Abstract: This report was created for a Public Action Group (PAG) coordinated by the Child Rights and You (CRY) organization. The report aims to reveal the current level of well-being for the children of Nochikuppam, Chennai, India. The ultimate aim is to provide an overall picture of the average life of a child in this upper-low SES fishing community. Furthermore, suggestions have been made to improve the services being provided by the PAG.

Abstract: ethics and ethics education have become increasingly relevant today, given the rise of unethical research practices, scandals, scientific misconduct and corporate disasters. This article reviews two papers presented by l niami and m lindorff in this regard. While lindorff asserts that organizational issues shape the objectives of research, the interests of participants are neglected, thus ignoring the possible effect of the research outcomes on individuals. She ascribes this lapse to the lack of proper guidance on the ethical responsibility of business researchers towards their participants and thus suggests ingraining these principles at college and university levels. She urges the implementation of principles of justice, beneficence and respect for persons when involving human subjects in research. Naimi on the other hand, examines this issue with an eye on the university community and emphasizes on understanding and monitoring the research process to ensure that it progresses ethically. Researchers must also understand the consequences of unethical conduct. She identified informed consent, voluntary participation, confidentiality and seven such other principles of ethics as essential in research and proposes critical inquiry, role playing and games and other such strategies to inculcate them.

Title: An Analysis of Ethics in Business Research

Abstract: This article explores the Sino-Tibet dialogue on Tibet Question in the context of the Middle-Way Policy (MWP) of the Tibetan Government-in-exile (TGiE). The series of dialogue held between two sides are chronologically analyzed. The outcomes of the dialogue are discussed with the help of primary data through collecting the opinions of exile Tibetans living in the settlements in India using survey questionnaire. Out of 58 Tibetan settlements, four are chosen based on administrative divisions set up of the TGiE: Dhramasala, Ladakh, Bylakuppe and Mundgod. Beside the sporadic dialogue between the representatives of the Dalai Lama and the Beijing, the fundamental differences have stalled the dialogue since January, 2010.

Abstract: Reading is making use of mind in order to grasp the most important points of a text. Newspaper reading increases students’ knowledge, information, as well as it improves reader’s language abilities.  As they provide fresh information on variety areas of sciences. The aim of this paper is to find the favourite contents of undergraduates in Al-Beroni University of Afghanistan in reading newspapers. This was done using both quantitative and qualitative methods. A total of 97 questionnaires were administered among the students in Literature and language Faculty of Al-Beroni University, and also ten students were interviewed. Findings show that the vast majority of students are interested to read the latest local and international issues of newspaper. Also, they read newspaper to enhance their knowledge and information.

Abstract: The Scheduled Tribes are tribes notified under Article 342 of the Constitution, which makes special provision for ‘tribes, tribal communities, parts of, or groups within which the President may so notify’. There is no definition of a tribe in the Constitution but one may distinguish some characteristics that are generally accepted: self-identification, language, distinctive social and cultural organization, economic underdevelopment, geographic location and initially, isolation, which has been steadily, and in some cases, traumatically, eroded. Many tribes still live in hilly and/or forested areas, somewhat remote from settlements. Many stereotypes flourish about the tribal persona and tribal society. Many of the tribal people are undeniably economically under-developed, and the process of their marginalization can be traced to the intrusion of British colonialism, which quickly detected in the forest that was home to tribals, great potential for appropriation of resources. Exploitation of forest-lands by both the British and the zamindars resulted in the clearing of huge tracts for commercial crops such as tea, coffee and rubber and allowing contractors to fell trees in the very heart of the forest. These actions deprived the tribal people of their livelihoods because many of them were hunters and gatherers of forest produce. The interaction with the outside world brought the tribal people face to face with problems they were not equipped to cope with, such as alcoholism and sexually transmitted diseases. In the post-Independence period, while the Constitution protected the rights of the Scheduled Tribes and accorded them reservation in the legislature, educational institutions and government jobs, other ‘development’ activities, such as the construction of large dams or the sale of timber, led to the further marginalization of some tribes. This study tries to show the real status of Scheduled Tribes in India.

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to assess the role of regional integration on security in Africa and is carried out on East Africa Community as the case study with the following objectives; To find out the challenges of security in EAC region, to examine the various forms of regional integration in East African Community and to find out the impact of EAC integration on security in East African community. The research design used is descriptive and analytical while the population is 210 from staff of MAGERWA, officials from ministry of East Africa Community and foreign affairs. The sample size is 68 selected from the total population using purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. Data analysis is done using frequencies and percentages. The researcher found out that despite the different benefits that accrue from regional integration various challenges still exist like leaders who may be having different views and intentions from integration, economies that are not strong enough to sustain themselves as a regional block and mistrust between leaders.  The researcher found out that the impact of regional integration on security include encouraging conflict resolution and working together towards a peaceful regional block. Therefore East African community is important in fostering and promoting security in the region still lot needs to be done for enhancing it within region.

Abstract: Since the economic crisis started in 2007, many developing and developed countries have suffered severely. This paper empirically examines the impact of the current financial crisis on Saudi Arabia, which has been chosen as the sample because of its important role as the world’s largest oil exporter. The hypothesis is that although the financial crisis has significantly affected developing countries, this does not include Saudi Arabia. The paper applies regression technique with real GDP for Saudi Arabia as dependent variable, whilst US real growth, real oil price and VIX Index are taken as independent variables. Prior to regression analysis, all the variables are tested for Stationarity applying Augmented Dickey- Fuller test. The results show that although Saudi growth was affected by the financial crisis, the sharp increase in oil prices helped the country through this period of crisis.

Abstract: India has achieved a remarkable sustainable socio-economic development since Independence. Unfortunately, this development has not been shared equitably by all. Some sections of the society have been left out and some areas like rural, tribal and remote areas, could not keep pace with the urban areas in development. If vast sections of society and areas are left out, it breeds unrest and is not conducive to a sustainable development of the country. Communication strategies of various types have been developed and used for motivating people and increase their participation in the pathway for rural development. The R&D organizations interested in accelerating the process of social change through communication of innovations have their goal in which the participatory process is expected to make the rural audience the makers of their own destiny.  ‘Participation’ and ‘empowerment’ have thus gained wide currency in recent development literature, as if the ideas that “people” at the grass roots level are the real flag bearers have been discovered only today. People do ‘act’, it is for us to appreciate it and materialize it for participatory people- centric movements. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, as a development actor emerged long ago in the vision and action at Wardha. Gandhi being a national political leader had basically relied on mobilization of the masses and their economic uplift through the development of cottage and small scale industries. This Gandhian concept of Panchayati Raj (not to be equated with the present system of Panchayati Raj) was to be a communitarian habitat merging the individual self in a collective life- experience and forming the basis of a gradually expanding circle of supra-local existences. Participation, in the Gandhian sense, was an organic and technical concept and not something artificially created on the prescription of higher level authorities, as is in today’s scenario. To quote Gandhi, “In this structure composed of innumerable villages, there will be ever widening, never ascending circles. Life will not be a pyramid with the apex sustained by the bottom.” 

Although, Mahatma Gandhi was not a development economist, yet his theory is important to development. The Gandhian theory of development is based on the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi's ideas on development are embedded in his philosophy of life. The body of Gandhian thought on development is as follows:

(i) the Gandhian philosophy of economic concepts that are related to development (ii) Gandhian principles of self-sufficiency (iii) the Gandhian theory of balanced growth (iv) the Gandhian doctrine of trusteeship (v) Gandhian model of sustainable development (vi) the Gandhian sarvodaya plan (vii) Gandhian concepts of austerity and abstinence.

This paper highlights the role of Gandhian communication as part and parcel of human life, articulating their grievances on local problems. It attempts to explore the Gandhian model of development and examines the relevance or irrelevance of the same in the New World Order.

Abstract: Religious ideologies are unique in themselves. They are stead fast and obstinate about the means through which they claim to take the followers to the destination. A close study of Buddhism, however sheds light on the fact that it has been the ‘’least dogmatic’’ of all religions. The Buddhist teachings have been placed in comparison with the ‘tenets’ of other religions. The towering antiquity of Hinduism and its obscure caste theory, the internationalization of Christianity, the dictatorial dogma of Islam and the claims of Semitic superiority of Judaism have all been found to be ‘’organized indoctrinations’’ that have promoted more obscurantism than enlightenment to this world. Buddhism on the other hand has not produced an agenda around which its principles revolve! It has not propounded and expounded any spiritual theory! On the contrary, the other religions have been beset by obscurantist dogmas that leave the followers confused and confounded. This article is not a panegyric on Buddhism. Neither is it an attempt to satirize the other religions. The subject of this article is not religion at all. On the other hand, it offers a wishful thinking for a moment; if the modern world followed the non-dogmatic teachings of the Buddha, it would be a better place!!!

Abstract: this research article combines discourse from the perspective of historians, philosophers, economists and political scientists to begin to describe the role of the state of brazil in the industrialization of são paulo, brazil’s most industrialized city. The focus of this discussion is limited to the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, more specifically between 1880 and 1945. Some of the intersections between the state and industrialization are investigated and discussed by looking at the agendas of different political regimes in brazil. The role of the state is discussed through the lens of policy efforts including trade regulations, immigrant labor and capital investment. A brief overview of the political structure is also discussed. Inconsistencies are found in policy approaches and political efforts may not have always had the intended economic impact during this period.

Abstract: this article is based on the prevalent low throughput rate which is a consequent of low performance of previously disadvantaged students who enter engineering studies at the south african universities.  A different view from current research of resolving this problem is proposed.  Research on the poor performance for these students tends to point fingers at external factors such as poor schooling for the disadvantaged. This article highlights the overlooked positive attribute about black engineering students, namely, their excellent academic achievement in high schools which gained them entry into the engineering programs at the university. Research on gifted education regards these students as exhibiting schoolhouse giftedness. Therefore, the article suggests that these youngsters are actually underachieving, which is a reversible phenomenon. In line with studies on the development of talent, nurturing environment and inappropriate self-theories are put forward as the factors for these students’ underachievement. Furthermore, interpersonal expectancy effect theory is proposed as the basis for future interventions to address the problem of underachievement in engineering studies at the universities.

Abstract: The present study aimed to examine the link between Imperialism and Culture in A Passage to India, to show that Forster meant to reinforce the colonialist ideology of superiority, along with the representation of India and Indians as stereotypes and marginalized people and culture in his novel. The study also wanted to examine the link between English man and culture and hybridism among the Indians and the development of the identity of the Indians. The study was based upon the analysis of the text of the novel in the light of Postcolonial theories. The study found that A Passage to India like any imperial discourse privileged the Europe and the European codes, and ideologies while the Indians and their culture were presented as lesser and inferior stereotypes and also based upon the exhaustive analysis of the novel in the light of postcolonial theory, has shown that the British officials in India invariably considered and treated Indians as stereotypes. The study has exposed their inherent biases and prejudices toward Indians. The study has also highlighted the impact of the colonist ideology and culture upon the indigenous culture and identity.

Abstract: This paper discusses Herman Melville Style between the Prospective hope and the Fate with Reference to Moby Dick The story features two protagonists, Ahab and Ishmael, who both fulfill ritual roles and embody two states of mind. The theme of this paper is that of a continuous search for an answer which is elusive and inscrutable. This paper seeks to understand Herman Melville Style between the Prospective hope and the Fate Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick offers a diversity of human conducts towards nature. This paper probes into the ethical motives behind the respective conducts of the main characters, namely, captain Ahab, the chief mate Starbuck, the sailor Ishmael. Full of vengeance, Ahab abandons human reason and deals with the conflict between Moby-Dick and him according to the law of the jungle. Reasonable and indifferent, Starbuck emphasizes the economic value of the whales and his conduct is driven by the anthropocentric economic ethic. Diametrically opposite to Ahab and Starbuck, Ishmael extends his love to the whales and develops an ecological ethic during the voyage of the Pequod. The death of Ahab, the tragedy of Starbuck, together with the survival of Ishmael best illustrate Melvilles’ ethical leanings and further reveal his ethical thought delivered in the novel.

Abstract: A close perusal of the works of Kamala Das has been done to elicit the ‘’disillusionment’’ or ‘’hallucinations’’ leading to an explicit sensual theory unseen hitherto in Indian writing in English. All works of the writer, including her poems, stories, memoirs and other forms of writings have been perused to trace the writer’s journey through a landscape of hallucination and disillusionment leaving the readers confounded more often than not! It also emerges that the great poetess has always had an insatiable desire that is often seen by conservatives as blasphemous and the modernists as voyeuristic. But neither of these schools should be taken seriously. The following analysis makes every possible effort to be objective and discerning so as to arrive at fair and just conclusions!
