Abstract: The analyses of armed conflict revealed that children are invisible and are typically regarded as passive, incidental victims or inconsequential actors. In any internal armed conflict or intrastate, ethno-political conflicts, however, minors play an increasing role both as soldiers and along with other non-combatants, as targets and victims in fighting at the community level. This article seeks to explore the impacts of armed conflict on minors. By examining the impact, the article argues that conflicts affect minors in two main ways-direct and indirect. The article does not only limit itself to the impact but also investigate the reasons why minors do get involved in armed conflicts. The impact raised in this section pushes the article to delve into the available law on the subject that can be used to remedy the situation of minors during and after non-international conflict.

Abstract: The present experimental study was undertaken with two objectives in view (i) to apply learner centred techniques in teaching and learning of Computer Science at plus one level and (ii) to measure the effectiveness of learned centred techniques with special reference to various categories of students. Two matched groups of students were constituted for the purpose of this experiment. Each group consisted of ten above average students, ten average students and ten below average students. The control group was taught through the traditional lecture method while the experimental group learnt through the learner centred techniques. The obtained results show that the learner centred technique was more effective than the traditional lecture method in teaching and learning Computer Science at plus one level and it enabled the below average students to cope with the average students and the above average students to a considerable extent.

Abstract: Student mental health is of immense public health importance, factors are associated with student’s mental health and their success in school. Mental health problems affect around one. They range from common problems such as depression and anxiety, to rarer problems such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. The major purpose of study was to investigate the mental health problem of woman students.  Three hundred women students selected using survey method.  Results were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and t-test.  From the findings it was observed that there was significant difference between mental health problems of women students at background variables. The study recommended that the state of mind is necessary for normal social functioning.

Abstract: The study examines the impact of pupil’s proximity to school in relation to their academic performance. Structured questionnaire was developed and administered to the pupils to extract information on the pupils’ home addresses while the performance of the pupils was obtained from their terminal examination. Google imagery, and the Global Positioning System (GPS) was used to establish the student home location which enabled the calculation of distances as a crow flies from the school to the pupils home location within the study area. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the relationship between pupils’ proximity to school and their academic performance. Giving a p value of .814 finding reveals that pupils distance to school does no determine their academic performance. Other factors such as lateness to school, family background, and family size could influence their academic performance. The study therefore recommends that researchers should pay attention on the other factors spelt out in other to ascertain the factors that contribute most to the academic performance of the children.

Abstract: The study aims at investigating the effect of the progressive writing program on enhancing the university students' descriptive essay writing. Achieving this goal, the study adopted the experimental method. Pretest posttest found suitable tools for collecting the data for the study. The sample of the study was selected randomly out of the population. The subject was given the pretest at the beginning of the semester and given the posttest at the end of the intervention. The data then collected and analysed. The findings of the study are: There is a remarkable and significant enhancement on the students' descriptive essay writing. There is a correlation between the pretest and posttest results. This indicates that the study achieved its objectives. The pretest and posttest cover different aspects of writing: spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and organizations in the students’ descriptive essay, and the study showed a very good and remarkable development concerning this side. The remedial progressive program has a big role in solving the problems found in the students' pretest writing. There a significant correlation between the pretest and posttest and that is clear in the marks of both. Based on these findings, the study recommends: Students' abilities of the same level are different so considering this point is very important while designing pretest posttest. Progressive writing session and interventions are highly needed and over genaralised specially for the first levels, to get the required development on the students' writing ability. Instructors should run the whole writing process in the class, monitor their students, give and check assignments.

Abstract: The poverty situation in Africa, especially in Nigeria has triggered researchers across the globe in recent years, and various findings of their efforts were quite revealing.  For example, poverty measurement from income and consumption perspective have revealed that there is high incidence, depth and severity of poverty in Nigeria. However, little work has been done on poverty using a subjective poverty measurement approach. The nature of poverty cannot be captured by a single income-based or consumption-based indicator. The poor also has a voice, that is; the way they perceive poverty. Hence this study focused on poverty profile of rural households in Ekiti State, Nigeria: using subjective poverty measurement approach. Three local governments area were sampled for this study and a total of 120 rural households were interviewed with the aid of structured questionnaire, while descriptive statistics was used to analyze the data. The findings revealed among others that: majority (82%) of the respondents considered themselves poor, while only 18% were non-poor. The major ways of perceiving poverty in the study area were: inability to feed households, lack of stable job, and lack of dignity. Therefore, Governments and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) should take the perceptions of poverty among the rural households into consideration in their poverty alleviation programmes, and they should sensitize rural dwellers on effective family planning, birth control measures and sanitation.

Abstract: This Study examined incidence of rural poverty in Ekiti State, Nigeria. 120 rural households were sampled across the state and interviewed with the aid of well- structured questionnaire. Foster, Greer and Thorbecke (FGT) poverty index was used to depict the extent of poverty among the rural households. The poverty aversion parameters employed were P0, P1, and P2 which means poverty incidence (headcount), gap (depth) and severity respectively. The incidence of poverty was 0.7378 and this implies that 73.8% of the sampled rural households were actually poor based on the poverty line. The poverty gap was 0.5725 indicating that about 57.3% of the poverty line is required by the poor households to escape poverty. While, the poverty severity among the sampled rural households was 0.4775, indicating that the poverty severity of poor households was 47.8%. The study established the fact that majority of rural households in the State were poor. Participation in social groups should be encouraged among the rural dwellers, belonging to such groups have beneficial effects which could positively influence the poverty status of the rural households.

Abstract: Road traffic accident injuries affect 20 to 50 million people worldwide every year, causing premature death or disability as well as incurring large costs to individuals and society. A descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted to study the epidemiological pattern of road traffic accidents in Hodeida city, Yemen.  It included (384) victims of road traffic accidents. The proportion of road traffic accident cases was 11% from the total patients whom admitted to emergency departments of hospitals, about One third (32.3%) were between 25 – 44 years age group, and 89.6% were males. About 32.8% had primary and intermediate education. (35.4%) occurred between 12 noon and 6 pm. Most of them in September (14.6%), the majority (56%) of the victims were using two-wheeled motorcycle, and pedestrians were the most frequent category of road users (36.5%). The majority of accidents occurred due to road condition at intersections (35%), most accidents due to sunny weather 40.1%. Most of the causes of traffic accidents were due to high speed (34.1%), drivers’ negligence (14.3%) and negligent road crossing. We recommended that the public road safety campaigns should be conducted, new driving license system should be imposed.

Abstract: The 21^st Christian ministry is bombarded with myriads of challenges. This is a century that has a lot of issues which the word of God must address. Unfortunately, the 21^st century church in Nigeria is faced with superficial, shallow and lopsided messages resulting in spiritual dwarfism of members. Even though there is geometrical growth of church, there is no corresponding growth in moral rectitude. The society is filled with nominal Christians who at the experience of least temptation from the devil fall into defeat.  Expository messages that would result in producing strong believers are scarce on most pulpits. There is the need for a paradigm shift from traditional topical preaching for more in-depth expository preaching. Expository preaching needs to be inculturated in order to minister to the needs of Nigerians. The inculturation expository preaching is the preaching that addresses the socio-cultural factors of the Nigerians without compromising the revealed biblical truth. The work employed historical method to execute its thesis.  It examined the meaning of inculturation expository preaching, the interplay of hermeneutics and exegesis, assumptions expositor work with in inculturation expository preaching, characteristics of inculturation expository preaching, qualities of inculturation expository preaching, four kinds of expository preaching, benefits of inculturation expository preaching, interplay of expository preaching and socio-cultural factor, practical guidelines for inculturation expository preaching and summary, conclusion and recommendations.

Abstract: Studies have indicated a situation where despite the existence of monitoring and evaluation in various countries including Brazil, Colombia, South Africa and in Kenya, the practice has not been fully institutionalized.  The purpose of this research was to establish the factors that contributed towards the institutionalization of M&E system in county governments with a special reference to Mombasa County. This was because current literature on M&E had not fully explored how to have a sustainable and fully institutionalized monitoring and evaluation system by way of ignoring some fundamental issues such as institutional pressures and leadership styles. The research was founded on four research objectives; establishing the relationship between institutional pressures and institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation practices in Mombasa County, establishing the relationship between leadership styles and institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation practices in Mombasa County as well as examining the relationship between resource characteristics and institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation practices in Mombasa County. Further, the research sought to establish if top county management support had a bearing on institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation practices in Mombasa County. Institutionalization is an aspect deeper than mere implementation. The research is descriptive in nature. Data was collected by means of questionnaires through filling Likert type items. Analysis was done by SPSS software and MS excel. The findings on the first objective were that both internal and external pressures are associated with institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation and this is congruent with other studies. On the second objective it was established that transformational leadership style was more appropriate than transactional leadership style in support of some studies and contrast to others. On the third objective, both resources were appropriate but tangible resources were more relevant in institutionalization of monitoring and evaluation practices.Top management moderated the effect. Its recommended that adequate pressure should be exerted onto the institution by the stakeholders, transformational leadership style should be dominant, adequate resources should be made available and top management of the county must positively influence the process of M&E institutionalization.

Abstract: Organization’s success and sustained competitive advantage depend on appropriate human resources (HR) strategies that promote employee well-being and care to foster employees’ personal initiatives and proactive behavior. Prior research suggests that HPWP increase employees’ knowledge, skills, and abilities and the result is greater job satisfaction, enhanced commitment, lower employee turnover, and improved employee performance. The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between High Performance Work Practices and employee Performance at Mumias Sugar Company (MSC). The specific objectives were to determine how extensive training, flexible work arrangements, information sharing, selective hiring and managerial support influence employee Performance at Mumias Sugar Company. Survey research design was carried out at Mumias Sugar Company. Descriptive research design was used. Primary data was collected by use of questionnaires while secondary data was collected from journals, books and reports. Data was analyzed through descriptive statistics (frequencies, percentages, mean and standard deviation) using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Inferential statistics was also used in analysis. A target population of 366 management staff was covered by a sample of 186 employees basing on Krejcie and Morgan formula for determination of sample size of research activity. Overall finding was that high performance work practices have a positive relationship on employee performance at MSC. There was a positive relationship between extensive training, flexible work arrangements, information sharing, selective hiring and managerial support on employeeperformance.

Abstract: Cancer is now recognized globally as one of the leading non-communicable diseases. Each year about half a million women develop invasive cancer of the uterine cervix, with more than 80% occurring in low-income countries. This study assessed Knowledge, Attitudes and Socio- cultural Practices that influence the control of cervical cancer among women in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. Data was collected using a semi-structured questionnaire, interview schedules with key informants and focus group discussions. SPSS statistical software was used to generate statistical parameters like mean, standard deviation, etc. The chi square test was used as a test of significance and a Level of significance below 0.05 was considered to determine the association. Multiple logistic regression analysis with odds ratio at 95% confidence interval was utilized. Preventive measures identified; Pap smear 62% (n=225), vaccination 16.5% (n=60), drugs 8% (n=29) and HPV testing 3.9% (n=14). 35.5% (n=142) of the participants had ever been screened. The predictors of cervical cancer control interventions reception were; education, marital status, employment status, ethnicity, having heard of cervical cancer, knowing someone with cervical cancer, knowing cervical cancer preventive measures, having someone recommend testing, age at first sexual activity and trust for conventional methods of cervical cancer control. Barriers to reception were; gender of heath care provider, traditional herbal medicine, perception of not being at risk, pain associated with screening and the private nature of cervical cancer. There is need to develop clear and simple educational messages about cervical cancer and the screening test that can easily be understood by women in order to enhance reception to cervical cancer control interventions.
