Abstract: This study examined the influence of road traffic information on road safety in Kisumu County, South Western Kenya. For this purpose, the study specifically assessed the influence of traffic signages, and the significance of traffic guidelines on road safety in the county. The study adopted an exploratory and descriptive correlational research design based on the quantitative and qualitative approach. The study population included 1919 people categorised in different subgroups that were used as sampling frames to select a study sample of 365 respondents for field research. The study findings indicate that the level of road safety in rural Kisumu was low and relatively high in urban Kisumu. In particular, road fatality was only less fairly reduced on rural roads and more relatively decreased on urban roads in the county. This was correspondingly attributed to discrepancies in traffic signages, and the provision of traffic guidelines that varied between the two territorial areas of the county. Particularly, traffic signages were inadequate in most of rural Kisumu and fairly sufficient in urban Kisumu. Provision of traffic guidelines was less consistent in most rural areas and fairly consistent in urban areas of the county. It was concluded that road safety in Kisumu County had a very significant bearing on the sufficiency of traffic signages as well as consistency of traffic road use guidance. Generally, Kisumu County as a whole had a lot more to do with such traffic information activities to boost road safety that was just average.  It was therefore recommended that Kenya’s State Departments for Transport and Infrastructure, Kisumu County Government, the private sector and all other road users in the county should collectively help bolster traffic information provision as required by Kenya’s road safety policy. All stakeholders can do that by going about their road use responsibilities in a fashion that ensures best practice and safe road use.

Abstract: Teaching English in Vocational Education should refer to English for specific purposes where the students ‘needs focus on communicating in their field study like engineering, nursing, navigation or computer etc... it is given to the learners who need English for their work. This study  led to the conclusion that the dominance of mother tongue, negative attitudes of trainer toward English language, improper use of method in teaching the four skills of  English language(listening ,speaking ,reading ,writing), inadequate instructional media and facilities, and lack of language laboratory  are the causes of poor students  performance in English language  . The paper concluded that the instructors, curriculum designer are responsible for improving the students’ performance in English language four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing).

Abstract: The performance of National Government Constituencies Development Funds (NG-CDFs) is key in the provision of services to citizens. However empirical literature suggests that their performance has not been satisfactory. This therefore prompted further inquiry on how financial reporting plays a role in the relationship between governance and performance of NG-CDFs. A census survey was carried out on all the 290 NG-CDFs performance in Kenya. A positivistic research philosophy and a descriptive cross-sectional survey design were used. Data was collected using structured and unstructured questionnaire. The questionnaire was administered through a drop and pick method. Regression analysis was then used to test the hypotheses at 95 percent confidence level. The results of the study findings were established and compared to various theories anchoring the study and conceptual, contextual and empirical evidence. Financial reporting as a moderating variable had a significant influence on the relationship between governance and NG-CDFs performance. The study made contributions to policy formulation, managerial practice and theory. The study benefits policy makers and managerial practise in both public and private sector. At policy level the unnecessary bureaucracy common in the governance of public sector needs to be looked at to reduce its negative relationship between governance and performance. Further, formulators of policy in the NG-CDF regarding governance and financial reporting can benefit from the findings of this study. Managerial practitioners especially in NG-CDF may consider strengthening governance interaction and combination with the other variables of the study to enhance performance. The study can also be used in different contexts in order for researchers to draw different patterns showing the effect of governance on organisational performance outcome.

Abstract: In its course of work, a democratic police force or service is one that is fairer, commits fewer violations, is held by more professional standards, gains legitimacy and improves its professional conduct, which in turn makes it more effective and earns public confidence. However, many police services across the world do not uphold integrity and professionalism in executing their mandates. The Kenyan police force has been under sharp criticism for decades owing to its incapacity to tackle crimes effectively, excessive use of force, rampant corruption, impunity as well as the general disregard for people’s rights and democratic ideals. Following the adoption of the 2010 Constitution, massive police reforms have been adopted in Kenya in the spirit of having a democratic policing. This article examines the police reform path in Kenya and critically analyses its success and challenges that could impact on the public’s confidence in the police service. It has been established that the required legal and structural changes needed for implementation success are in place. However, despite these steps, the police reforms have largely remained theoretical as the police service is characterised by a continued abuse of human rights, repeated failure to protect the citizens and demonstrable lack of accountability. Some of the factors standing on the way of democratic policing in Kenya include inadequate resources, poor coordination and cooperation of the two units of NPS, lack of political goodwill and political interference, and a poor culture of brutality and impunity where the dictates of the law are ignored. There is, therefore, the need to recommit to the course of implementing all reforms to ensure that the police service becomes effective and earns public trust.

Abstract: Women trans-border traders along the Mamfe-Ekok-Ikom corridor have been ostensibly constraint despite the numerous trading opportunities offered by the natural and human milieu. A few scholars have examined trade in this corridor; paying less attention to the enormous barriers that undermined the efforts of women trans-border traders. It is in this regard that this paper explores the social, economic and politico-strategic constraints faced by women trans-border traders thereof. The paper opines that the intermittent decline in women’s trading activities in the said corridor can be attributed to the constraints discussed.  The study has made ample use of primary sources- oral interviews using interview guides, theses and dissertations; and secondary sources- published books, journals and the internet. It adopts the historical mode, largely qualitative analysis, presented in a thematic manner. The findings reveal that women involved in the Cameroon-Nigeria trans-border trade within the Mamfe-Ekok-Ikom corridor were hindered by socio-economic and politico-strategic constraints, which contributed to sporadic decline in female trade and the overall trade along the corridor in general.  Women were however the most affected because they were vulnerable to risks and other conditions that limited their efforts, participation and profits. Based on these findings, the paper concludes that women trans-border traders are a key resource that need to be encouraged by eliminating the constraints they faced. Gender-based trade policies would certainly facilitate female trade in the said corridor and enable the attainment of full trade potentials by Cameroon and Nigeria in particular and Africa in general.

Abstract: Population dynamics and pattern of socio-economic and cultural development of the Nizamabad District is an outcome of natural and socio-economic factors and their utilization by man in space and time; the socio-economic and cultural development an area or society greatly depends on the quality of its population. Population is one of the prime resources, which plays an important role in determining the economy of the region. A proper assessment of the various dimensions of its population including size, growth rate and other demographic parameters, and also the human skills in the spatio-temporal context is highly essential. Nizamabad, being inhabited by a population of diverse ethno-religious composition and characterized by population problems of diverse and complex nature, has been experiencing negative population growth (during 1901-1921), and positive population growth in 1921 to 2011 Most importantly, such a high growth rate of population combined with associated changing demographic and socio-economic dimensions of population in the state has significant bearing upon its socio-economic and cultural development including health and hygiene, housing and living conditions, nutritional status, sanitation, educational attainment, safe drinking water supply, etc. while studying the present socio-economic status of Nizamabad district people researcher dealt with variables such as age, language and religion, family type, formal and non-formal social status of the respondents socio-economic background of family members and sources of income etc. The city will become a trade Centre in future as it is connected well by road network. NH-44 is passing through the town. In future the industrial activity may be proposed in waste lands on the north side of the town.

Abstract: Every tribe who are living in the world has its tradition and culture. The Chin tribe, one of the Myanmar ethnic groups, also has a unique system in the marriage institution by their traditional and customary laws and practices. The marriage system of the Chin tribal group makes their cultural identities preserve and distinguish their owned traditional tribal culture and custom from the other tribes. Every society needs changes by age from time to time. These changes introduced the modernization and the transition of culture. This present paper attempts to articulate the genesis of the traditional practice of the marriage of the Chin tribe. Abstract: This study examines the influence of Board composition on the Voluntary information of listed conglomerates firms in Nigeria for the period of 2006- 2016. In order to measure the extent of voluntary information disclosure, the annual reports of the firms were analyzed through content analysis and the study analyzed the data using descriptive statistics, correlation and multiple regression technique via STATA 13.0. Findings from the study revealed that board independence, board size, audit committee meetings has positive significant relationship with the extent of voluntary information disclosure where by firm size has a negative but statistically significant relationship with the extent of voluntary information disclosure. Among others the study recommends that that listed conglomerates firms companies in Nigeria should ensure the right proportion of board members, the board size should also be optimum since it has a significant association with voluntary disclosure and this is because the amount of information to be disclosed and the time of disclosing the information are all influenced by the board of directors.

Abstract: The present research aimed to assess Mental health Wellbeing and Life Satisfaction among aged people.  The sample of the study consisted of 30 aged people, of which 15 were males and 15 were females.  Mental health wellbeing scale by Warwick- Edinburgh and Satisfaction with life by W. Pavot and E. Diener were used. Pearson's correlation and t test were used for the analysis of data. The results indicated that there is a positive correlation between mental health wellbeing and life Satisfaction among aged people. The results also revealed that there is no significance difference in mental health wellbeing and life Satisfaction among aged people with respect to their gender.

Abstract: This dialectical study explores the a priori basis of the concept of education for liberation. The study is dialectic given the nature of liberation. It is difficult to point out which philosophical underpinning best addresses the problem of liberation. However, inferring from St. Thomas’s we find that formation of stable working society is one of the reasons for human existence. From Immanuel Kant’s categorical imperative it is also clear that we should treat humanity either in our own persons or in the persons of others not only as a means but also as an end in itself. The study singles out utilitarianism and egalitarianism as the major conflicting philosophies in addressing the concept of liberation. From the two philosophies, it is argued that the best philosophical perspective is one that necessary implants in the people the desire to seek equality as a means and an end in their acts. The study demonstrates that utilitarianism leads to democratic capitalism while egalitarianism leads to cooperative socialism. Of the two philosophies, the study approves egalitarianism to be leading towards equality by virtue of it entrenching cooperative socialism. The study argues that democratic capitalism creates inequalities and classes in the society which are not in the realm of equality and as such disapproved from propagating liberation. The study recommends aligning education theories to egalitarianism to maximise on the actualisation of liberation among the recipients of education.

Abstract: Even as companies have learnt to squeeze efficiencies out of their manufacturing plants through concepts like just in time replenishment, statistical process control, and lean manufacturing practices, they still find that moving goods and services through several layers of their global supply chains is time consuming and costly.  Supply chain management and its logistics has become one of the last borderlines that remain for conquering by most organizations in the present century. This cannot be done unless all managers and supervisors, irrespective of their functional orientation and current job responsibilities, fundamentally understand their supply chains and how their effective functioning flows right down to the bottom line.  To succeed in an uncertain environment, firms must also respond to changing customer needs, and logistics flexibility is an important part of the response. The study aimed at establishing the effect of supply chain logistics functions on Customer Satisfaction in National Drought Management Authority – Kilifi. The study was guided by four specific objectives, to establish the effect of transportation on customer satisfaction, to assess the effect of warehousing on customer satisfaction, to determine the effect of inventory management on customer satisfaction and to analyze the effect of order processing on customer satisfaction. The researcher targeted 180 employees. A sample size of 54 employees was drawn for the study. The study used descriptive research design. Data was collected using questionnaires, analyzed and presented as a report. SPSS v 24 software was used for data analysis. Demographic, descriptive and inferential statistics was given in forms of tables, pie chart and graphs. The findings of the study revealed how supply chain logistics functions affect customer satisfaction since transportation reduces costs and drives efficiency across the whole supply chain.

Abstract: The article aims at effective waste management measures based on research question ‘What collection, transportation and treatment options are required to create an Integrated Solid Waste Management facility for Kalaburagi city (previously known as Gulbarga)?’ The city is often criticized for its poor waste management practices. The paper is based on a hypothesis that the Gulbarga Municipal Corporation is looking for waste management recommendations and the data required for making suggestions are collected from local case studies and international examples. Data collected is the solid waste amounts from various waste- generating sources in order to calculate the suggested waste collection containers, transport vehicles and the details of treatment facility.  Transport vehicles are categorised into primary and secondary, whereas the treatment facility consists of an incineration (waste to energy) plant, mechanical biological treatment and sanitary landfill. A conceptual design of the facility along with the material flow analyses to and also at the treatment facility helps in identifying the functionality aspects to determine its feasibility.

Abstract: Effectively capacity management is an essential concept in business operations. It involves planning, analyzing, and optimizing capacity to satisfy demand promptly and at a reasonable cost. It leads to improved service quality in the operations within an organization and advances relationships between an organization and its stakeholders. The general objective of this study was to establish the effects of strategic capacity planning techniques on the organizational performance in Kenya Government Parastatal, using a case of Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA). The specific objectives of this study were: to establish the effects of organizational structure guiding the strategic capacity planning on the performance of KEMSA in Mombasa County, to find out the influence of top management commitment to the strategic capacity planning on the performance of KEMSA, to determine the impact of the involvement of valuable knowledge in the strategic capacity planning exercise on the performance of KEMSA, Mombasa County branch and to evaluate the role of availability of funds for strategic capacity planning on the performance of KEMSA, Mombasa County branch. The study was guided by three theories, which include the institutional theory, the resource dependency theory, and the structure follows strategy theory. This study will adopt a descriptive research design. The target population consisted of various stakeholders of KEMSA Mombasa County branch. The study targeted a population of 300 respondents randomly chosen through a simple random sampling method. It will use a sample made up of 30% of the total population generating a sample size of 90 respondents. The study used open-ended and structured questionnaires to collect primary data. Drop and pick method was adopted as the procedure for data collection. Research assistants were recruited and trained on data collection techniques before they were deployed to assist in the data collection. A pilot study was conducted to establish any validity and clarity errors that may arise from the design of the questionnaires. The study used regression analysis to examine the relationship between dependent and independent variables. The researcher adhered to the principle of voluntary consent, thereby allowing the respondents to agree to participate in the research willingly. The study revealed that all respondents had education levels ranging from secondary to above secondary and therefore were able to read and respond to the questions asked appropriately. The study revealed that practices like aggregate capacity planning, capacity scheduling, valuable knowledge capacity planning, and strategic capacity planning practices had a positive effect on performance at the KEMSA Mombasa County branch.
