Abstract: This paper is going to show some strategies and methods recently applied in some institutes around the world. Those methods, if applied, in our institutes will help instructors to change their teaching methods and make their classes interesting and information given stays with their students long even after they leave the classroom.

Instructors biggest challenge is to attract students’ attention and present ideas in such a way that stay with their students long after they leave the classroom. For this to happen, the classroom experience should be redefined and innovative ideas should be implemented that would make teaching methods more effective.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the problems that Jazan University students face in writing better sentences and developing these sentences to a great paragraph. In order to solve these problems, the researcher has proposed some techniques and strategies that can help the students to improve their written performance and also has examined the effectiveness of ‘parts of speech’ in writing skills. Based on that, the researcher has designed the questionnaire as an instrument for data collection, with 24 items, and the sample of the study consisted of (50) ELT teachers from different campuses. A descriptive analytical approach is being used in order to get better results. The (S.P.S.S) statistical program is being used for analyzing, discussing and interpreting the results of the study.

In general, the students need to identify the basic elements of writing well-structured sentences and that can be done through mastering the parts of speech and understanding their function and role the in construction of sentences.

Abstract: This study aimed at investigating the most common undesirable behaviors of Al Aqsa University faculty members. It also aimed at figuring out any possible differences due to the postgraduates’ gender, academic specializations, and ages, as the study sample consisted of (76) postgraduate students among all the postgraduates of Al Aqsa University. The researchers followed the analytical descriptive approach to achieve the goals of the study, using the needed statistical tests. The results showed that the top undesirable staff members’ behaviors from the postgraduate students of Al Aqsa University are mock the students’ abilities and ideas, bothered by the students’ questions during lectures, using the students in carrying out personal favors, and ignoring recording the attendance of the students. It is worth mentioning that there are no statistically significant differences in the results of the study due to the variables of gender, age, and the academic specialization. Finally, the study recommends the university administration to conduct professional courses in the communication skills for the faculty members so that they can better perform and handle their responsibilities, as well as the need for further in-depth research on the undesirable behaviors of the university students from the perspective of their faculty members in order to achieve a deeper and wider understanding of all the educational problems.

Abstract: Skills can neither be taught, nor learnt, but skills are acquired. Of all languages, English continues to have its domination over other languages, even though it poses no threat to any language. Literature reflects life and it has been aptly defined as the “mirror of literature”. This paper titled “Developing Communicative Skills in English through Literature” begins with an introduction on the importance of English in today’s world of competition and moves with some relevant definitions of literature. It brings out the differences among Approach, Methodology and Technique and list out the approaches to language teaching-learning. The paper throws light on the advantages of the study of literature for communicative purposes and ends with some suggestions for enhancing language skills through literature.

Abstract: This paper aims to explain about Maqashid Al-Mukallah as an Applied Solution to Comprehensive Fatwa. The concept of maqāshid al-syarī'ah is one of the most important subjects in the study of usul fiqh. Maqāshid consists of three levels, namely: maqāshid al-dharūriyāt, maqāshid al-hājiyāt, and maqāshid al-tahsīniyāt. Dharūriyāt means his existence is required for the benefit of the slave. Hājiyāt means something that is needed to remove trouble, such as rukhshah (lightness) does not fast for the sick. Tahsiniyāt means something that is taken for the good of life and avoids ugliness, such as noble character, eliminates unclean and close aurat. According to al-Shāthibiy, dharūriyāt is detailed in five purposes, namely: (1) Maintaining religion (hifzh al-dīn); (2) Maintaining the soul (hifzh al-nafs); (3) Keep the mind (hifzh al-'aql); (4) Keeping offspring (hifzh al-nasl); (5) Maintain property (hifzh al-māl).

Abstract: This study sought to determine the influence of alternative banking channels on financial performance of listed tier 1 commercial banks in Kenya. The study adopted a causal research design to test the cause and effect relationship between the variables. The target population for this study was at two levels. The first target population was at institutional level where the study targets 6 listed tier 1 commercial banks in Kenya in operation as at 31 December 2016. Primary data was collected by administering open and close-ended questionnaire to the respondent.The study findings established that there was a weak correlation between agency banking, online banking, mobile banking and automatic teller machines and financial performance of listed tier 1 commercial banks in Kenya. In addition, the study established that agency banking and online banking have a positive and significant relationship with financial performance while mobile banking has a negative but insignificant relationship with financial performance. Additionally, the study findings show that ATMs have a positive and insignificant relationship with financial performance of listed tier 1 commercial banks in Kenya. The study recommends that listed tier 1 commercial banks should continuously invest in alternative channels as it would afford them a better cost control measure compared to traditional investments in brick and mortal of physical branches. This helps to minimize the cost per unit of service and hence improved financial performance for the banks. Listed tier 1 commercial banks should come up with several other ways of utilizing and returns from mobile banking and internet banking.

Abstract: This paper analyses the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZIMASSET 2013-2018), a five-year economic development blueprint adopted by the Zimbabwe government under the then President of Zimbabwe R.G Mugabe in 2013. ZIMASSET is premised on four strategic cluster areas prioritised for the resuscitation of Zimbabwe’s ailing economy following more than a decade of economic regression. The major factors that militated against the achievement of ZIMASSET’s objectives in the last four years include lack of requisite political and economic reforms as well as lack of diverse foreign policy options. Consequently, unemployment levels have skyrocketed, investments have not been forthcoming. However, the main thrust of this paper is that the Mugabe foreign policy was too narrowly focused on China and did not put significant emphasis on the possibilities of deeper engagements with other emerging economies such as Brazil and India.  Further, although reengagement of the West was mentioned in the ZIMASSET document, this was not prioritised as noted by the lack of political support for the Minister of Finance’s Lima Plan where he sought to implement a plan for Zimbabwe’s clearance of its debt arrears with International Financial Institutions (IFIs). Continued use of inflammatory rhetoric by the former President Mugabe when addressing Western state leaders did not help the reengagement cause. The methodology employed is a thorough analysis of relevant documentary sources on Zimbabwe’s foreign policy engagements as well as on local political and economic issues. This paper recommends that since ZIMASSET has already failed to achieve economic development for the country, the new government led by President Mnangagwa has to institute a more pragmatic foreign policy orientation, embark on political and economic reforms and stamp out corruption. This would attract much needed Foreign Direct investment (FDI), technology and diverse financial options.
