Abstract: In this study, an experimental tests and numerical analysis is carried out on hybrid/ weld-bonded single-lap joints, in comparison with the spot welded and adhesively bonded joints. A low carbon steel D513 and EDD materials are used. Experimental tests have been carried out for spot weld, adhesive bonded and weld bonded specimens to find the tensile –shear strength of the joints. Epoxy adhesive Terokal 4555B is used to fnd out the maximum load bearing capacity of adhesive bonded and weld bonded joints.  Same models are modeled in hyper mesh and analysed with the Ls-Dyna software to validate the experimental results. Using this finite element model, the stress distributions were simulated in terms of Von mises stress in the overlap region. The force–displacement curves of the test results are compared with those of the simulation results.. The effect of changing overlap length showed different strength advantages, upto 26% compared to the spot welded joints and 4% over the adhesive bonded joint.

Abstract: hybrid vehicles are gaining popularity now-a-days due to their environment friendliness and better mileage. Hybrid cars are now even available in market for public use and provide better performance than fossil fuel based cars. This paper presents a hybrid vehicle that can be used in competitions like go-kart racing where mileage is a major concern. Firstly, the components of the hybrid system are discussed followed by the working approach of the vehicle.

Abstract: The global economy is dependent on many factors in which oil/gas prices are one of the most dominating factors. The cost of drilling an oil/gas well plays a vital role in the assessment of final oil/gas prices. Any drilling difficulties and drilling time delays increases the drilling cost. In present, stuck pipe is the main culprit for drilling time delays and generating drilling problems. When formation rock swells, the inside dia of the well bore decreases and the larger parts of the drill strings get stuck. Same drastic problem occurs when a key-seat is generated while drilling a deviated well. The only solution to overcome this problem is to ream out the well bore section of small dia i.e. well bore enlargement. This short note presents a new technique for this well bore enlargement by a reamer that is basically a turbo machine operated by drilling fluid flow. This technique eliminates the limitations of conventional reamers, those does not give required results when well bore is deviated. In conventional solution the drill string is not permitted to rotate in a deviated well bore but this new proposed technique is able to provide a solution in a deviated well bore too. So this proposed technique is a time savior, money savior and easy to establish.

Abstract:  Nigeria is a major producer of groundnut in the world with an average annual production of about one million tons. Groundnut production generates large amount of process residues such as groundnut shell. These groundnut residues which are currently of low utility value in Nigeria are potentially viable options for energy productions. However, these residues after harvest and processing must be gathered, processed and densified in order to facilitate efficient handling, transportation and usage.  The experimental procedure involved in the development of a bottle jack press which has the capacity of producing three briquettes pieces per hour. Groundnut shell were pressed hydraulically in a compression compartment (360 x 105 x 155 cm³) compaction pressures of 1.5, 3.6 and 4.5N/m², with binder ratio level of 15, 20 and 25% and particle size of 0.4, 1.8 and 2.7mm.  Briquettes were produced from using residue particles mixed with cassava starch binder and moisture contents of experimental substrates were determined using ASAE standard.  The ultimate and proximate analyses of the produced briquettes were carried out using ASTM standard method. Experiments were carried out to determine density, durability, indices, compressive strengths and heating value of briquettes produced. The produced briquettes rare densities between 356.3 and 632Kg/m3 The optimum moisture content, compressive strengths, compaction ratio, relaxation ratio and heating value for groundnut shell briquettes are 11.25%, 1.59KN/m², 16.33J/kg, 4.3 and 1.45 respectively. The briquette properties are quite good with resistance to mechanical disintegration high value of relaxed density and low value of relaxation ratio obtained for the briquette imply their potentials as energy materials. ASL content = 1.3, Moisture Content = 12.0, Calorific value Kcal/kg = 4200

Abstract: An Experimental Investigation on Inline Pulse Tube (PTC) was carried out using a Rotary Valve.  Investigation is to study the cool down period for basic pulse tube model with varying speed of the rotary valve as well as the flow rate, using compressed air as working medium under a pressure of 6 bars.  A no load cool down temperature of 258K was obtained.

Abstract: An Experimental Investigation on a Coaxial Pulse Tube with Basic Pulse tube as well as Double inlet Orifice arrangement has been carried out with electrically operated solenoid valve driven by a Pulse Timer. Investigation is to study the cool down period for Basic Pulse Tube model and Double Inlet configuration with varying Pulse timing. With Air as working medium under a pressure of 6bars, a cool down capacity of 239K, With Nitrogen as working medium under a pressure of 15 bars, a cool down capacity of 229K is obtained on no load condition and a cool down capacity of 261K in Double inlet configuration with an operating pressure of 6bars of air is achieved.

Abstract: A novel mixed mode fracture test specimen - a semi-circular disc with an edge crack under three point bending is the focus of this investigation. finite element modelling using a commercial FEA software(ANSYS) is presented to compute accurate mixed mode stress intensity factors(KI, KII) as a function of crack lengths (a/R) and support locations (S2= αR). Choosing the Strain Energy Density Theory of fracture and the material properties of PMMA Poly(methyl meth acrylate), predicted crack growth direction and fracture load are graphically presented. These are co-related with available mixed mode fracture test results. comparisons are also made with candidate fracture criteria.

Abstract: A tie rod is a slender structural rod that is used as a tie and capable of carrying tensile and compressive loads. As the ratio of its length to the radius of gyration of its cross section is normally quite large, it would likely buckle under the action of compressive forces. When it becomes worn out, steering will become more difficult there by producing clunking noise. The vehicle will also typically be pulling or (dragging) to either side (left or right). Thus the aim of the project is to analyze tie rod for active to improve the mass and buckling load of tie rod. The objectives of this study are to carry out the theoretical, experimental and modal analysis of tractor Tie rod to find different modes shapes by analysis FE software.

Abstract: The energy absorption capacity of vehicles and protective structures has become more important due to ever stringent safety requirement. As an example, increasing focus has been paid to the use of energy absorbing devices in order to overcome the adverse effect of an impact load. Many devices have been designed to study impact energy absorption during a collision and hence protect the vehicle components and passengers. As decades passed on, various types of energy absorbers have been placed in vehicle structures, particularly cars as a significant number of road causalities have been caused by car crashes. Research shows that axial impacts account for approximately 35-40 % of all impacts on a vehicle. In response to this, a comprehensive study have been undertaken to experimentally & numerically investigate axial crushing responses, energy absorption performance of empty & foam filled aluminum concentric tubes with different density of foam. The study was extensively conducted using finite element techniques in conjunction with an experimental set-up& application of available theory.

Abstract: Surface coating is one of the most useful and economical way to improve the surface properties of the materials. For this circumstance, Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) is a unique method for coating of thin films. In this work coating is performed by magnetron sputtering deposition method. The properties of coating are varied with some of the process parameters like bias voltage, total gas pressure, volume of nitrogen gas, coating time, substrate temperature, substrate rotation and substrate roughness. Hence in this present work the characteristics of Chromium nitride (CrN) thin films on tool steel (grade: 6959) were investigated as function of Substrate temperature and Nitrogen gas flow rate. The CrN deposited films were categorized with X-ray diffraction (XRD) to disclose the development of different phases. The adhesive strength of the coating was studied by scratch tester and the microhardness of the thin film was determined by microhardness testing machine. Further, Optimization of the thin film coating is done by Response Surface Methodology (RSM).

Abstract: A well-defined and Systematic methodology is essential to reducing extra man movement (MURA) and deleting the overburden (MURI), which in turn has considerable influence on the cost reduction of industry. Pneumatic Pedal Pusher is the equipment used for the operation, Break Oil Leakage checking in function inspection area at Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The equipment is used for the confirmation of brake oil leakage as by operating the pneumatic cylinder and pushing the brake and accelerator pedals of car, and then the equipment is taken off after completion of process. In this paper the Pokayoke design and development is done in the Kaizen area at Toyota Kirloskar Motors to eliminate the extra process (MURA) and idle time of worker.

Abstract: A well-defined and Systematic methodology is essential for to eliminate the problem for recoding the punched frame number data at chassis assembly area, which in turn has considerable influence on the correct confirmation of punched frame number data. Metallic kanban clip us the type of jig used for clipping the E-kanban Card to the frame as after completion of the frame umber punching for Innova Vehicle in frame number punching area at Toyota Kirloskar Motors. The equipment is used for the clipping purpose and jig will go under several processes like spot welding, Robot welding and PTED(ED-Coating) with the E-kanban card. In this paper the Pokayoke design and development is done in the Kaizen area at Toyota Kirloskar Motors to eliminate the loosing of punched frame number data for Innova Vehicle.

Abstract: Shortening design and manufacturing lead times while maintaining product quality requires careful planning of the design process. This paper describes a new design used at a major automobile manufacturer to create a simple, flexible process to do just that for their engine design group and investigated the company's existing design and manufacturing process, identified areas for improvement, and synthesized mechanisms and machines to achieve those improvements. While this car manufacturer currently designs world class engines, they felt a need to reduce their time to market. As part of this overall effort, they identified their engine manufacturing process as one for examination and improvement. Manufacturing  has  been  influenced  by  trade  liberalization,  global  competition, market  fragmentation,  technological  innovation  and  the  demands  of  more sophisticated  consumers.  In response to these pressures, manufacturers are incorporating more flexibility and technology in their production practices. These features have become a trademark of world-class corporations. An issue of importance in this strategic decision  is  whether  the  process  should  be  transferred  without  modification  or adopted in some way for transfer . Implementing this design of manufacturing process is one of the lengthiest, expensive and complex tasks a firm is undertaking.

Abstract: This project involves a detailed study on the “HYDROGEN ENHANCED COMBUSTION ENGINE”. Internal Combustion Engines are used widely in present generation. The internal combustion engine is an engine in which the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. In an internal combustion engine (ICE) the expansion of the high temperature and high pressure gases produced by combustion apply direct force to some component of the engine. Our Project has been undertaken at Hero Moto Corp in Boll arum which is a very reputed  in service centre on behalf of Hero Organization which is specialized in improving the fuel efficiency & to reduce the NOX & CO emission This project consists of a small water tank, pump, microcontroller unit, engine set up and fuel injector. The microcontroller unit is used to setting the water injection period. The pump is used to suction the water in to deliver the fuel injector. The 12 volt fuel injector is used to inject the water in to the cylinder. This 12v fuel injector is controlled by the microcontroller unit. In Our Project we will inject the water by which the removal of the carbon deposits takes place in the combustion chamber by which the life span of the engine is improved. By these methods we would be improving the efficiency of an I.C Engine.
