pearson correlation which was employed during analysis of data. From the finding, information technology was believed to be responsible to be a catalyst for the proper changes that are taking place at the port. Staff competency is one of the issue that helps the entire organization to run smoothly in regards to manpower for the entire activities taking place. Infrastructure in any port capacity they have to invest heavily in modern and mechanized infrastructure that facilitates faster movement of cargoes and products from one point to another. It is recommended that for the performance of logistics management to be effective adequate investment in ICT to facilitate flow of information in response to ever changing customer tastes preferences is central to any business and use of technology is essential to any business that wants to gain competitive advantage. The organization should come up with a policy on the how well to guide the managers and implementers of these activities since they are the mirror into the business competition. The study recommends more investment in this area. Like in the infrastructure, a policy should be put in place on what to be included in the infrastructure and the benefits be communicated to the stakeholders, including both the country and the citizens. The process of custom clearance should be enhanced by integrating all systems to ensure a smooth and efficient logistic delivery at the port. It is also recommended that there is also need to reduce, simplify and standardize trade documentation to reduce cost of trade.

Title: FACTORS INFLUENCING LOGISTICS PERFORMANCE IN MOMBASA PORT

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to determine factors affecting implementation of public procurement and asset disposal act 2015 in Kenya. Regulated public procurement plays a very vital role to the economy of Kenya. However, a report by Rapid Response Initiative established that though most of the public procurement reforms have been achieved and procurement policies and institutions are in place, the level of implementation of such policies by the state corporations is still low. This study therefore sought to determine the effect of procurement funding, procurement staff competence, procurement leadership and enforcement on the implementation of public procurement regulations in Kenya.. The study adopted descriptive research design. The target population is Kenya Ferry services Limited with a workforce of 320 employees. The study adopted stratified random sampling in selecting only participants that were directly involved in the implementation of public procurement regulations in Kenya Ferry services Limited. The population was sub divided into clusters to help in selecting sample size that is representative of the population. A total of (5) employee from procurement department of Kenya Ferry services Limited was therefore incorporated as the sample. The study adopted a descriptive research design in order to provide a framework to examine current conditions, trends and status of events. Data was collected and analysed with the help of a social science statistical package (SPSS 024). The study found out that 18.7% of the variations in the dependent variable (implementation of public procurement regulations) were explained by the independent variable (procurement funding, procurement staff competence, procurement leadership, procurement regulations) as measured by the goodness of fit (R-square). ANOVA test showed that the p value (0.000) is less than α (0.05) thus indicating that the result is significant. The study found out that there was a significant relationship between procurement funding, procurement leadership, and procurement regulations. However, there was no significant relationship between implementation of public procurement regulations and procurement staff competence.

This study focused on 19 public chartered universities and 18 private chartered universities. Using stratified sampling, 249 leaders were selected to represent the total population. The study used a mixed research approach of exploratory and descriptive designs. The questionnaire was used to gather relevant information from the respondents. Data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Linear regression curves were developed and these revealed positive correlations between autocratic leadership style and quality assurance in institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The study recommended that leaders of institutions of higher learning be trained on academic leadership.

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to examine the effect of transactional leadership style on quality assurance in institutions of higher learning in Kenya. This study focused on 19 public chartered universities and 18 private chartered universities. Using stratified sampling, 249 leaders were selected to represent the total population. The study used a mixed research approach of exploratory and descriptive designs. The questionnaire was used to gather relevant information from the respondents. Data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Linear regression curves were developed and these revealed positive correlations between transactional leadership style and quality assurance in institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The study recommended that leaders who prefer transactional leadership style need to acknowledge that an institution of higher learning cannot be equated with business sector as this may water quality assurance. Use of strategies, governance and language borrowed from the for-profit world may cause faculty and other key players to reject change.   Institutional leaders need to realize that market-driven forces and the drive for revenue and profits may obstruct goals such as quality and equity.  At the same time the approach of transactional leadership style may lead to change in the face of academic organization to a business set up leading to dysfunctional sector.

Data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Linear regression curves were developed and these revealed positive correlations between strategic leadership style and quality assurance in institutions of higher learning in Kenya. The study recommended that leaders of institutions of higher learning be trained on the use of appropriate strategies.

Abstract: The rise in digital technology and marketing has altered the way businesses are done around the globe. Banking operations and services have become ubiquitous through digital marketing and its platforms. The study appraised the adoption of digital marketing in Nigerian banking industry. The survey design was adopted in this study. 15 staff each was randomly drawn from 7 commercial banks purposively from Nigeria. Out of 105 copies of questionnaire administered, 95 responses were used for the study. Correlation and regression models were used in analyzing data obtained. Among the findings is that digital marketing significantly and positively impact on customers’ patronage. The researchers recommend that banks should continue to sensitize customers on the availability of their digital marketing platforms to increase patronage, bank managers should ensure that customers get feedback on their inquiries and treat their complaints as fast as possible to sustain the customers’ patronage and confidence in the bank.

Abstract: The study sought to examine the relationship between employee involvement and employee performance of part time lecturers in public universities in Kenya. The study adopted descriptive survey research design to collect data from a sample of 60 part time lecturers from four public universities in the western region of Kenya. The study used structured questionnaires to gather information from the respondents. The sampling technique used was stratified sampling and simple random sampling. It was analyzed descriptively using percentages, mean and standard deviation and also inferentially using regression and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation test. Employee involvement was found to be strongly positively correlated to employee performance (r=0.665; p<0.01). Employee involvement accounted for 44.2 % of the total variance in employee performance of part time lecturers in public universities. Thus the study found that employee involvement had a great influence on employee performance. The study recommends that public universities should adopt employee involvement programs to drive performance, growth and competitiveness on the regional and also the global market.
