Abstract: Man in his lifetime, uses energy in one form or the other. In fact whatever happens in nature, results, out of the conversion of energy in one form or the other? The blowing of the wind, the formation of the clouds and the flow of water are a few examples that stand testimony to this fact. Of late, erratic and perfunctory usage of energy has resulted in an energy crisis, and there is a need to develop methods of optimal utilization, which will not only ease the crisis but also preserve the environment. This attempts to show how man has been utilizing energy and to explore prospects of optimizing the same.  Researches show that the world has already had its enough shares of its energy resources. Fossil fuels pollute the environment. Nuclear energy requires careful handling of both raw as well as waste material. The focus now is shifting more and more towards the renewable sources of energy, which are essentially, non-polluting. The main sources of renewable energy in India are biomass, biogas, solar, wind and hydro power.

Abstract: The purpose of this research paper is to develop an understanding that how to build a solar water geyser (SWG) that provides hot water during winter season and distilled water during summer. Calculations were the initial steps to determine the area, size and capacity of storage tank. The amount of solar radiations falling in different areas and different seasons is different. Therefore after calculations, the physical model may have sight differences from theoretical results. The solar geyser used is passive type because there is no external pump and flow is due to gravity and thermo-siphoning. The inclination angle of the solar collector can be changed as it is made adjustable by using a new concept of screw jack as used in raising cars and trucks. The solar geyser consists of copper tubes painted dull black because of the fact that black color absorbs maximum amount of radiations. The solar energy is allowed to be entrapped in the collector as it is laminated with glass and convection of cold air is prevented and the warm water is not allowed to lose most of its thermal energy, this procedure is also called “green house effect”. There is a black flat plate so the maximum sunlight can be absorbed by the back side of the tubes also. The storage tank has a capacity of 80 liters which is almost satisfactory to fulfill the demand of one family. There is also a calculated thermal insulation of the tank that prevents hot water from becoming cold at nights or low temperatures. Therefore there is no consumption of either electricity or natural gas. This geyser can be used as an economical mass product and installed in domestic as well as different industries also. As solar geyser needs very little or no maintenance, therefore it could save economy of a nation to a great extent.

Abstract: Refrigeration and Air conditioning is a system which consumes more energy to produce cooling effect. In Automobile, Engine cooling system is necessary for proper work of Engine. Human Being give's a market to the comfort system, so need an air conditioning in the vehicle with minimum energy consumption. Automobile Engine produces a big amount of heat which has to liberate in the atmosphere. Again it should be proper to get better work of engine. By using an ammonia water vapour absorption system there is a double cooling effect. Heat produced in the system get liberated from condenser which give's engine cooling effect. Again vapours of ammonia get compressed in generator and produce high pressure. Evaporator produces cooling effect in the vehicle. Such a way production of double cooling effect in vehicle is efficient system. Ultimately by using engine surface as a heat Generator for vapour absorption system energy consumption takes place. This increases overall Engine efficiency.

Abstract: A transient analysis for the thermo elastic contact problem of the disk brakes with heat generation is performed using the finite element analysis. To analyze the thermo elastic phenomenon occurring in the disk brakes, the occupied heat conduction and elastic equations are solved with contact problems. The numerical simulation for the thermo elastic behavior of disk brake is obtained in the repeated brake condition. The computational results are presented for the distribution of heat flux and temperature on each friction surface between the contacting bodies. Also, thermo elastic instability (TIE) phenomenon (the unstable growth of contact pressure and temperature) is investigated in the present study, and the influence of the material properties on the thermo elastic behaviors (the maximum temperature on the friction surfaces) is investigated to facilitate the conceptual design of the disk brake system. Based on these numerical results, the thermo elastic behaviors of the carbon-carbon composites with excellent mechanical properties are also discussed.

Abstract: The conventional engineering technologies such as computer aided geometric design and computer aided manufacturing systems are used to design and create physical objects from digital models. The reverse of this procedure i.e. transforming the real physical objects into a digital description is referred as reverse engineering. Surface reconstruction is the problem of recovering 3D shapes. It arises in a wide variety of applications such as CAD design, data visualization, virtual reality, medical imaging, computer animation, computer vision, computer graphics, scientific computing etc. In this paper, GA optimization approach is applied in order to reconstruct B-spline surface from a set of 3D data points. Surface reconstruction consists of data collection, data pre-processing, surface parameterization and surface fitting. In the present work, the 3D data points are obtained by cad modelling using MATLAB for a known object shapes. Data Pre-processing is used to arrange the data points in a proper sequence. Surface Parameterization is used for the determination of all relevant surface data such as knot vectors, control points. GA optimization approach is applied to optimize the location of control points i.e. proper placement of control points. GA is used because it constitutes a class of search algorithms especially suited to solving complex optimization problems. Genetic algorithm is a robust stochastic based search method and it maintains a population of potential solutions. The fitting surface is calculated by least squares through SVD (singular value decomposition) method. The SVD method is used because of its robustness and it provides good quality numerical answers. The proposed method yields good results and provide fine accuracy and flexibility with minimum computational effort.

Title: B-Spline Surface Reconstruction by Control Point Optimization using Genetic Algorithm

Abstract: Effects of Cu additions on tensile properties of Al-6Si-0.5Mg cast alloy at different strain rates were studied. The solution treated Cu containing alloys (0.5 – 4 wt %) were aged isochronally for 1 hour at temperatures up to 300^oC.The uniaxial tension test was carried out in a standard tensile test machine at strain rate ranging from 10^–4 to 10^–2 s^–1 in order to investigate the effects of Cu on tensile properties at these strain rates. Tensile strength was found to increase with ageing temperature and the maximum being attained at peak aged condition (1 hr at 225^oC). The additions of Cu resulted in an increase in tensile strength and 2 wt% Cu addition showed maximum strength all over the experimental strain rates and ageing temperatures. Evaluations of tensile properties at the three different strain rates (10^-4, 10^-3 & 10^-2s^-1) showed that they affected the tensile properties significantly. The strength was better at higher strain rate but ductility was poor. The fracture surfaces of the broken specimens showed that both ductile and ductile-brittle mixed fracture depending on strain rates and allowable Cu concentrations
