Abstract: Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrom (AIDS) is caused by Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is still one of the diseases causing serious consequences for people living with HIV and their families as well as Vietnamese society. People living with HIV want to be eligible to develop and assert themselves in society, first of all, they must have the family's support. The relationship between people living with HIV and their place in the family is one of the important factors that support them in the process of social integration.

Abstract: As students of philosophy there has always been a wonder about what the work of philosophers is and what do they teach their students. The wonder of this nature becomes manifest when one has to become one of the philosophers himself. Having heard it as a saying that “to err is human”, it then becomes inevitable to wonder humans are really what they perceive themselves as or something else. One of the crucial things to note is that if humans get deceived in the perception of themselves then all what they engage in will not be authentically of service to humanity. This speaks to the issue of the way in which human interactions are guided by their will or, if true, something in a form of a supernatural being outside themselves. Exploring such mindboggling issues around human existence might guide a philosopher of education to understand what really makes a person be, and at what point do philosophical teachings make guided students. In most cases students want to receive fair and just education. But without teachings of critical thinking that philosophers of education emphasize, teachers will always delve into matters of morality and forget the thought aspect that forms the basis of teaching itself. Although morality in any form of education is paramount, but it is most important to at least know the fundamental underpinnings of that morality. When teachers do not study philosophy their understanding of the applied curriculum remains shallow and proper application of it might be hindered. Without saying that morality education and curriculum knowledge is non-profiting, the argument here is that it is always most beneficial to know the foundations of those things from their philosophical beginnings. It is in that backdrop that usage of analytic theoretical framework will be employed in this paper to explore errors and other accurate uncertainties that make life and its experiences almost certain

Abstract: In Kenya, supply chain resilience is a relatively recent area of supply chain research that focuses on companies' ability to withstand disruptions. Manufacturing firms would be able to survive delays and continuously change their supply chains to satisfy the changing requirements and desires of their customers, shareholders, and other stakeholders thanks to the supply chain's resilience. The study's main goal was to determine was to find out the effect of supply chain resilience strategies on operational performance of Manufacturing firms in Nairobi city county, Kenya with specific objective of the study was to be find out the role of Multisourcing, Near shoring, product harmonization and Inventory management strategies on operational performance of Manufacturing firms in Nairobi city county, Kenya. The study's participants were all workers of Kenyan manufacturing firms in Nairobi city county, Kenya. The study's target population was all 454 manufacturing companies in Nairobi and its environs, drawn from 12 main manufacturing subsectors. The study's sample size was 189 respondents, who were selected using a simple stratified random sampling technique. To achieve this, the study was adopted cross sectional survey design.  The researcher used questionnaires to collect data from the respondents.  Descriptive and inferential statistics was applied in analyzing the data using SPSS Version 23 software. This study tested the null hypotheses that Multisourcing, near shoring, product harmonization and Inventory management strategies have no significant positive effect on operational performance of manufacturing firms in Nairobi city county, Kenya.  The study found out all variables Multisourcing, near shoring, product harmonization and Inventory management strategies have positive significance on operational performance of Manufacturing to improve on the Manufacturing firms in Nairobi city county, Kenya.  Firm’s operational performance, it was therefore recommended that firms to some extent should adopt some strategies like Multisourcing, Nearshoring, Product harmonization stand Inventory management. The study also recommends that manufacturing firms should advance on the supply chain risk management strategies as mitigation measures. Particularly, they should be careful on the subsequent dimensions of the supply chain risk management, equal risk sharing, quality planning, quality assurance and inspection in production. Enhancement of stated elements of risk management of the supply chain will lead to better supply chain risk mitigation, which will translate into improved performance.

Abstract: This study focused on the effect of the modes of communication on project implementation. The purpose of this research was to examine the role of modes of communication on the project implementation, case study of SOMA UMENYE Project. The researcher has used quantitative and qualitative data during his research. The researcher has collected the data by using different methods such as questionnaire and interview questions. The total number of the population was 105 employees. The sampling techniques used in this study is stratified random and purposive sampling method. The data quantitative data were analyzed by using graphs, tables, percentages, however, qualitative data were analyzed   by searching the general statement illustrating the relationship between different information. From the findings, it was clear 64.7% have strongly confirmed that there is a strong correlation between mode of communication and project implementation while 35.3% have said that there is a slight correlation between communication and project implementation.  The above data were also confirmed by the responses from interviews where all key informants confirmed that there is a strong correlation between mode of communication and the project success.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to assess the predictive power of audit committee features on the financial performance of listed Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in Nigeria between 2009 and 2018. Thirteen (13) banks were used over 10 years making a total of 130 firm year observation. The independent variable was audit committee size, while the dependent variable was DMB financial performance measured by return on capital employed (ROCE). The study used an ex-post factor research approach to address the research questions and the nature of the study data. The study used the panel fixed effect approach (and the estimates were obtained using E-views 9). The results show that audit committee size does not significantly predict ROCE nor does audit committee financial skill and frequency of audit committee meetings. None of the independent variables have significant predictive power on the performance of Deposit Money Banks in Nigeria. Thus, instead of DMBs focusing on expanding the members of Audit committee, they should instead consider other things that can be done to have an effective audit committee, such as gender, religion, region, ownership, etc that could possibly influence the performance of banks in Nigeria.

Abstract: Due to the severity of the pandemic, countries across the world had to accept a lot of sophisticated new technological solutions to keep the pandemic under its grip, which included embracing digital surveillance tools as quick fixes and as policy responses to the crisis. However, the use of ICTs have made it much harder to distinguish between what is considered public and private. Thus, the use of such technologies have raised serious concerns related to mass digital surveillance practices, the outsourcing of expertise or sensitive personal data to private companies, and the potential infringement of citizens’ fundamental rights. States of emergencies, like the coronavirus crisis, tend to warrant an extension of discretionary governmental powers. This can become problematic when they are used as a rationale, or as a pretext to suspend and undermine democratic principles and rights. This paper seeks to investigate the heightened correlation between the emergence of sensory power and surveillance as a means to regulate/control disease, ushering in an era of normalized surveillance, and the slippery slope that it presents.

Abstract: Humanitarian Logistics is a very important cluster of activities during emergencies due to natural or man-made disasters in an effort to prevent loss of lives and property. However, the subject is not well researched compared to the business logistics in profit making organizations where profit is their main reason of existence. The main objective of this study was to examine the role of humanitarian logistics management practices on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya. A case of United Nation World Food Program Kenya with the following specific objectives of the study: to examine the role of transport management on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya, to evaluate the role of inventory management on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya, to examine the role of order processing on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya, and to establish the influence of information flow on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya. The study adopted a cross sectional survey. The target population of this study was 270 employees from United Nation World Food Programme. A semi- structured questionnaire was administered through the e-mail survey and hand delivery. Secondary data was obtained from both published and unpublished records. The questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques were used to analyses the data with the assistance of SPSS software program version 25. The study found that both transport management practices, Inventory management practices, order processing and information flow as humanitarian logistics management practices had significant role on performance of humanitarian organizations in Kenya. A case of United Nation World Food Program Kenya hence the study recommended that managers in the humanitarian organisations in Kenya should include humanitarian logistics management practices in their strategic plan and in particular investment in transport management practices, Inventory management practices, order processing and information flow which may make it easy to bring about innovation in the organisation and good information sharing to both suppliers and clients.

Abstract: Following the Corona pandemic, which has spread across the world by September 2020, many companies around the world have been aware of the fact that they should always strive to inculcate and rely on the efficient supply chains and networks in order to compete effectively in international markets and to sustain their competitive edge. As a matter of fact, the management of supply chain has caused a paradigm shift in the way most organisation operates (Brandt, 2009) The main objective of this study was to determine role of adoption of vendor managed inventory practices on supply chain management performance in the selected automobile industries in Nairobi County, Kenya with specific objective to establish role of supplier demand visibility, communication mechanism, inventory decisions, replenishment decisions and supply chain management performance in the selected automobile industries. The study adopted a cross sectional research design. The target population comprised employees in supply chain department in selected automobile companies in Nairobi according to their size. Snowball sampling technique was adopted in this study. A semi- structured questionnaire was administered through the e-mail survey and hand delivery. Secondary data was obtained from both published and unpublished records. The questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability. Both quantitative and qualitative techniques was used to analyses the data with the assistance of SPSS software program version 25. The study found that supplier demand visibility, communication mechanism, inventory decisions, replenishment decisions have significant role on supply chain management performance in the selected automobile industries. In conclusion the study recommended that automobile manufacturing companies should source for more resources, work on its time constraints and negative attitude from some stakeholders and public when undertaking the process. Further the companies need to gain visibility into their complex network of suppliers and logistics providers to collectively sense and properly respond to changes in supply and demand, customers are less likely to tolerate delivery or product errors. Supply chain demand visibility is crucial in preventing order errors and will prevent customers from taking their business elsewhere. This will ensures them are knowledgeable about every aspect of your inventory and allows firms to better help customers by improving performance and reducing errors. Putting in place the right infrastructure can help firms to achieve better supply chain visibility and therefore reduce costs, improve performance and identify problems, ultimately improving your reputation and growth.

Abstract: The Examining Magistrate is involved in the administration of justice in Cameroon. His functions are to carryout preliminary investigations and this has caused the preliminary duties of investigation to be smooth and more matured. Preliminary Inquiry is therefore a criminal hearing usually conducted by an Examining Magistrate to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute the defendant before a competent court of law. During the preliminary inquiry, the Examining Magistrate is assisted by a Registrar and the defendant may be represented by counsel. At the close of the inquiry, the Examining Magistrate shall ascertain whether or not any offence is sustainable on the evidence against the defendant and shall make either a total or partial no case ruling or a committal order. These various orders and rulings of the Examining Magistrate can be appeal against by any disgruntled party to the proceedings before the Inquiry Control Chambers (ICC) of the competent Court of Appeal.

Abstract: Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.  Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The disease was discovered in December 2019. On 31^st December 2019, a series of pneumonia cases of unknown cause was detected in the People’s Republic of China (PRC). COVID-19 has caused States to restrict movements, closed down schools, major markets and churches and thus the virus has serious impact on the enjoyment of legal freedoms. Covid-19 has very devastating effects on economic activities generally and thus the urgent need to reduce the spread but the situation in Cameroon is difficult to handle as the negative impacts of the virus are further compounded by lack of support from the government to boost economic activities like supporting small businesses with funding and reducing taxes for big enterprises so as to reduce costs and encourage production. The general objective of this paper is to critically examine the negative impact of COVID-19 on the enjoyment of legal freedoms. One of the main findings of the paper is that Cameroon as a State committed to the protection of its citizens’ rights has ratified treaties protecting human rights of people including legal freedoms and thus to eradicate the impact COVID-19 has on these legal freedoms, the work strongly recommends that as disease outbreaks are not likely to disappear in the near future, proactive international actions are required to not only save lives but also protect economic prosperity.

Abstract: During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the US housing market has grown at its fastest pace in the past decade. In this paper, three pandemic related factors are analyzed which could possibly cause the housing boom, as well as its effects on household finance and the US economy. First, housing supply has been kept low by a pandemic induced labor shortage as well as high input prices such as lumber. Second, large number of households working from home due to the pandemic has led to increased housing demand. Third, historical low federal funds rate and mortgage rates have encouraged housing mortgage borrowing. As a result, the high cost of housing has had negative impacts on consumer finance, especially to people hit hard by COVID-19 with low income or unemployment. Government policy should be enacted to alleviate the effects of a high cost of housing. Yet, this housing boom has not reached pre-2008 levels so a severe economic crisis is unlikely.

Abstract: During the last decades, the relationship between electricity consumption, urbanization and economic growth has been well documented in the energy economics literature. In term of our present case, limited research had been conducted for GCC countries. This study is an addition to the existing literature by empirically investigates the relationship between economic growth, electricity consumption, and urbanization in the Gulf. A standard growth models will be estimated using both fixed-effects and random effects models. In addition, panel unit root and panel co-integration tests will be employed to check for the efficiency of the data. The long run relationship is estimated using fully modified OLS and: Panel Dynamic Least Squares (DOLS) methods. Panel Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) is also utilized in this study.

The study found that there exists a long relationship between GDP per capita electricity consumption, Urban population, inflation, and degree of openness. The degree of adjustment was found to be 0.43 percent, meaning that any deviation for FDI from its long run path will be corrected by 0.43 percent each year.

The main policy implication for GCC to have reasonable level of growth depends on their ability to develop and utilize the effective use of electricity power. The study suggests that to move away from oil which is fluctuate over time to establishing a good base for industrialization by the shift of utilizing a strict balance between electricity consumption and urbanization rate which it doesn’t affect in the long run the climate change.

Abstract: Children’s rights as set out in national and international instruments outline the fundamental obligations of society that are essential in meeting the needs of children. In Nigeria, the policies on the rights of children and young persons have been guided by the principles set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, as well as those in the Child’s Rights Act of 2003. Despite this, there are still challenges to the protection of children’s rights. Using a doctrinal methodology, the paper examines the history of the development of children’s rights before discussing some of the theories and approaches to children’s rights. The paper considers that the concept of children’s rights has been appreciated in Nigeria, as children are recognised as an important part of the society. However, there are differences from the western concept of children’s rights as well as societal issues which may lead to challenges in the acceptance and implementation of internationally recognised standards. Ultimately, to make children’s rights a reality, the existing theories need to be merged with the unique cultural norms in Nigeria.

Abstract: The focus of this discourse is to construct an understanding of cultural beliefs and practices on the influence and spread of corona virus as viewed from lenses of medical sociology. This review starts from the premise that we need a sociology of health agenda to manage the corona virus epidemic. The study points to the fact that cultural beliefs are an unsung aspect in our understanding of the sociology of health particularly in the management of corona virus despite the role of describing social behavior in other disciplines, including utilization of medicine itself. Some cultural fanatics among the Bakiga hold several casual beliefs that Corona Virus is a disease of the West (most developed countries) and therefore, Africans are an exception. Another competing belief is that most Africans have endured harsh conditions which made them develop immunity against the virus. Another argument is that Africans have been infected by flu and common cold and therefore, their body has requisite immunity to fight COVID 19.Culture in health interventions seems to have three domains of health beliefs and behavior that should be taken into account: (1) Cultural Identity, (2) Relationships and Expectations, and (3) Cultural Empowerment. It is essential to maximize the wealth of experience that emerges both from anthropological and sociological analysis of epidemic responses in different contexts for similar airborne diseases, including historical analyses. Although the socio-cultural practices of the Bakiga highlighted in this work have been shown to contribute to the spread of COVID 19, any future efforts to eradicate and/or contain these outbreaks should also include the medical sociologist on the African continent as the dearth of them was the main structural contributor to the course of the pandemic.

Title: INFLUENCE OF BAKIGA CULTURAL BELIEFS AND PRACTICES ON MANAGEMENT OF CORONA VIRUS: IMPLICATIONS FOR MEDICAL SOCIOLOGY

Abstract: Generally, it is agreed that information and communication technology (ICT) promotes easier planning and preparation of lessons; helps teachers to have access to up-to-date learners and school data anytime and anywhere. This is especially significant in this Covid era where hybrid education is being promoted. Therefore, this study investigated the knowledge of basic school teachers in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality in the use of ICT for lesson preparation and delivery. One hundred and two (102) out of five hundred and ten (510) basic school teachers were sampled using the simple random sampling technique for the study. A questionnaire and an observation checklist were used to collect data from the teachers. Data were coded into the IBM-SPSS version 21 to generate descriptive statistics (frequency counts and percentages) for the analyses. Findings from the study revealed that 92.2% of basic school teachers in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality agreed that ICT is a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate and to create, disseminate, store and manage information. The basic school teachers were of the view that the use of ICT in lesson delivery comes with lots of benefits to their classroom instructional practices. The findings further revealed that basic school teachers in the municipality have basic knowledge in ICT use but do not use this knowledge in their lesson delivery due to factors such as constant changes in technology, cost of ICT tools, limited time allocation for ICT lessons in the schools, technical nature of ICT, lack of ICT laboratories, and network facilities in schools for teachers and students. The study recommended that more time should be allocated for the teaching of ICT in basic schools and also, basic school teachers should be given constant ICT training through workshops and refresher courses to boost their competencies in using ICT in their lesson preparation and classroom instructional practices.
