Abstract: This study is an attempt to assess the spatial population aging in Bangladesh using both census  and survey data collected from Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics during the period 1951 to 2001. Different measures of population aging have been used for analysis. Spatial auto correlation and spatial regression model have also been used to analyse the data. It is found that the southern region is more aged than other region of the country. There exists a spatial variation of aging process when districts are considered as spatial unit. A negative relationship between the aging index and the CBR has been observed. From the spatial autocorrelation, it is found that there is a positive association among the spatial values of aging index. It is observed that the value of the AI at a given location tends to be similar to the values of that index in nearby locations. From the Spatial regression models it is observed that the spatial lag model fits the data well and supports the claim of spatial auto correlation.

Abstract: The purpose of this phenomenological research is to trace and understand the experiences of closeted gays before and after they came out of the metaphorical closet, in terms of interpersonal relationship. Qualitative method was used in the study and interview was conducted to nine participants from the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual (LGB) Community. The data collected from the participants were validated and supported by the information given by two key informants. The results determined that the interpersonal communication between closeted gays and the people around them is different before and after they come out because before coming out, closeted gays has more aloof interpersonal relationship with people as they were afraid that their real orientation will be revealed; however, after disclosing their real sexual orientation, closeted gays enhanced communication with people as they can share more information about themselves. There are various ways on how closeted gays came out of the closet, in terms of communication–verbal and non-verbal. The enhancement of the communication that closeted gays receive differs according to the acceptance they were given by the people whom they disclose their real sexual orientation with. However, there are still boundaries to the kind of information to be shared between gays and straight community, due to diverse level of acknowledgement. Jointly, these findings suggest the need for narrowing the scope of the term interpersonal communication and setting age perimeter of the participants to be able to extract more precise data and also for the study to be narrower.

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to observe if social media access through smart devices really becomes a barrier to family communication. Descriptive qualitative method was used in this study with the use of purposive sampling and Focus Group Discussion. There were three (3) families interviewed so as to learn more about their behavior and if social media access really affects their communication. To validate and confirm the data gathered from the families questioned, four (4) experts were interviewed — two (2) social media and smart device experts and two (2) life coaches. The results show that when it comes to family communication, social media only becomes a barrier if it already takes the place of face-to-face communication and eventually becomes a priority rather than an option. When members of the families failed to harmoniously weigh their urgencies, communication suffers. Therefore, in order to establish a healthy family communication, parents should exert effort on cultivating their children’s communication skills while growing up for this can lead them into an open relationship when time comes. Since family is the basic unit of this society, all of a person’s communication skills start from it and when communication within the family fails, a person will have a difficult time, communicating towards other as well. It is recommended that communication should be defined as broad as possible in order to further expand the area of the study as well as its results.

Abstract: There are raging debates that corporate practices of large corporate organizations such as multinational oil companies (MNOCs) are at variance with sustainable environmental development proclivity. Knowledge Management (KM) could assume new roles for institutional overhaul of corporate organizations such as MNOCs where Green Corporate Social Responsibility (GCSR) could be prioritized in crude oil resource exploitation to alleviate deleterious environmental effects. A four decade scenario of oil spill (1976 to 2011) and case analysis between Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) a major MNOC in the Niger Delta South -South Nigeria and Ogoni an oil bearing community in the Niger Delta was examined to demonstrate how Ogoni sealed SPDCs’ operations since 1993. The study deployed sets of primary and secondary data sources as well as seminal theoretical issues raised on environmental sustainability. Findings suggest that   green KM initiatives have had minimal impacts on multinational oil companies (MNOCs) and their business transactions as MNOCs protect their historical corporate interests against KM scrutiny. The paper proposes a green corporate social responsibility (GCSR) as a model for corporate resource sustainability.

Abstract: The study examined the influence of age, social support and work-family conflict of college students. The sample size of the study was 150 participants, 61 males (41%) and 89 females (59%). The participants responded to two instruments, demographic instrument with 10 items and work spillover instrument that had 20 items. The study found a significance difference on age work spillover with older students having higher spillover to younger students. A significant difference was also found on younger students having higher work-conflict than older students. Student with low social support showed a significantly higher overall work spillover that those who had high social support.

Abstract:  Learning is crucial to one’s cognitive development, especially from an early age. The application of music as both an entertainment and academic learning tool, could garner fruition, even in a typical environment that is not normally conducive to learning.

The objective of this research was to determine the extent to which music pedagogy influences creative thinking, within the context of gender-based delivery.

This research was conducted over an eight-week period, as part of a work experience at a secondary school, targeting students of grades 7 to 9. Primary and secondary data were used to inform this research. Constructivism approach was used as a motivation element to spark learning. Theories such as Vygotsky, Kodaly, Suzuki, Gordon Learning and Eurhythmics were featured to explain the relevant findings.

The findings revealed that negative perception about music could challenge academic performance and creative thinking. Prior exposure, interests, gender and socio-cultural attributes played an integral role in how receptive students were in absorbing music and being able to think creatively. Having linked music with academic disciplines such as Mathematics, English Language, using rhythms, composition, pitch, dynamics, beats, dancehall songs, games, this shows significant improvement in students’ test scores. This was higher among boys (>50%) than girls.

Abstract: This study contributes in the literature by investigating the growth impact of social cohesion using a panel data of 102 developing countries over the period1986-2010. The study has employed a comprehensive measure of social cohesion that covers a large number of social indicators such as inequality, trust, terrorism, and social conflicts. Our study finds out that the growth effect of social cohesion is positive and significant in the developing world. Finding of the study are shown to be robust to different control variables, different specifications, econometric techniques and outliers.

Abstract: Salt Satyagraha or Salt march or as one may call it Dandi march was a very significant part of the Indian Independence movement against the British rule led by Mahatma Gandhi. It was a milestone in the way, it influenced the Indian society to resist the wrong donings of the British. It included tax resistance and non-violent protest based on the principle of Satyagraha by Mahatma Gandhi and his followers. Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine factors that influence grandparent-grandchild relationships from college students’ perspectives.  Data was collected among 138 adult university students, with 93 females (67.4%) and 45 males (32.6%). The participants completed two scales: Grandparent Child Relationship Scale (GPCRS) with 48 items and Adult Attachment (AA) Scale with 18 items. One-Way ANOVA showed that there was significant different in the college student relationship with both grandmother and grandfather on positive affect, communication, involvement, anger and role confusion. One Way ANOVA also showed dependency and anxiety was significant in grandfather-grandchild relationships whereas closeness, dependency, and anxiety were all significant for grandmother-grandchild relationship.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine the factors of age, financial well-being and social support on college student’s typical life. Data was collected among 142 adult students, 98 females (69%) and 44 males (31%) of the participants.  The Work Spillover-Scale was used in this study to collect data and it had 20 items that measured family life, work life, and the amount of college coursework they completed. The study showed that there was a significant influence on the financial well-being, social support and parent child relationship on the student academic achievement, family life and work life.

Abstract: Joseph Kockelmans portrays phenomenology as a circle of vagueness. He calls attention to that the term has a long history in theory, with researchers characterizing it in different ways. Abstract: The Lowland is the tragic story of two brothers Subhas and Udayan and their wife Gauri. The con- sequences in the novel were the aftermaths of Udayan’s involvement in the naxalite movement. In this Postcolonial novel Jhumpa Lahiri captures the tension and political richness of a certain period which influenced people to join the movement and establish socialism in the country. Udayan’s execution before his parents and a pregnant wife brought main changes in the family. Gauri supported Udayan in his naxalite activities hence she presumes responsible for his death.

Abstract: Medical ethics have deep impact on patients, physicians and health care institutions. Despite the prevalence of ‘Code of Medical Ethics’ as prescribed by the Medical Council of India, several gaps exists in regulating behaviors of doctors in interest of patients. To bring improvement in public health and doctor patient relationship, in 2010, the Clinical Establishments (Registration & Regulation) Act was enacted. This paper is an insight into the provisions of the said legislation as to find out how far it has helped in plugging the existing loopholes in the medical profession in India.

Abstract: The purpose of this project is to enhance the Quranic and entrepreneurship knowledge and skills of Muslim youth via an Islamic Transformation Center (ITC) by leveraging the Quadruple Helix Model (QHM) collaboration approach where the actors are the government, university, industry and citizen; and with the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This paper intends to propose a conceptual ITC as a platform in developing holistic potential of individuals who are intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically balanced, based on firm belief and devotion to God. This paper is based on literature reviews, adopting the Business Model Canvas (BMC) framework in building a conceptual solution for Quranic and entrepreneurship knowledge and skills for youth development. This conceptual paper seeks to put forth a collaboration approach, namely the combined deployment of the Quadruple Helix Model (QHM) mooted by Agency Inovasi Malaysia, the concept of Whole-of-Government (WoG) implementation across the Malaysian Government Agency, also supported by the Network of Mosque (NoM) and the use of ICT. In order to introduce Quranic and entrepreneurship knowledge and skills to the youths effectively, the integration of governments, professionals, academia, industry and citizen supported by the use of ICT are required in order to leverage Quranic and entrepreneurship knowledge and skills. Youths are expected to play an important role for the advancement of Islam as well as the enhancement of societal wellbeing.
