Abstract: Cases of examination misconduct have been on the increase in various institutions of learning across the nation, the consequence of which has put a serious dent on the image of our educational system nationally and internationally, rendering procured certificates invalid while the half-baked products are unsuitable in the expected task. Some measures have been put in place to curtail this menace but all to no avail. This study identifies parents as important stakeholder in the educational system with a major role to play in tackling this ugly trend head-long. The investigator largely employs literature review to examine parental influence on examination malpractice. Parents are challenged to wake up to their responsibility of inculcating the right value in their children at the early stage of life to enable them shun vices in their later lives. In conclusion, the study recommends parental personal development of right values, as role models, closeness to the children as well as development of interest in their educational pursuits among other things in playing their expected roles and curbing examination malpractice in our educational system.

Abstract: The study assessed support levels for placement of children with Special Needs Education in Uasin Gishu County in Rift Valley province. The objective of the study was to evaluate the level of awareness and support offered by relevant stakeholders in placement of children with Special Needs. The study adopted the theory of Planned Behaviour that relates to intention of behavior. A descriptive survey design was employed for the planning and execution of the study. Stratified, Simple Random and Purposive sampling techniques were used in choosing the sample size. The target population which is also the sample for the study included Education Officers, assessors at the education assessment centres, affected parents and Special Needs Education Teachers. The research instruments used to collect data were questionnaires, interview schedule and Observation checklist. Data collected was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The study findings revealed that the country was still far from achieving education for all as attested by the fact that over 1.8 children with SNE had not been assessed and placed in appropriate programmes despite the governments’ effort of setting up EARCs in all the districts with the aim of taking the services closer to people. The study findings are expected to benefit educational planners in recommending for allocation of more resources for training, in-service and equipping the centres for better performance, enhance sensitization of parents and general public about the functions and value of assessment centres. It is further hoped that the findings of the study will bring about greater awareness with regard to the value of the assessment centres

Abstract: This study aims at establishing the construction of the meaning of infertility. It relies on the social constructionist perspective and descriptive research design to understanding the meaning-making process and to capture characteristics of events/experiences of couples who have had difficulty getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy. The study employed the use of semi-structured questionnaires to gather information from 200 respondents, six Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) comprising of 10-12 individuals and thirty six (36) Key Informant Interviews (KIIs). The study disclosed that the concept of infertility bears strong social, cultural and economic undertones. In particular, infertility is given negative labels embedded in the community’s socio-cultural set up. The study concludes that the meaning of infertility has to do with the reasons/factors behind childbearing. In Kisumu County, children are quite vital and not predictive of the residents’ experiences but also their future. The meaning of infertility is thus extended to include concerns about family lineage. The study recommends for a comprehensive education program within Kisumu County aimed at filling the existing knowledge gap about infertility and any myths associated with it. It also calls for the need to re-define parenthood and adopt alternative ways of parenting like foster care.

Abstract: Village Health and Nutrition Days (VHNDs) are a major initiative access to maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition (MNCHN) services at the village level. Across the country, VHNDs are intended to occur in every village once a month usually at the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or other suitable location. AWCs are a central feature of the Ministry of Women and Child Development’s flagship Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) programme. VHNDs provide a basket of health and nutrition services and counselling to the community on a pre-designated day, time and place. The study was undertaken in selected 8 villages of Primary Health Centre, Bahadarabad of district Haridwar in Uttarakhand. Based on the population of the respective villages and the norm of selecting an ASHA for approximately 1000 population, 20 ASHA have been selected in these 8 villages. All of these ASHA had undergone the initial induction training on VHNC.The study found that all VHNDs were organized at Anganwadi centers which are well-known place for everyone in the community. The day (Saturday) has already fixed however time and duration were not well communicate to the community. Generally, VHND were organized between 11 am to 2 pm however many places, providers changes the time of VHND which decreases the participation of the clients. The study also indicated that in the selected village, VHNC members also not aware about VHSNC and also not playing any role in VHND. All VHNDs attracted pregnant and lactating women, children below 5 years and adolescent girls from the villages. Awareness was widespread: majority of percent of currently pregnant women knew of VHNDs. The vast majority of these women knew both the date and location of VHNDs in their area. Pregnant and recently delivered women attended VHNDs in large numbers however they did not received a variety of services. Seventy-five percent of recently delivered women in the selected villages had availed limited services during VHNDs.
It is important to strengthen multiple systems to achieve improvements in VHNDs. Efforts focused on orienting CHC and PHC in charge and frontline workers to the guidelines and their roles, strengthening supervision, using a structured checklist to monitor VHNDs, using data for programmatic decision-making and ensuring platforms for convergence. All of these aspects collectively contributed to increasing the coverage and quality of VHNDs.

Abstract: The challenge of agricultural finance for most of the financial institution dealing with small scale farmers in the sub Saharan Africa is the high cost of financing rural smallholder farmers. The dairy industry in Kenya contributes 14 percent of agricultural GDP and 3.5 percent of total GDP GOK, (2008). Milk production is predominantly by small scale farmers, who own one to three dairy animals, and produce about 80 percent of the milk in the country KDB, (2009). Mobile money payments by farmers provides the transactional leveraging on branchless banking distribution channel for mobile banking credit, savings and micro insurance products. This study sought to fill the gap in the literature on financial inclusion by analysing the contribution of mobile use in payments of their loans among small scale dairy farmers in the microfince sector Nakuru County, Kenya. The study sample comprised of 165 dairy farmers’ borrowers from Micro Kenya. Data was collected through questionnaire, focus groups, and key informant interviews and both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to analyse the data. The study findings made an attempt at predicting current mobile payment channels have the potential to improve the repayment rate of small scale dairy farmers by cutting down travel costs and increase in accessibility. The study findings indicate that mobile phones have significantly changed the way financial institutions conduct their services. Abstract: Incessant reports on a particular issue leads the content of news towards sensationalism. Global media outlets tempt to sensationalize news stories aimed to gain more revenues and higher ratings for the sake of fame, viewership, reputation and completion with other news media agencies. The notable point is, with sensationalized report not only the integrity of the news agencies is under question, also the reliability of news content will be downgraded. Thus, this tendency has paved the way to the changes in the perception among people by making their judgments ambiguous and invalid. In particular, Malaysia is a place where people from various sects and religions live in harmony and peace. Small portion of negative beliefs or unreliable reports on any religions or group can endanger the peace process in the nation. Therefore, this paper investigated the perception of Malaysian non-Muslims towards media reliability coverage concerning Islam and Muslims. The result indicates that non-Muslims in Malaysia are well informed on the content quality and reliability of the news reports. Therefore, what have been reported by various international news agencies on Muslims and Islam is in contradiction with the perceptions of non-Muslims in Malaysia. Non-Muslims Malaysian perspective on Islam and Muslims reflects a positive image that shows Muslims as, cooperative, non-extremist, non-interfering and tolerance.

Abstract: Forest plantations started in Tanzania during the German period and were further developed during the British colonial period and postcolonial period. Forest plantation was carried out on both a large scale owned by the government for commercial purposes and a small scale run by Native Authorities for use by African communities surrounding them. The establishment of forest reserves involved the alienation and demarcation of large portions of land that in effect resulted in changing land use habits of land formerly used for other activities, like peasant farming and livestock herding. The adjustments made in pastoralism, peasant subsistence farming and human settlements were unavoidable outcomes of the establishment of forest plantations. This paper uses archival, oral and secondary sources to show the dynamics in land use change in the studied areas. We argue in this paper that, forest plantations in both colonial and post-colonial Tanzania, created new forms of land use that could not be sustained in the older practices of land use. We use Sao-Hill Forest Plantation (SHFP) located in Mufindi–Iringa region and Kilimanjaro Forest Plantation (KFP) including West, North and South Forest Plantations located in Kilimanjaro region to show the impacts of the establishment of forest plantations on land use practices by societies surrounding them.
