Abstract: The study focused on the level of job satisfaction and performance of faculty at Laguna State Polytechnic University, San Pablo City Campus for the AY 2008-2009. Specifically, it sought answer to the respondents’ perceived level of job satisfaction on Physiological; Social; and Intellectual Needs; the level of faculty performance as to: peer; supervisors’; and client’s ratings; and the relationship between respondents’ profile; job satisfaction variables and faculty performance. Descriptive statistics, Pearson-Product Moment Correlation, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and Regression Analysis were employed in the study. Majority of the respondents belonged to 51-60 years old bracket; female; Masters’ degree holders with doctoral units; and earned 31–40 years academic experience. The perceived respondents’ physiological needs and social needs satisfactions revealed as satisfied while intellectual needs satisfaction was interpreted as strongly satisfied. Correlation analysis between respondent’s profile and job satisfaction and faculty performance revealed no significant relationship, except for length of teaching experience, (p-value=0.341). The regression analysis revealed that the positive beta coefficient for physiological needs (beta=.121, p=.014), social needs (beta=.000, p=.347) and intellectual needs (beta=.218, p=.016) implies that job satisfaction registered significant effect on faculty performance. The F-value of 10.456 for ANOVA at 0.000 probability means that equation is significant.

Abstract: Education is a life-long process. Objectives and medium of education are changing with the demand of society from time to time. With the chronological transformation of residential institutions for education, education in monastery, sanskrit schools, organizational education, student- centered education, vocational education etc., open and distance education has been flourished. The existence and expansion of any medium of education mainly depends on its acceptability and success. In this research work, acceptability of distance education has been discussed. The present work has been conducted to study the acceptability of distance education among students. A sample of 100 distance learners from West Bengal (in India) was selected. Two sets of questionnaires were employed to gather opinion or attitude towards distance education from the students, different teachers and administrative personals. The findings of the study revealed that majority number of students favour for the distance education and the acceptability of distance education among students were satisfactory.

Abstract: This paper examines the errors of English articles in the writings of the advanced Arab students. It is believed that ESL advanced Arabs, if not trained well, face the problem of employing the English article system due to the difference between their L1 and English. The participants were 20 ESL students who spoke Arabic as a first language, 11 males and 9 females. All of them were students at the ELI, Missouri State University, at level 502 which is the most advanced level. Students in this level are expected to pursue their graduate studies when they pass it. Examining their essays, Six categories of errors were found: the for Ø, Ø for the, a/an for Ø, Ø for a/an, the for a/an, and over-avoidance. The category that has the most errors is the Ø for a/an (27 errors). The second most-erred category is Ø for the (14 errors); then, the third, Over-avoidance (11 errors); next, the fourth, the for Ø (8 errors); followed by, the fifth, the for a/an (4 errors); and finally, the sixth, a/an for Ø (2 errors). It might be said that these students need to be taught articles separately and be given extensive exercises on the articles in different contexts. It is also recommended that they be taught the rules of the articles as mentioned in the different books of grammar and be asked to follow them.

Abstract: The main purpose of this research was to study the stress among the teachers (Working Women) with special reference to secondary school in Belagavi District. Today teaching is becoming more challenge as a profession and it is one of the most significant and visible profession in the world.  The word stress like success, future happiness, means different types to different people and except for a few specialize scientist. The aim of study is to find out the stress of working women teachers at working place like physical, psychological and suggest remedies. Based on the findings of the study it was majority of teachers (women’s) are sufficient relationship with their colleagues. So they do not create any problems among them. Women teachers have some Physical Complaints it is effect on teaching. The overview draws on literature from social, psychological information, family environmental, attitude towards job information and Health information studies.

Abstract: First time voter is one important factor that can not be ignore by many political parties in earning votes for the next General Election 2014. It is estimated that there will be 22 millions voters who will have suffrage as their first in this 2014 election (Kompas, 29th  January, 2013)1. Therefore for many political parties they should look to this early voters beside for the basis to win the election, it also important to form cadres for the existence of their parties in future time. Reseach site is in Malang city. This research was using qualitative method, data collection method by interview, and informant selection by purposive sampling technique followed by snowball sampling. Data analysis by using an approarch of Miles & Huberman theory (1992)2. Data validity by using triangulation and peer debriefing (Creswell, 2010)3. The result of this research is the winning strategy of three political parties (PAN, PDI-P, PKS) very depending on the policy and party line from central board. Communication pattern that they do were rely on party cadre in various level of party board to gain the first time voter. An individual figure is highly affecting its party image and mass media is recognize as a tool that every party agree to use for party introduction and party image. For Malang city, parties strategies in attract first time voters are vary, starting from cultural, religious, and multi level marketing approaches, that is one person influence some of his or her closest friends.

Abstract: This paper is an attempt to investigate the characteristics of the English language, and how it has developed to become the global language. It is observed in this study that often students, in school as well as in college levels are not given the proper orientation about the significance of learning English; hence they develop a lukewarm approach to learn English. Most of the students start learning English without getting information about its’ importance, as a result they are least interested in learning the language and treat it not only as unnecessary subject but also as the most difficult one. The sample of this study was taken randomly from the students who study in the College of Education. A questionnaire was given to the students to examine their awareness about the importance of English language. The analysis of the questionnaire showed that most of the participants are not aware about the significance of English language. It is recommended to build language awareness among students to help them to gain a positive attitude toward the English language by developing the confidence in them to make an attempt to learn this global language.  By becoming aware of the strategies that can be used to learn English, students may become more active and responsible for their own learning.  Learning more about language in general may help the student develop an appreciation for the target language.

Abstract: Based on the sample of 60 seafood entrepreneurs interviewed in the Mekong Delta, a model for entrepreneurial motivations comprising five factors is proposed, in which different types of motivation are taken into account. Those five factors are resource availability, crisis, social status, communication status, and leadership. Motivations are branched out pull motivations and push motivations. Findings verify that the factors of resource availability, crisis, and communication status aren’t part of the pull motivations and the push motivations of entrepreneurs. Although this result is unexpected, it raises an interesting question with respect to the role entrepreneurial threats or opportunities in the decision to create a firm. The paper finds evidence of pull motivations and push motivations significantly related to leadership and social status. Those are important for the decision to create the seafood business of entrepreneurs, in which leadership is more spreading into effect than social status. In addition, a significant difference between pull motivations and push motivations is found, which entrepreneurs think that the pull motivations are more important than the push motivations to start up business.

Abstract: Advertising as a means of promotion is capable of influencing culture. In this era of globalization it is evident that advertising finds itself at a very peculiar position as it tries to strike a balance between trans-culture across borders. African culture is known for being reserved when subjected or compared to western culture. Even though there may be no straight cut definition of what defines Africanity or African culture, the definition can be based on the values and beliefs enshrined in the African continent.

The purpose of this paper was to look at how African cultures are portrayed in advertisements in Kenya and how exactly different portrayals of cultures especially the Western culture in the Kenyan market results to a clash of civilization. The paper assessed the impact of different portrayals of cultures through advertisement in Kenya, under the following three parameters: sex and nudity in advertising, sexual orientation and advertising and masculinity/feminity in advertising. The research looked at how the above three are represented in African cultures, and where the clash comes in.

The methodology used in this desertion was purely content analysis of advertising in Kenya, advertising literatures and consumer reactions to various advertising. It took a purely qualitative approach.

Abstract: The study sought to identify the effect of the age of owner on the small scale enterprise performance in Kampala, Uganda. This study was carried out using a sample of 409 legally registered small businesses in Kampala, which are managed by their owners. Data was collected using a four point Likert scale questionnaire to measure nonfinancial performance. The hypothesis: (i) there is a significant difference between the performance of older and younger small business owners, and (ii) There is a significant relationship between age of owner and performance of small business.  Using the potent parametric statistical techniques such as one way ANOVA, Pearson’s Linear Correlations Coefficient (PLCC) and a simple regression analysis, the findings suggest that: (i) there is a significant difference between the performance of older and younger small business owners and (ii) there is no significant relationship between age of owner and performance of small business.

Abstract:  As in all other Hindu temples, the Tiruvanaikka temple also has daily rituals, a host of colourful monthly and annual festivals.  We shall see the significance of all the festivals in this paper. The Chitrai festival is celebrated in the first month of every Tamil Year. It is held for only one day, on full moon night. The Second important festival is celebrated in the month of Vaikasi on every Tamil Year. It is held for ten days. It is popularly known as Vasanthautsavam. Abstract: Global environmental problems have become the concern of all and sundry. Various policy principles have been put in place to checkmate the intensification of these anomalies, especially global warming, ozone layer depletion and climate change. The anticipation is that States in the global polity should have a corresponding environmental policy framework that is in tandem with global environmental laws. Various sectorial activities in real time have adverse effects on the environment, and these include the extractive industry as well as agriculture. Agriculture is the major source of livelihood and sustenance and employs a reasonable percent of the Nigerian population, yet various practices in this arena are however destructive and inimical to the environment. Deforestation, over-grazing, bush burning and a host of other unfriendly practices contributes to the degradation of the biosphere. In recent time, the new framework is policy integration. This work however examines the degree of policy integration and policy principles in Nigeria’s environmental framework, with emphasis on the agricultural sector. It is observed here that inspite of the noble environmental laws and policies in Nigeria; the integration of environmental principles to agriculture cum its full implementation is relatively poor. The thrust of this generally boils down to poverty and the lack of a decent and honest monitoring system. An awakening towards policy reconciliation is recommended.

Abstract: Nursing profession has seen sociological knowledge as a valuable clinical tool, both in the diagnosis and prognosis of a wide range of illnesses and long-term conditions. The study reflects the problems of nursing profession in Gujarat in particular and India in general. Abstract: The study investigated the influence of subject combination and gender on the achievement of Physics students in physics at the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) Level. The research design adopted was causal-comparative. The results of 2009/2010 Physics students’ sectional performance across the various subject combinations were considered. A total of 119 physics students’ result across the subject combinations and levels of the Federal College of Education, Kontagora were used for the study. The One way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and studentized t-test were used to analyze the data (students’ results) collected. The findings revealed that students’ subject combination is not a determinant of students’ academic performance in Physics at NCE level except at NCE 1. It also revealed that sex is not a determinant of students’ academic performance in Physics. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations such as Physics students should be made to offer relevant courses in mathematics irrespective of their subject combinations and that both sex should be given equal attentions among others were proffered.

Abstract: A sport counsellor teaches an athlete to visualize successfully completing a certain action in sporting activity.  This will give the athlete confidence to complete the maneuver as well as prepare the athletes body for the actual maneuver. The purpose of this article is to describe the benefits of sport counselling and provide approaches in handling challenging issues in the field as sport people perform their skills.  The essence is to provide a relaxed scenario in sporting career to uphold competencies that would propagate effective performance in a competition. A sport counsellor provides a model for sport men and women to have a focus in the job they do and build a career for proficiency and self-actualization.  Fear of failure, anxiety and lack of confidence was identified as some of the issues athletes face on the field and inconsistency in performance, social withdrawal were strongly recognized as issues that may require the attention of the sport counsellor.  Be that as it may, cognitive behavioural approaches and psycho-dynamic approaches were seen as strong indicators in handling athletic issues for a better and functional sport team with formidable skills to tackle opponents and win a competition as the coaches and sport managers triumph.

Abstract: The study determined the teacher educators’ research engagement in terms of research publication and the competencies needed to publish research works in scholarly journals.  Findings revealed that teachers have not developed the culture of research as evidenced by a small percentage of   educators engaging in research activities.  Majority have not been involved in research dissemination through publication of their research outputs. The teachers failed to publish their work since they lack the necessary competencies required in conducting research from the pre-writing to the publication phase. There is a need to capacitate teacher educators in conducting research from the conceptualization of the research topic to publication of their research work.
