Abstract: The study aimed to investigate on the lived experiences of adolescent fathers in school. The multi-case study employed phenomenology method of data gathering and thematic analysis in analyzing results for each relevant question. Data were obtained through interview-guides. Results revealed the following that most of the young fathers is very supportive to his family and take fully responsibility by giving them the needs of their family in spite being a student. Almost of the young fathers participants joys, inspirations and give meaning to their lives why they continue their education are there babies. Young father’s difficulties encountered when they had no milk to feed for their babies and when their babies got sick. Their parents are the gift of God to them. They help, support and always stay at their side to support their studies and families spiritually and financially. Finally, the ecological perspective provided the framework to observe the role family influence, peer factors, and environmental influences played in the adolescent father’s conceptualization and enactment of fatherhood.

Abstract: This research is aimed to test the effect of interest, self confidence, and self efficacy on study achievement in Basic Training of Agricultural Extension by partial and simultaneous to determine dominant variable, direct effect, indirect effect, and total effect. This research was held in BBPP Batangkaluku, South Sulawesi Province. Total population 90<100 so the total sample same as population. Research methods is quantitative by regression linear multivariate analysis with Backward method combined with correlation Pearson and analysis then processed with statistical package social science (SPSS) 20.00. Research result showed simultaneous effect of study interest, self confidence, and self efficacy on study achievement  are significant positive, partial effect of study interest, self confidence, and self efficacy also significant positive on study achievement, self efficacy variable is more dominant than  study interest and self confidence on self confidence. Study interest by self efficacy indirectly has significant effect on study achievement and self confidence by self efficacy has direct significant effect on self confidence. The conclusion of this research is hypothesis about there is effect of study interest and self confidence on self efficacy and the impact on study achievement can be accepted.

Abstract: The study investigated the relationship between Management of Students’ Personnel Services and Student’s Academic Performance in Tertiary Institutions in Akwa Ibom State. Three research objectives and research questions were raised and three null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted Ex-post Facto Design. The study population consisted of all the 31,451 students in four public tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom State.  Four hundred and twenty nine (429) students were used as sample representing 2% of the study population using Multi stage sampling approach. Data collection was done with the use of a researcher developed questionnaire titled “Management of Students’ Personnel Services Questionnaire (MSPSQ) and  students’ academic result in General Studies (GSTs)” The reliability coefficient of the instruments were established using Cronbach Alpha and Pearson’s Product Moments Correlation coefficient (r), the reliability indices for both instruments were .78 and .78 respectively. Mean, standard deviation and the coefficient of the Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to answer the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Analysis was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance The result of the study revealed that; there is a significant relationship between accommodation services, library services, transport services and students’ academic performance in tertiary institutions in Akwa Ibom State. It was concluded that students personnel services relates significantly to students’ academic performance. The study therefore recommends among others that the state and federal government should disburse enough funds to tertiary institutions in order to aid their provision of these services and effective management of students’ personnel services.

Abstract: There is no doubt that political parties are indispensable institutions to the operation of democratic governance in any polity. This paper explored into an essential aspect of Nigeria’s political parties in contemporary period, which is, consensus building towards sustainable democracy in the country. From a descriptive perspective, the paper argued that for political parties to contribute towards the attainment of sustainable democracy in contemporary Nigeria, there is need for consensus building among the political elite and between them and the masses in the society coupled with party discipline, institutionalization and transparency. From this, some research questions were posed, viz: How have Nigerian political parties fared with regards to consensus building conducive to sustainable democracy in the country? What measures could help facilitate society-wide agreements by Nigerian political parties? The paper noted that Nigerian political parties have not measured up when examined against these parameters. A cursory assessment of the activities of political parties in the Nigeria’s fourth democratic republic revealed that they lacked commitment to consensus politics capable of engendering sustainable democracy in the country. To this end, the paper recommended among others, that the political parties should be transparent in the selection of candidates for the various elective offices as well as avoid imposition of candidates on the masses. Moreover, political parties must be typically institutionalized, internally democratic, disciplined, and free from godfathers influence.

Abstract: United States International University offers a course that requires students who major in International Relations to cross boarders to regional countries that have frequent civil conflicts such as Rwanda, Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo. The particular class visits either two or one of these countries for a range of eight to ten days. The course helped students, especially those majoring in International Relations, know the significance and purpose as to why the institutions offers this course and requires the particular students to study and not only know better about the countries but to also witness the happenings of certain circumstances and gain facts instead of ‘stories’ told. The class of Spring 2016 visited Rwanda and Uganda from the 5th March, 2016 to the 13th March, 2016 it did not give the ability to only view the sites of Kigali and Rwanda but to also learn a few different languages such as Kinyarwanda. Taking part in the Field Study with my colleague and my other colleague, who is a Rwandese citizen made us intrigued to find out more about what happened before and after the genocide in Rwanda and its development as a state. As students of International Relations, it’s important to recognize the institutions and the other states that were also involved in the conflict resolution and the stability of the country today in terms of its social relations, economic stability as well as their political stability with the help of gathered information before; during the Field Study and interacting with citizens of the state.

Abstract: This study explored the lived experiences of Filipino college students in an Effective Communication course focusing particularly on their speaking performances. This phenomenological study employed Husserlian’s bracketing and Colazzi’s steps in data analysis. After a thorough analysis and reflection, four themes were made. These are the following: (coping strategies), nervousness and anxiousness, being prepared and composed, and the impact of speaking experiences and communication strategies. Also, it was found out that participants faced common challenges such as: speech preparation, memorization or familiarization, and spontaneity. Their public speaking anxiety came from varied sources like public speaking skills, English language skills, emotional predispositions, and the public speaking situation itself. They faced common challenges in every speaking activity; however, they had their ways or strategies in overcoming them. They chose to perform despite the feeling of nervousness. They described their whole experience as a step by step learning process to becoming good communicators or closer to it. Most participants were not into speaking before the crowd but the experiences served as gateways of improving their self-confidence and communication skills. Effective classroom activities that will enhance the students’ speaking abilities can be created and utilized.

Abstract: Naturally, mining business is so expensive that without access to bank loan it would be difficult for mining companies to significantly improve their performance. The main objective of this research was to investigate the contribution of bank credit on performance of mining companies in Rwanda using a case study of RMA. The results from the study are mainly based on primary data collected from a sample of 122 companies that was selected in a population size of 176 mining companies. Questionnaires and semi structured interviews were used to collect both qualitative and quantitative data from the field and it was entered and analyzed using SPSS. The overall findings from the study have shown that bank credit has a positive impact on mining sector performance in Rwanda. It was shown that bank credit has helped mining companies to improve their performance at all levels especially in mineral production and environmental protection. The results have also shown that mining companies suffer from low access to bank credit as for every 100 mining companies who requested bank loan, only few of them (31.5%) have got it while the majority of them (68.5%) were refused bank loan. The study has recommended all actors in mining to put together their efforts for solving the issue of low access to bank loan for mining companies.

Abstract: This study, “Nigerian newspapers’ use of discursive strategies as tools to enhance message credibility in editorials on the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013” sought to analyse the frequency and nature of the use of discursive strategies by The Guardian and Daily Trust newspapers’ editorials in their arguments and contributions to public opinion on Nigeria’s Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013. The study drew a sample of 36 issues of the two newspapers for analysis. Among other findings, it established that Nigerian newspaper editorials employed discursive strategies in all their editorial content on the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act, 2013 with the highest discursive strategy category being interpretation and the lowest being commendation. However, the use of advocacy as a strategy was below average. The study therefore recommends that more advocacy be built into Nigerian newspaper editorials on public policies by media practitioners as this would enhance the quality of newspaper contribution to public opinion on public policies in the country.

Abstract: This Article seeks to find out the role of peace in development, arguing that for development to effectively take place, peace must co-exist in a state. The article will base on case studies from Rwanda and Somalia to explain if indeed peace is an essential part to development. Is it in the case of most states that fought for peace or in the case of Rwanda that sunk into genocide in 1992.Does it apply to today’s developing countries?

The article also seeks to look into the turnaround measures that have been done in this two states. What are the steps and what can we pick or what lessons can we learn from those states that have done proper turn around. Wars in the recent past as seen has slowed down development not only in the state fighting but to the region as well. Take a good example of the Democratic Republic of Congo, the state is still experiencing slow at some point no growth at all. Neighboring states like Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi were and still are affected since military support will be required to stabilize peace, in the case of Rwanda most neighboring countries experienced massive in flow of refugees especially Kenya seeking refuge , increasing the population of the country and with minimal resources to feed the increase.

Two nations that were both ravaged internal conflict, with one arising to the challenge whereas the other still engulfed by decades of civil conflict. This article seeks to understand what could be the problem as to why one is still grappling in poverty, while the other is rising first overtaking nations in Africa.

Title: The Role of Peace in Development: A Comparative Study of Rwanda and Somalia

Abstract: The UNHCR was initially mandated to protect and resettle refugees that had accumulated in Europe following the aftermath of the first and second world wars. It was formed in1951 by the Refugee Convention. Since its inception, it has succeeded in resettling majority of the refugees that were displaced in Europe, and the convention was later revised in 1967 to remove the geographical restraints that restricted it to Europe alone. Over the years, its mandate has grown to take care of refugees all over the world, significantly during the decolonization of Africa, and in some cases to take care of internally displaced persons. With the rising influx of refugees into Europe in recent years, human rights abuses have been leveled at refugees, this article seeks to understand the role of the UNHCR in the protection of refugees and the challenges the organization is facing. In addition, recommendations to deal with these challenges will be given.

Abstract: The indistinctness of Africa as a key strategic partner to the United Stated has been highlighted by the different foreign policy approaches that United States has subscribed to over the years. This paper therefore analyses the varied approaches that the United States has taken in the path of achieving its national interest while engaging with Africa over the years. Through the lenses of the different regimes, priorities of the United States have kept changing but of convergence are the matters pertaining to its national security and state interest. This paper therefore concludes that Africa is a stronger strategic partner to the United States than it is perceived. The strength and relevance of this continent is further cited from the lenses of the efforts that US has put in their foreign policies to place Africa in the global map arena.

Abstract: Phonological processes are known to characterize unintelligible speech. The present study is aimed at identifying the type of phonological processes characteristic in children with repaired cleft lip and palate (RCLP) and their relation with speech understandability. The study consisted of ten native Kannada speaking children with RCLP between the ages of 3 to 4 years.  A ten minute conversation sample was collected from each of the child which was rated by experienced speech pathologists for speech understandability. Based on their rating the children were grouped into mild and severe groups. Further Kannada Photo Diagnostic Articulation Test was administered and the responses were analyzed for the presence of phonological processes using sound by sound analysis. The guidelines in Computerized Assessment of Phonological Processes in Kannada was used to identify the phonological processes.  Later the frequency of occurrence of the processes identified was calculated and its relationship with speech understandability rating was analyzed. The study revealed that there are specific phonological processes which characterize the speech of  children with Kannada speaking children with RCLP  viz.,  initial consonant deletion, medial consonant deletion, medial syllable deletion, cluster substitution, retroflex fronting, backing, gliding, progressive assimilation, regressive assimilation and  idiosyncratic processes. Also, it was noted that the frequency of phonological processes was higher in the children with severe speech understandability rating compared to mild group. The reasons for such findings are discussed.

Abstract: The largest country in Africa has nearly a uniform population. Arab Sunni Muslims comprise fully 99% of the 41 million strong-populace. Why, then, does its government grapple with fears of separatist movements from its own Sunni population? Further, why does it use suppression and persecution to hold down its meager minority populations that includes ethnic, cultural, religious, and linguistic denizens whose combined numbers total just 1% and who pose no serious threat to the powerful and often highly corrupt government and military force?  The answer may lie in the rise of fundamentalist Islam, a movement that strives to make theocracy and Sharia law replace the current democratic government system. This balance of pleasing and thus containing the fundamentalist movement, which has consumed much of the Middle East and North Africa, has made its mark felt in Algeria, and could threaten to destabilize one of the continent’s most powerful.

Abstract: This research paper has been written to look at challenges that women face during armed conflict resolution, the understanding of women’s role in conflict resolution as well as giving true life events that women have faced during the conflict.  This paper analyses why women’s participation in conflict resolution is crucial particularly in South Sudan. South Sudan as one of the youngest nations in the world and is experiencing a period of civil war where the level of women’s participation in conflict resolution has been very low in past years. The Agreement on the Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCISS) offers an opportunity for women’s participation in peace processes and peacebuilding efforts. Women are essential social needs and actors, who take positions and are seen and perceived to participate in conflicts, however they intentionally play the role on the foundation of  strategies hence goals and should not be looked upon  seen as victims of circumstance or regional wars that occur within a region, Women always remain very hopeless and vulnerable in times of war and conflict situations, at the same time they remain a fundamental pillar in building  peace and are viewed as the antidote to attain peace. In what ways do Women contribute in peace building and conflict resolution? The organizations involved in women conflict resolutions. The challenges involve how women do suffer and during the resolution there are certain responsibilities that women per take politically and economically to improve the conflict.

Abstract: While some argue that migration can reduce farm labour and subsequently lower agricultural production, others point out that migration can address the critical problem of under-employment faced by many, and, hence, not necessarily lead to a reduction in farm labour input. It is against this debate whether migration will improve or worsen conditions in these farm households and their communities that the study aimed at investigating the effect of human migration on the agricultural development of Somalia. The study was guided by four objectives including; assessing the effect of internal migration on agricultural development of Baidoa District, to determine the effect of external migration on agricultural development of Baidoa district, to investigate the effect of seasonal migration on agricultural development of Baidoa district, to ascertain the effect of immigration on agricultural development of Baidoa district. The study was guided by the neoclassical theory of migration; the theory understands migration to be driven by differences in returns to labor across markets. The researcher used a cross sectional survey design method for the study. In this type of research study, either the entire population or a subset thereof is selected, and from these individuals, data are collected to help answer research questions of interest. The study selected a sample of 100 respondents from the target population of 134 using Slovin`s equation. The population was divided into three strata consisting of government officials, farming households and civil society organizations and used quota sampling. The study employed simple random sampling technique in selecting respondents. The researcher used a questionnaire to collect data in this study. The collected data was checked for errors in the entries, and any unexpected values. The researcher employed descriptive analysis, percentages and frequencies to analyze the results of the questionnaire using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 22). The study investigated the effect of internal migration on agricultural development and findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between internal migration and Agricultural development. Findings indicated that there is a significant relationship between external migration and Agricultural Development. The study investigated the effect of seasonal migration on agricultural development of Somalia and findings indicated that there is a significant effect of seasonal migration on Agricultural Development. The study investigated the effect of immigration on Agricultural Development and findings indicated that there is a significant effect of immigration on Agricultural development. A review of the findings indicated that migrants’ remittances play a significant role in agricultural development of Somalia. To maximize the potential of remittances the study recommended the development of innovative financial products that provide the migrant with control over remittance use as this may help to mobilize migrant remittances for agricultural modernization. The study recommended further studies on the role of migrants` remittances in economic development of Somalia.
