Abstract: Livestock rustling is not a new phenomenon among pastoral societies in Kenya. All counties in northern Kenya have lagged behind in term of development due to livestock rustling. In bid to contain the menace, the vexing and cyclic practice has attracted a lot of attention from scholars and policy makers. Therefore, the study sought to establish sustainable solution in containing livestock rusting in Samburu County, Kenya. The specific objectives were value of education in containing livestock rustling; assess utilization of technology and extent of livestock insurance in mitigating livestock rustling risk in Samburu County. The study adopted descriptive survey design which used quantitive and qualitative research methods. The sample population comprised of household heads, herders, security officers, education Officer, Religious leader, NGOs and local administrators. The data was collected using questionnaires, interview guides and focus group discussions (FGDs). The results revealed that the value of education and the use of technology have not been emphasized in Samburu County and this has affected the containment of livestock rustling and its adverse effects. The use of technology such as mobile phone SIM card has not been adopted in the county indicating that recovering of stolen livestock is near impossible. Further, livestock insurance has not been fully embraced in the county rustling that causes great loss of livelihood during livestock theft. The study concluded that an educated pastoral community has the capacity to stop livestock rustling, embrace technology and insure their livestock for increased productivity. It was recommended that there is need to step up efforts in increasing youth education participation especially by local administrators such as chief, County and national government officials to increase investment in education. Policies should be developed specifically on pastoralist education such as mobile schools.

Abstract: This study aimed at assessing the utilization of digital media in teaching and learning of reading skills in Mavoko sub-county, Machakos County, Kenya. Specific objectives included to: identify types of digital media being used in teaching and learning of reading skills in ECDE Centers in Mavoko Sub-county, Machakos County, establish the level of utilization of digital media as a medium of teaching and learning of reading skills in ECDE centers within Mavoko Sub-county, Machakos County and find out the views of teachers on the effectiveness of utilization of digital media in teaching and Learning of reading skills. The study adopted descriptive research design. It relied on two sampling techniques namely: stratified random sampling and purposive sampling techniques. The study targeted head teachers, teachers, and children from both public and private ECDE centers. Face to face interviews and questionnaires were used as tools for data collection. The data was presented in form of frequencies, percentages and in form of tables and charts.  The study revealed that several digital media were provided for use in teaching by the ECDE teachers, although most of instructional media were inadequate. The findings disclosed that the common digital media were computers/electronic learning aids. The study analysis also revealed that the level of utilization was generally low but comparatively high in private as opposed to the public ECDE centers. Most of the private ECDE teachers rated effectiveness of the use of digital media in teaching and learning as very.  The study concludes that a variety of digital media were available in the private and public ECDE centers for teaching. It also concludes that the level of utilization of these instructional media is complex and revolved around many issues. The study recommends that   all the key stakeholders concerned be involved in looking for ways of encouraging and enforcing the utilization of instructional media in the ECDE centers.  The government also needs to put more efforts on setting up the ICT infrastructure in public schools so that the benefits enjoyed by private schools children can also be felt by public schools children.

Abstract: IT sector has brought about drastic changes in the Indian job market. It offers immense career opportunities to a large number of young people.  Since employment in IT sector is often considered as much prestigious and highly remunerative, the socio-economic profile of professionals is worth considering. In this article, an attempt has been made to analyze the socio-economic background of IT professionals in Thiruvananthapuram district. For this analysis, the researcher collected relevant information from 300 IT professionals working in Thiruvananthapuram district with the help of a structured interview schedule. The study revealed many facts which are contrary to the popular believes. This study brought out the fact that majority of IT professionals belong to a very young age group of 20-30 and most of them are from rural areas. Even though, majority of them are highly qualified, they are found in all categories of work in the job hierarchy and they are working on contract basis. This study also pointed out that almost half of the professionals are getting only a meagre monthly salary.

Abstract: This research analysed the effect of leadership style and environment towards job satisfaction on the employees. The object of this research is one of education and training office owned by the government institution in South Jakarta area. Sampling method used in this research is purposive sampling with 64 people as the respondents. Data analysis is conducted by using Path Analysis and Sobel Test to determine the effect of mediation with the help of SPSS software version 24.

The results of this research indicated that leadership style has no significant effect towards job satisfaction, directly. Leadership style has a positive and significant effect towards working environment. Working environment has a positive and significant effect towards job satisfaction. Leadership style has a positive and significant effect towards job satisfaction through working environment as a mediation.

Abstract: The distinctness of human beings over animals is a subject of study, from the age of Darwin. Animals share many of the building blocks that comprise human thought but paradoxically, there is a great cognitive gap between humans and animals. This mental gap is clearly enunciated by Marc Hauser highlighting the four aspects of human cognition. In the beginning of the novel Frankenstein’s goal is to create a human being but later the creator himself denies the human nature of his creation and asserts it to be a monster. Frankenstein’s monster is not clearly portrayed as a human being; the creature is traced somewhere between the vacuum of humanity and inhumanity. This paper attempts an analysis of the cognitive demeanors of Frankenstein’s fiend with reference to Marc Hauser’s theory of humaniqueness.

Abstract: This study examined the effects of early marriage on girl-child education in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Three research questions were raised and two hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The study employed descriptive survey research design. A sample of four hundred students was chosen from four senior secondary schools by stratified sampling technique using class, sex and locality as strata. The research instrument for this study was self-developed by the researcher titled “Effects of Early Marriage on Girl-Child Education (EEMGE)”. The instrument was validated by an expert in Counselling Psychology, while t-test reliability method was used to carry out the reliability of the instrument and the reliability coefficient was 0.81. Data collected were analyzed using frequency counts and percentages while t- test analysis used to tests the hypotheses. The results showed that the major causes of early marriage are emergencies and disasters, poverty and gender inequality. They girl-child suffer denial of education, unable to take personal decision and severe health problems. The concluded that emergencies and disasters, poverty, food security, gender inequality, protecting family honor and insecurity are the significant factors that encourage early marriage; and the major consequences of early marriage are premature death, complications during child birth and also severe health problems. It was recommended that the government, teachers and religious leaders should mount massive campaign for the awareness of the consequences of early marriage. Government and communities should be committed to getting girls to school on time and to keeping them in school through the secondary school level.

Abstract: The study evaluated the effects of extrinsic factors on the patronage of residential apartments across banks in Ekiti State. The study adopted a survey research design with well structured 5-Linkert research instrument. The population for the study was 546 employees of the 16 bank branches in Ado-Ekiti metropolis out of which 230 respondents were chosen using stratified random techniques with each bank representing a stratum. Data collected were analyzed using simple percentage statistics such as descriptive and inferential statistics while Jackknife multiple regression was used to analyze the data. The results also showed that location and rental value were positive and significantly determined patronage of residential by bankers (β =4.464, p < 0.05). It was also revealed that physical infrastructure and security were significant but negatively related (β = 1.723, p = 0.05). The study concluded that patronage of residential was a function of facility type, location, and class of residence.

Abstract: Youth are the most impressive and deeply involved in the social threat of drug abuse. However drugs abuse among the Muslim youths has dominated discussion in the Muslim society. The threat of drugs abuse among the Muslim society has reached a frightening magnitude and its spread every fibre in the Muslim society. Therefore the paper attempts to examine the drugs abuse and its effects to the Muslim society, its consequences and solutions to the Muslim society. Content analysis method of data collection was employed. The paper examined many issues including the phenomenon of Muslim youth and effects of frequent drugs abuse by the Muslim youth. Furthermore, it looked at the drug commonly abused by the Muslim youth, explained and trace the effects of taking drugs and other intoxicants, also explore ways of prevention and control drugs abuse, by Using Islamic values and beliefs can be beneficial in treatment of mentally ill Muslims, through incorporation of Islamic beliefs that help in drug adherence and modification of different psychotherapeutic techniques to suit Muslim patients. Such aspects provide the basis for specific guidelines in working with Muslim mental health clients. Finally it made some recommendations that if adopted it will curve the threat of drug abuse among the society.

Abstract: This study aimed at investigating the impact of prior knowledge of behavioural objectives of a lesson on students’ academic performance in Biu local Government Area Borno state.  A quasi experimental pretest – posttest – control group design was used for the study.  Four groups (comprising 360 senior secondary two (SS11) students from Biu Community Secondary School in Borno State were taught for 6 weeks of 14 sessions. Three of the groups were prior-presented with objectives on topics in English at different time intervals before each lesson while the control group was taught without prior knowledge of behavioural objectives. Test instrument, Researcher made performance Test (RMPT), comprised of a 35 item multiple choice questions, was administered one week before the teaching session as pretest and 5 weeks after the teaching session as posttest. Data collected was analyzed by Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) and Schefe’s pairwise comparisons at 0.05 alpha levels. The result showed an initial mean difference (ID) of 3.87 at pretest level for the treatment and the control group and a net mean difference (NMD) of 2.96. The net mean difference showed there was a gain for the treatment group. Also there was no significant gender difference on academic performance of students taught with prior knowledge of behavioural objectives and those taught without it in the ( experimental and the control group). Table 4.2 on gender (F3), F=0.202, df(1,359),p-value= 0.653, partial eta square =0.001. Since p=0.6537>0.005, it means there is no significant difference on gender, therefore, Null hypothesis H02 is accepted. The partial eta square 0.001 shows there is no effect of gender on academic performance in senior secondary schools in Biu local area Borno state.

Abstract: Iyabelale is a child lullaby singing song for Bugis Tribe in South Sulawesi. Heredity is done by the support community when putting the child to sleep. Iyabelale a habit performed by moms shortly before her baby fell asleep. Aside from being a bedtime lover, there is also a parent's expectation for the child's future. Once in this song, often creeps of adults who listen to this song if re-sang, even often invite a sense of drowsiness because the characteristics of songs that are very melancholy and impressed mammase-mase '(pitiful). In the poems there is also a form of love for the child. This study aims to examine the educational value contained in the singing of Iyabelale child lullaby to Bugis tribe in South Sulawesi. The research method used is qualitative with interdisciplinary approach. The study was conducted in 3 (three) Bugis tribal areas namely Bone district, Soppeng district, and Wajo district of South Sulawesi province. The results of this study indicate that Iyabelale, Sleeping Children Song is a basic media laying the value of education in children which is a family concept in instilling the values of character education in children. Giving the child's stock early on in the form of singing lulls the child through the touch of soul caress so that the child can become an intelligent person (macca), behave honestly (malempu '), hard work (reso'), and become courageous person (Warani).

Title: IYABELALE, INTRODUCTION TO SLEEP SONG OF CHILD LAYING THE VALUE OF BASIC EDUCATION FOR THE BUGIS TRIBE OF SOTH SULAWESI

Abstract: The implementation of curriculum will be effective if the teacher understands the lesson planning, learning implementation, assessment planning, assessment implementation, follow-up of the assessment, processing and reporting of assessment results. This study aimed to describe the implementation of 2013 Curriculum for the participants of the biology subject teacher training at SMA implementing goals in Jayapura. The research used descriptive qualitative approach. The data collection techniques included Focus Group Discussions, interviews, and document analysis. The results showed: (1) lesson plan according to the guidance; but some of the syntax of learning did not fit the learning model; and some the competence indicator had not complied with the basic competence demands; (2) the implementation of learning sufficient in accordance with the guidelines: used the scientific approach; not consistently applied the learning model; character education and literacy through habituation had not been effective; Collaboration, Critical thinking, Creativity, and Communication (4C) and Higher Order Thinking skills (HOTs) were integrated in learning; books and practice materials were very limited; (3) the assessment planning in accordance with the guidelines; begins with establishing IPK; the grid problem was only used for the final assessment of the semester; but assessment instruments were made through adoption and adaptation; (4) the implementation of the assessment in accordance with the guidelines; attitude assessment through observation; assessment of knowledge through written tests and assignments; skills assessment through performance and project tests; but self-assessment, peer assessment, and the portfolio had not been done; (5) follow-up assessments were less in line with the guidelines; remedial through retest and assignment without remedial learning; enrichment not done; (6) the processing and reporting of the assessment was in conformity with the guidelines; using e-rapor application. It was recommended that intensive training; mentoring and group discussions were done to improve teacher competence and the provision of books in the implementation of Curriculum 2013.

Abstract: The study aimed at determining the effects electronic document management information system on performance of orthodox tea project in Kenya tea development agency in Kenya. The study focussed on orthodox tea project that was implemented by the KTDA head office in the three KTDA managed factories that were Kangaita, Mununga and Kimunye Tea factories. The study used descriptive research design to acquire detailed and in-depth analysis for the study. The target population comprised 430 respondents from management, designated staff and non-designated workers of KTDA head office and in the three KTDA managed tea factories. Sample size of 131 respondents was selected which represented 30% of the target population. The study adopted multistage sampling method. These involved subdividing the target population into head office and tea factories, then stratifying according to the position one holds in the organization. Simple random sampling was used to select the respondents from each stratum. Primary data was collected using questionnaire that had both closed and open ended questions. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The study concluded electronic document management system (EDMS) and automated fleet management system (AFMS) had greatly improved the performance of orthodox tea project in KTDA. The study recommends that the organization should train its employees on its Management Information Systems as well facilitate them with the appropriate facilities and support. Organizations should ensure the MIS systems adopted are relevant to the organization need and there is effective internet connectivity to enhance sharing of information.

Abstract: The quality of housing projects in Kenya has been deteriorating without sufficient informing reasons especially from empirical literature. This is manifested in numerous cases of buildings collapsing across Kenya. This study will investigate the effects of contract management practices on the performance of housing construction projects in Nairobi county Kenya. The study sought to determine the influence of contractor pre-qualification practices on the performance of housing construction projects in National Construction Authority in Kenya. The target population of the study was 66 respondents comprising of 6 project managers and 60 project team members. A census of 66 respondents was done to form the sample size. The study relied on primary data collected using a questionnaire. Descriptive statistics was used to analyze quantitative data. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis based on the thematic areas. The study concludes that scruitinizing the competence of the contract owner who prequalifies makes them to adhere to the project specifications thus better project performance. The study recommends that prequalification practices ensures that projects are carried out successively by selecting the best contractors who are highly qualified to carrying out the project.

Abstract: One of the actual obstacles to sustenance of stable peace and security in Nigeria is the existence and alarming rate in proliferation of small arms and light weapons (SALW). The small arms and light weapons proliferation stands a principal source of annihilation to human lives and property and worsen inter-communal clashes, resulting to serious violence. Most of the Nigerian borders are porous, therefore, giving room for easy influx, movement and exit of arms, human trafficking and drugs. However, high level of corruption in Nigeria constitutes the various security risks bedevilling the state. This study interrogates the threats posed by small arms and light weapons proliferation to the national security; it assesses the concerted efforts of the Nigerian government in combating the menace with a plan to proffer solutions on how to resolve the disheartening phenomenon. The study concludes that, the failing economy, insecurity, high rate of unemployment, poverty, failure of government to provide basic necessities of life and corruption stand as a cog in the wheel to appreciable efforts and policies at arresting the menace in the country. It also submits that there is need for collaborative efforts at each level of governance; local, state and federal governments in Nigeria to solve the problem in addition to the imperative role of security agencies for sustenance of the nation’s peace and security.

Abstract: In this paper, I will discuss the importance of ethics in the field of agriculture in the process of diffusion of innovations. My argument is that the consequences of agricultural biotechnologies on humans and their effects on the environment are often disregarded or underplayed in the diffusion process.  There is an inordinate reliance on biotechnologies whose diffusion is undertaken in contexts of contrived urgency in an effort to bridge the mismatch between food supply and demand in Africa. This is an issue of ethical concern.  Research should not only answer questions and solve problems, but should do so in line with the ethical values and needs of society. In explaining my point, I will rely on my observations, experiences and findings while carrying out research on diffusion of hybrid maize seeds in Machakos County.
