Abstract: At present, the world is facing a huge energy crisis where demand of energy keeps on increasing while resources are scarcer and prices are constantly increasing. Hence, the Indian government has emphasized more on power saving utilities. For instance, the alarming growth of LPG consumptions has led to alternative such as induction cooking. The Induction Industry uses stranded copper wires extensively but these wires are being manually stranded which is a time consuming and tedious task. The aim of this project is to solve this problem by designing and fabricating a copper wire stranded machine which will strand copper wires automatically and simultaneously spool it. The machine is also designed for multipurpose applications involving stranding of materials like rope, metal wires, yarn, etc., The stranded copper wires are also used in wiring, electrical and data cables, as conductors in power transmission applications.

Abstract: The 3D printing technology is a well-known technology across the world and this is one of the most rapidly growing technology. This technology certainly offers us a great advances in many different fields in our life. Medicine, industrial buildings, education and the automotive sectors are just some of the areas where 3D printing technology promises a revolution. 4D printing technology is the method of 3D technology printing where the fourth dimension is the time. This paper presents a comprehensive study of the 4D printing technology and includes the practical concepts, the materials used a with a focus towards it applications in industry sector. Also, in this paper, the immediate future expectations of 4D printing technology were listed.

Abstract: This study aims to analyze Pressure Losses in Separating Flow from Variations in Connection Angles Y. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Fluid Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Hasanuddin University, by first preparing equipment and research materials. In this study the independent variables used are the flow rate (Q) before and after passing the pipe joint Y and the variation of the joint angle Y (α). dependent variables are the Reynolds number (Re), the coefficient of loss (Loss Coefficients) (K3-1, K3-2) and the amount of pressure loss (head loss) (hk). The results of the study concluded that; (1) Changes in Angle in the test section will affect the increase in Loss Coefficients in Each Branch, (2) Changes in Reynolds Numbers (Re) will affect changes in the value of Loss Coefficients (K) in each Branch, (3) Changes in Reynold Numbers (Re) will affect the value of the pressure loss (h) at the connection angle Y, and (4) The difference in experimental results with previous studies sourced from several national and international journals is different because of: the type of test pipe used in the study, the type of test section, technology, measurement that has not been precise due to fluctuations in pressure, diameter of the test specimen, different variations in water discharge, different room temperatures, and variations in different angles.

Abstract: Automobile is an important sector of engineering. As the vehicles demand increase it will become more necessary to make advancements in technologies. Petrol engine have various systems like cooling system, lubricating system, fuel supply system which affects the efficiency and performance of an engine directly or indirectly. Cooling system is an important part of engine. Basically radiators are used in engines for cooling purpose, in which water is used as coolant or heat transfer medium. Water has a very good heat carrying capacity but it has some limitations. It have been seen that some nano particles have excellent properties to work as coolant in automobile technologies. Use of nano fluids as a coolant will help to overcome from various limitations of base fluid and also enhance the performance of radiator. Various studies have been conducted on the performance of nano fluids as coolants in automobile radiators. This paper summaries the review about uses of nano particles or nano fluids as a coolant in automobile system.

Abstract: Drilling is the fundamental operation of making a cylindrical hole in metal cutting industry. This dissertation report focuses on a productivity as well as sustainability project taken up in a “KEC International ltd, Jaipur”. KEC International Limited is manufacturer of electric power transmission towers. The objective of present work is to optimize process parameter to be specific cutting speed, Feed and Hole diameter of E350 HT Steel. Experimentation was completed according to Taguchi trial. The L9 orthogonal array be utilize to study the control of different combinations of process parameter on the drilling quality. Two responses are found first one is material removal rate (MRR) and second is tool life. Minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) technique is use in this work. MQL fluid application method (for mineral and vegetable oils) is compared with Dry condition in this research. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and single to noise ratio is to use to determine the importance of every process parameter on drilling.

Title: Optimization of Tool life and MRR on CNC Drilling Machine for E350 HT Steel: A Minimum Quantity of Lubricant (MQL)

Abstract: The report will compare and discuss the existing control system implemented by a plant in Qatar and the newly designed control system for the plant based on reliability and probability of failure on demand (PFD) calculations. This report also describes the new control system in terms of designing, building and testing phases of the control system. This plant uses the blowback system to filter out product dust from the waste gas using a filter. The filter is cleaned using the air flow that comes from the air header which is controlled by a poppet valve (solenoid valve). The poppet valve purges air for fixed intervals of time. The failure of the poppet valve (stuck open) led to a continuous flow of air and the pressure in the air header was decreased from 7 bar to 3.5 bar. This triggered the emergency shutdown alarm and the plant was shut down. Due to the shutdown, the company loses time and money. The company fixed the problem by implementing one transmitter and one on/off valve. The purpose of this project is to design (based on reliability), build and test a control system which will monitor and control the pressure in the instrument air supply line and takes the process to a safe state by closing the valve in case the pressure decreases below the setpoint. The instrument drawings for the new control system were created. The reliability calculations were done for both the control systems (company’s solution and student’s solution). The new control system was more reliable and the probability of failure on demand rate was lower than the company’s solution. The control system was developed using programming languages (function block diagram and ladder logic diagram) with the help of RSLogix 5000 software and a HMI interface for the control system was created using Factory Talk View software. The developed program was capable of taking the process to a safe state (in case the pressure decreases below the setpoint) and the HMI interface displayed the pressure measurements and alarms triggered by the process. The recommendation with this report is to use a different type of voting system for the controller (2oo2 with diagnostics) which involves selecting the transmitters with Advanced HART diagnostics suite. The 2oo2 Diagnostics voting logic provides high safety and low false trips. The diagnostics feature continuously checks the health of transmitters and takes preventive measures by notifying the operator before abnormal process conditions can occur.

Title: Design a Safety Control System for the Instrument Air Supply in a Qatar Plant

Abstract: This paper will consider cavitation, the mechanism that causes it, its damaging effect on mechanical components, cavitation mitigation and the practical applications of cavitation. Cavitation is a phenomenon that occurs when bubbles form in a liquid due to a pressure drop, then violently collapse. This is usually a consequence of fluids moving at high velocity when the local pressure falls below vapor pressure allowing small amounts of liquid to vaporize. When the bubble reenters a region of high pressure, the bubble then collapses violently with enough energy and force to erode metal. Damage from a single bubble collapse is almost immeasurable; it is the constant accumulation of damage over long periods of time that causes significant removal of material, hence “cavitation erosion”. The highly focused jets of liquid from the collapsing bubbles blast away micro-amounts of material which eventually gives the surface a pitted appearance. This is commonly a problem for mechanical components such as hydrofoils, propellers, automobile engines and centrifugal pumps in working environments of in the marine, automotive and industrial applications where liquid velocity is high and pressure head is low.
