Abstract: The threat of communicable disease outbreaks is greater during and after a disaster than during other times particularly when large populations have been displaced. The study was to mainly analyzing the occurrence and prevalence of communicable diseases associated with flooding disaster in Dar es Salaam City. It was intended to screen and establish a spectrum of flood proneness for areas exposed to frequent flooding in Dar, Also to review the characteristics and the influencing factors of diseases associated with flooding in the context of environmental and socio-economic conditions prevailing in the case study area as well as to analyse the relationship between the occurrence of the diseases associated with flooding and the presence of their risk factors (causative agent and influencing factors) in the case study area. The different methods were used such as discussions and consultations, key informant interviews, secondary information, mapping and photographs and direct observations. The study found that Kinondoni was the most prone of all three Municipalities because it has 40.6 % of the city total population in which many people live in unplanned settlements which make them vulnerable to flooding disasters while Ilala has only 27.9 % of the total population and Temeke has 31.36%.

Abstract: The colonial structures that still stand today in India are the product of careful fabrication of British thought. The British government was afraid of what kind of legacy they would leave behind when exiting India in 1947. Today, years after the independence of India, one is still able to see such a legacy in stone: the colonial architecture and cities that are still in existence. The styles of architecture employed by the British Raj were systematically chosen, dependent on the location and utilization of a given city. The British were trying to consecrate their power through architectural representation. Trying to legitimize British rule, architects wanted to tie the architecture of the British with former Indian rulers, yet still create an effect of British grandeur. The examples illustrate that location and utilization were indeed crucial determinants of colonial style.

Abstract: Systematic studies of language errors made by students while learning a foreign language (FL) have been of great interest for researchers that help in designing the curriculum and textbooks for the learners. Mistakes which constantly appear in certain structures of a target language learnt by people speaking same native tongue draw the researcher’s attention to the foreign structures difficult to acquire by learners. In recent years, applied linguistics have been much concerned with the description of the linguistic behavior of the FL learners labeled as deviant or error. In particular, a technique known as error analysis has been developed by means of which it is claimed access is gained to the transitional competence of the FL learner. The source of mistakes is plentiful and the errors discussed in this study are interpreted linguistically. In this study, only those mistakes are discussed which are caused by the linguistic phenomenon and interpreted linguistically. The present study focuses on the most common linguistic errors which Arabic speaking learners in Jazan University encounter in learning English as a foreign language.

In this study the quantitative method was used. The primary data is collected from the hotel by questionnaires and interview. A questionnaire was used as the data collection technique and Ruetzler (2005) scale, which was developed to measure service quality in Ambassador Hotel, was used for creating the survey form and the secondary data is gotten from articles, journals and online resources. In the methodology the factor analysis by using ANOVA model, were performed on 96 valid sample survey data. The ANOVA model analysis was applied to five dimension of service quality (SERVQUAL) that were determine with age group as a result a factor analysis and it was found that these dimension affect the customer satisfaction positively. It was concluded that there is significant relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction. The research findings confirmed that there is a positive relationship between service quality and customer satisfaction.

Abstract: A pretest- posttest quasi-experimental design study was carried out to determine if a one-semester collaborative research proposal development by eleven (11) Fourth Year BSED Biology students of Iloilo State College of Fisheries (ISCOF) Main Campus can improve their research competence in terms of their a. Basic Educational Research Knowledge, b. Ability to Synthesize and Evaluate Journal Articles in Biology Education, and 3. Understanding of their Proposed Research Topics. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test for Related Samples showed a significant increase in basic educational research knowledge (p= 0.018, α=0.05) and proposed topics understanding (p= 0.007, α=0.05). Their ability to synthesize and evaluate educational researches remained the same (p= 0.068, α=0.05). These results showed that the intervention was somehow successful in delivering improvement to the student-researchers’ competence; however, further examination of raw post-test data for the 3 criteria with an overall competence mean of about 11 out of 20 reveal that it is only to the minimum accepted level. This study did accomplished two important tasks- first is preparing the student to have an in-depth grasp of his completed research proposal before presenting it to his/her chosen adviser and panel evaluators; and second, it provided grounded data on the value of collaborative activities in an undergraduate research proposal development. Continued monitoring and synthesis of additional findings up to the eventual completion of these students’ researches can back up the creation of a Student Research Support Program in ISCOF.

Abstract: Tourism and travel is one of the world’s largest sectors, supporting over 266 million jobs and generating 9.5% globally. The viability of the industry is however under threat in the recent past. It has experienced declining revenue contribution especially to the Kenyan GDP. The main driver of performance of any sector is its capability to transform their strategies into deliverable results. It is however clear from literature that organization’s capabilities have failed hence poor performance due to incapacity to implement their strategies. This is because strategy implementation is critical than strategy formulation. This study sought to provide an opportunity to empirically test the drivers of performance and the mediating role of strategy implementation by looking at information technology capabilities. The study employed descriptive and cross-sectional research designs. The target population was all the Tourism state corporations in Kenya with the management of these firms being the respondents. A census was carried out due to small nature of the target population. Data collection involved the use of questionnaires which attracted quantitative responses. The data was analyzed using regression analysis. ANOVA test was carried out to test the significance of the model. The findings of the study indicated that automated systems affect profitability of most of the organizations. Automated systems were found to contribute above 51% to performance of most organizations in Kenya. Further results indicated that majority of organizations in tourism sector use E-ticketing in their operations. The findings further indicated that using IT to keep customers informed, using IT to provide information to frequently asked questions, using IT for customer and organization interaction on IT platform and acquiring new IT systems regularly were efficient to a great extent. The regression results indicated that using IT to provide information to frequently asked questions, Customer and Organization interaction on IT platforms and acquiring new IT systems regularly were positively and significantly related to performance of tourism organizations. The regression results also indicated that that information technology capability was positively and significantly related to performance of tourism state corporations in Kenya. The study concluded that automated systems affect profitability of most Tourism state corporations in Kenya. The study also concluded that Information Technology capability has a significant effect on performance of tourism state corporations in Kenya. The study recommended that those Tourism state corporations in Kenya that have not adopted E-ticketing should adopt it as it positively influences performance. Furthermore, the use of IT to keep customers informed, to provide information to frequently asked questions, for customer and organization interaction on IT platform and acquiring new IT systems regularly should be embraced as they are efficient and improves performance.
