Abstract: Entrepreneurs have a missionary zeal to create a world class organisation. With very limited resources they flow against the current to achieve their objectives. Schumpeter viewed Entrepreneurship as Constructive Destruction. Peter Drucker viewed an entrepreneur as some-one who actually searches for change, responds to it, and exploits change as an opportunity. A successful entrepreneur transforms a threat into an opportunity. Most observers are in consonance with the fact that entrepreneurship is a vital element for improving capital investments, creating jobs and thus acting as a catalyst for growth in economy of a country. This fact is more true in developing economies where successful small businesses are the primary engines of job creation, income growth, and poverty reduction. Successful entrepreneurs come in various ages, income levels, gender, and race though differing in education and experience. But research indicates that most successful entrepreneurs share certain personal attributes, including: creativity, dedication, determination, flexibility, leadership, passion, self-confidence and smart work. The case study attempts to study the entrepreneur streak in Mr. H. S Cheema who started Cheema Boilers Ltd and tries to find out the reasons for his success. Was it innovation, risk taking capacity, never say die spirit, perseverance, team building, leadership qualities of Mr. Cheema or was it something else which helped to create and nurture a world class organisation in a short span of time. Keywords: Entrepreneurship, boilers, innovation, team, growth, risk taking.

Abstract: Since the beginning of translation practice in about 300 BC (Horguelin, 1982), foreignization and domestication (understood simply as source-text and target-text-oriented translation respectively) have often been used as translation strategies, notably in the translation of prose, poetry and drama. More often than not, they have been prescribed, and sometimes used as though they were or are mutually exclusive; that is to say the use of one excludes the use of the other. However, over the more than two millennia of a mixture of translation practice and theory, these somehow standard translation strategies have always been used mutually and complementarily, either consciously or unconsciously. In other words, for all types of translation, whether specialized or general, their use has always been shared to varying degrees. This otherwise means that there is and there has always been some proportional relationship or interaction between foreignization and domestication as far as every translation type is concerned. This paper sets out to examine this relationship or interaction by presenting part of the findings of a study of the use of foreignization and domestication as translation strategies in prose, poertry and drama. More specifically, the study examined foreignization and domestication as used in the English translations of Ferdinand Oyono’s Le vieux nègre et la médaille, Mongo Beti’s Mission terminée (prose), Aimé Césaire’s Cahier d’un retour au pays natal (poetry) and Samuel Beckett’s En attendant Godot (drama). This study was within the purview of my doctoral thesis on Creativity in Prose, Poetry and Drama Translation.

Abstract: Indian Society thrives on contradictions. The field of labour is a bundle of contradictions. Even since Mark Holmstrom, an Australian Sociologist of labour introduced a dichotomy between organized labour and unorganized labour it has become a persistence source of great deal of discussion, debate and discourse among Sociologists, labour economists, social anthropologists and labour activists. The fommer has been dubbed as "labour aristocracy" who has used labour unions to gain wide range of benefits and privileges even at the cost of their less fortunate counterpart the unorganized labour.

Abstract: Gibbon’s History of the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire captures autocracy proper. It reiterates an era when physical might superseded the intellectual. During this era, government was assumed by the individual. Paine on the other hand, rejected utterly Accordingly the individual as government. He argues that the collective is the essence of government, one that is brought about by the Constitution. In building his arguments, Paine expounded that though the Magna Carter set out certain principles, it was not intrinsically a Constitution. He saw it as granting rights to a few, as opposed to the collective. Though ancient Roman emperors were above all tyrannical, it is vital to bear in mind that tyranny resulted from the moral deficit of the despot as opposed to the ill structure of government. Specifically, they had in place a system of balance and checks., modern democracy derived from these same arrangements, one that has by large guaranteed the Rights Of Man. Progress was brought about by rejecting inherited authority. In rejecting all forms of inherited authority, Paine emphasized that inherited authority elevates the incompetent over those who truly possess the capacity to govern. The order, technological advancements, medicine, improved agriculture, greater understanding of our planet would not have transpired if man had not the right to act on his dispositions. Thus, autocracy is not only incompatible with the rights of man, it is inherently incompatible with the nature of mankind.

Abstract: Even as cases of neglect and abandonment of elders in families soar, there is little awareness about the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens (MWPSC) Act 2007 that gives powers of intervention and enforcement to revenue department officials in these cases. The purpose of this study is to examine the relation between the number of cases registered under the MWPSC Act 2007 and various census statistics using factor analysis. The study finds a significant relationship between elderly population of a district and number of cases registered. There also exists a significant positive relationship between per capita income and total number of cases registered which is a counter-intuitive result. It proves that there is a stronger significant relationship between households with 2 or more than 2 senior citizens and number of cases registered when compared to households with just 1 senior citizen.

Abstract: This research paper attempts to study the perspective of a student regarding the Education System of India. Most of the times, students are pressurized either by parents or society in general to work hard and participate in the mad rat race. However, they tend to forget the ill effects of constant pressure and comparison on their kids. This paper includes the detailed analysis of the novel ‘Mediocre but Arrogant’ by Abhijit Bhaduri and throws light on the problems of India Education System of India. It also highlights the fact that constant pressure and competition in the educational institutions make the students either dull or over confident. Students tend to create shortcuts in order to deal with assignments and examination system. This paper also draws a parallel between novel and the movie ‘3 Idiots’ by Rajkumar Hirani and highlights the plight of students. Government of India can make few significant changes if they consider pupil’s voice while making amendments.

Abstract: This study investigates the invisibility of housewives contributions to families as a way of understanding the roles of women in household upkeep in Delta State, Nigeria using a gender analysis approach. The specific objectives of the study were to find out if women contribute to the household in Delta State, the nature of their contributions, whether the contributions of housewives are recognised and appreciated and reasons for lack of recognition and to know the perception of housewives about the invisibility of their contributions to the family. A combination of quantitative and qualitative methods such as questionnaires, in-depth interviews and focus groups discussions were used in a survey design. The result from the study revealed that women contribute greatly to household upkeep even though their contributions most times are unrecognised and invisible leading to bad feeling on the part of housewives which dampened their spirit of productivity in their homes. The paper concluded men should see women as partners and that the works of housewives been recognised to minimise issue of gender inequality and bring about a fair society where both wives as well as their husbands will be happy; in order to bring about a balance development devoid of injustice and gender inequality.

Abstract: This paper presents a detailed analysis of the Belgian production of the English version of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard performed for the Dublin Theatre Festival (DTF) in 2015. It is divided into two (2) major parts. Following the trajectory of their meaning-making process through the study of all theatrical elements in the making of a coherent performance, the first part is guided by the theories of McAuley (1999) and Pavis (2013) as well as their proposed schemas of performance analysis. The more-thematic second part emphasises on the manifestations of the notions of liminality and carnival as proposed by Turner (1967) and Bakhtain (1984). Because Michael Frayn demonstrated a complex understanding of Chekhov’s (1986) work and his characters in his introduction of the volume, his translation of the play is selected for textual references.

Abstract: The Resource Based Perspective is an emerging competitive strategy which emphasizes that for a firm to gain competitive advantage it has to also focus on its internal firm specific factors hereby referred to as resources. Before its emergence the mainstream theory of competitive advantage was externally focused, that is, different strategies that capitalized on the opportunities in the firm’s environment. This research project was set up to assess the extent to which JKUAT uses the Resource Based Perspective as a competitive strategy. The study also looked at the challenges JKUAT has been experiencing in the implementation of RBP competitive strategy. The study collected data on different aspects of RBP from the chairmen of departments. This is because they are the individuals who are involved in the basic administrative unit of the university, and regulate the resource acquisitions, improvements and deficiencies. The study was analyzed using the mean, standard deviation, percentages and Eigen Values. The use of RBP in JKUAT has been evidenced by the internal adjustment strategies like the cultural change, consideration of resources availability before strategy implementation and steady increase in its resources. The study also showed that the use of RBP as a competitive strategy has increased JKUAT’s competitiveness in the market. The challenges have been JKUAT’s processes and structures which have hindered maximum benefits of RBP. In conclusion, the study realized that JKUAT uses RBP to a moderate extent to counter market forces and competition.

Abstract: This paper is an attempt to describe the linguistic taboos related to woman and their euphemistic expressions in Oromo societies within the framework of face and polite theory. Focus group discussion and interview are used to gather the data of this study. Taboo is any word or expression that if mentioned in public causes embarrassment and feeling of shame or sense of shock, and offending the hearer’s sensibilities or beliefs; while euphemistic expression is the substitution of an offensive expression by another softer, more ambiguous expression, or a periphrastic one to avoid these taboo expressions which offend the hearers. In Oromo societies there are different taboo words/expressions considered as taboo related to woman. Taboos related to the word ‘woman’ itself, virginity, pregnancy, delivery and menstruation are considered in this paper. This study paves the way to inform the reader about taboo words/expressions related to woman and the mechanism of substituting them by polite expressions in Oromo. If this norm is violated/the direct taboo words or expressions are spoken in front of the woman, she may be shocked or feel embarrassment. This circumstance again raises another conflict among speaker and hearer. In order to avoid this problem, this paper contributes a great role for everybody comes from different culture and wants to know Oromo culture/language as well as taboos related to woman and how to substitute polite expressions instead of these forbidden words/expressions.

Abstract: In the context of globalization is as to how women’s changing economic status has been translated into redefining gender relations and empowerment aspects. Not only do women workers face low wages and discrimination, but they also have to combine multiple tasks such as domestic work, childcare as well as multiple jobs. There has been very little alleviation of domestic drudgery both in rural and in urban areas for low-income women. Increasing emphasis on cost cutting has also led to erosion of many institutions for labour welfare, and women constitute the worst hit of all categories. During the period of globalization in the 1990s, there is a growing suspicion that violence against women in all spheres has markedly increased. On the whole, it seems that women workers suffer multiple vulnerability, under the new globalization and liberalization regime.

Abstract: The current study revolves around the childhood issues and aims to find whether parental maltreatment impacts the general adjustment, social adjustment and emotional adjustment. The basic premise is the notion that as the parenting quality deteriorates adjustment also decreases. A correlation study was conducted on 15 male and 15 female children studying in English medium schools in Indore. It was found on comparing the Pearson’s correlation coefficient of both adjustment and mothering fathering and parenting that there exists a moderate negative linear correlation among parental maltreatment and different types of adjustment. The study further emphasises that a good atmosphere at home which includes parental support and care can help the children grow to achieve better adjustment at social and emotional front thus lead a better life.
