Abstract: The purpose of the study was to assess the role of pastors' leadership in the mission of the Nakuru Pastor's Fellowship. The study is of great significance to church fellowships in resolving issues affecting the leadership of pastor fellowships in achieving their missionary and evangelical mission. The study adopted descriptive research design. The study target population was 104 Pastors from Nakuru Pastor's Fellowship. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) version 24 statistical software. The extracted data was quantitative and was analysed using descriptive statistics. The finding was presented in tables and charts due to ease of interpretation. The research concluded that the leadership styles used in pastor's fellowship included, transformational, transactional, servant leadership, team leadership and participative leadership. but transformational leadership style is the most appropriate in enhancing pastor's fellowship agenda.The study findings further revealed that Nakuru Pastor's fellowship is more involved in missionary work, therefore, the paper recommends that pastor's fellowship should also be involved in social responsibilities such as helping the less privileged members of the society like the building of children homes, health facilities and schools.

Abstract: Acquiring English as a second language and engaging children in reading novels have some effects on how they acquire new language. The improvement of a child is not only about himself but also there are some factors concerning it thus this paper aims to describe the different genre of English novels, as well as its advantages, how it strengthens English as a second language, the problems encountered and solutions. The researcher employs descriptive method and utilizes four higher institution of learning in South East Asia. It is found out that reading is central to the concepts of modernization as it provides a means for the reader to obtain ideas that contribute to widening one’s mental horizon and multiplying opportunities for experience. However problems arises in reading English novels such as unfamiliarity with words, challenges of comprehension due to complexity and language barrier, and difficulty understanding the author’s message.

Abstract: Swami Vivekananda-one of the renowned saints of India, in his list of God’s gifts, includes teaching, as it illuminates human minds and removes darkness from the world. The first Prime Minister of India Mr Jawaharlal Nehru says that no nation can think of prosperity of any kind in any field, unless people of the nation are educated. All those who are of real concern for civilized and cultured survival of humanity and the welfare of the nation have much insisted on quality education being imparted. It is education that determines the fate of any country. 

One of the greatest challenges for every teacher is to capture the attention of students during the teaching-learning process. However, for a teacher who is totally committed to teaching knows that even though capturing students’ attention is quite challenging, it is not something improbable. Any class instruction in the absence of appropriate method and approach is of no value from the perspectives of students. Innovations add value to experience. Application of approaches and methods cannot be logically and ethically termed as innovations, but innovations are born out of one’s own experiential observations. Innovations can be well tried by means of making meaningful, practical and beneficial modification in the pedagogical strategies, ultimately aiming at making teaching-learning process as effective as possible.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to examine factors affecting employee financial performance in the Islamic banks. Basic questions surround the main objectives which were asset quality, liquidity management, management efficiency and capital structures. The study was conducted through a samplings survey using existing employee, ex-employees, and department heads. Random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the sample size from the population. Questionnaires, interview, and document analysis techniques were used for data collection. Descriptive statistics such as, cross tabulation were employed for data analysis. Based on the data analysis the following findings were recorded that major activities of the banking organization were affected by capital structure, followed by management competencies, regulations and Islamic culture also influenced to a great extent the performance of the banks.

Abstract: Kunstlerroman, which arose concurrently with industrialized capitalism, are characterized by the integration of the social process with the development of an individual, but the English variety is distinguished from the French and German by its overriding ethical concern. The English Kunstlerroman can be further sub divided into novels of accountability and novels of empowerment. This dissertation presents the novels Possession and Pleasure city by Indian novelist Kamala Markandaya, as Kunstlerroman, a class of novels that deal with the formative years of an individual up to his development as an adult.

The novels describe how Kamala Markandaya uses the spiritual ideals of asceticism to explore the lives of people. The novels discuss the significance of the name of the protagonist and also cite how the novelist tackled the Hindu ethos.

Abstract: There is a remarkable difference between an organization and an institution. While the former is dispensable, saleable, contractible, or simply extinguish, the later is indispensable, worth preserving and ought to be preserved. For legitimacy and survival, organizations need to develop into an institution. That is what institutionalization stands for. This paper examined institutionalization from the two lenses of the old institutionalism and the new institutionalism which signify the point of departure of this paper from similar studies. The paper concludes that the two schools of thought are complementary rather than mutually exclusive. Hence, the paper advocate for ‘complete institutionalization’. The paper also considered institutionalization as a tool for organizational healthy perpetuation and equally regards institutionalization as an organization fact of life that imposes itself on the organization willy-nilly.

Abstract: Character education needs to be reinforced into national movement of Nation Character Education through Character Education Reinforcement program (PPK). Teachers as one important factor in building character through the implementation of PPK in learning. Efforts to increase the professionalism of teachers can, among others, be conducted through training, research, scientific writing, and professional activities as well as through the Teachers Consultative Meeting (MGMP). This study aims to (1) describe procedural and conceptual development of PPK model in MGMP High School Economics in Malang city, (2) to validate PPK model development product, (3) to know product development trial result, and (4) to know effectiveness of PPK implementation MGMP High School Economics in Malang city. This type of research is Research and Development (R & D). As the subject of research is the participants of MGMP Economic High School in Malang city period 2016 - 2017 as respondents and perpetrators of product testing. Respondents consisted of 40 teachers from 24 high schools in Malang. The results of this study indicate that; (1) Conceptual model of PPK model development in MGMP City economy refers to Borg's theory, W.R. & Gall, M.D. (1983) has been applied in this research, (2) Product development consists of: MGMP syllabus, RPP, MGMP teaching materials, MGMP activity sheets, and evaluation of MGMP implementation. Product development has been validated by development research experts and attitude learning experts as a reference to improve and refine product development, (3) Based on product trial, model development model in MGMP Economic Malang city is considered good and appropriate to be applied, 4) Based on the analysis of product development quantity, product quality of development, function or product utilization of PPK development, PPK model development product in MGMP Economic Malang city can be considered effective to be implemented in high school economy learning in Malang city.

Abstract: Since the end of the Cold War and the subsequent shift in political and economic relationships between the global North and South, the demand for good governance has become the shorthand for changing the scope of exercise of authority in aids-seeking nations from ‘government’ towards ‘governance’ with transparency, accountability, inclusiveness and wider scope for human rights, all becoming recurrent vocabularies. What is also often encoded in good governance is the fight against corruption. In response, most Sub-Saharan African governments have experienced decades of anti-corruption programmes initiated with the support of multi-national agencies. While it is acknowledged that much progress has been made, the pace is however, discouragingly slow especially in countries like Nigeria and Kenya. This paper argues that understanding the differential foundational structures which breed corruption in various African states is central to achieving substantial progress in anti-corruption fights by designing the appropriate counter-mechanisms. In the light of current corruption scandals and political events in Nigeria, the paper examines prebendal politics in Nigeria as theorized by Joseph (1987) to postulate the trajectory of Nigeria’s political economy into the future. It concludes by recommending the practice of full fiscal federalism in Nigeria. This would reduce concentration of excessive economic resources that promotes patronage politics at the Nigeria’s central government.

Abstract: Before the advent of Christianity in Africa, the Abagusii community had systems of teaching youth responsible sexual behaviour. This prepared them for adolescent and adult experiences. However, the introduction of Christianity and modernity in Kisii Central Sub-County over a century ago created a new culture which has interfered with traditional systems. This paper investigated the social and moral issues arising from youth sexuality in SDA and Catholic churches in Kisii Central Sub-County, Kisii County. Qualitative method of research and simple statistical tools were used to enrich this paper. Information was gathered using questionnaires, observations and interviews. Selected youth, youth leaders, pastors, priests and catechists from selected SDA and Catholic Churches formed the sample of 108 respondents. The paper established that Christianity and modernity have negatively influenced youth sexuality education in Kisii Central Sub-County. They have weakened morals because the community hardly provides informal education for socialization of youth as before. Besides, though churches teach youth sexuality, they are influenced to pre-marital sex and its attendant challenges. The objective of this paper is to share with the readers the moral and social issues arising from youth sexuality as a result of modernity and Christianity in Kisii Central Sub-County.

Abstract: No one knows the complete history of the Mawchi mine situation in Myanmar. It is more than a century old since the British occupation of Burma (Myanmar) in 1830. The high quality tin and tungsten from the Mawchi mines has been exported to the world market since colonial times. Presently, Mawchi shows scars all over the hillsides from tailings where the mining operations have dumped debris over the nearby environment and has negatively affected the local people. Through reviewing of selected social science literature on mining and its impact on the communities, especially on women, this paper explores specifically the “widows’ issue”. The social exclusion and extreme deprivation faced by widows at Mawchi mine indicates wherever widows are suffering as they live in a very long term period of armed conflict, unrest political situation as well as the mining zone, they have never been visible to the public and to the policy makers or the state. Unspoken structural violence affects people differently based on various forms of social structures and it is very closely linked to social injustice (Farmer 2004; 2009). It indicates the material, cultural and gender relations that are related into gender hierarchy and the domination of patriarchal systems, through working powers in institutions as frozen factors of structural violence that are affecting widows experience of suffering and their coping strategies. Significantly, this paper challenges the stakeholders or policy initiatives both national and global that the development agenda should be addressed the painful absence of “widows’ issues” as one of the significant important issues to include women’s economic self-sufficiency, gender equality and wellbeing.

Abstract: This study sought to propose a philosophical and pedagogically based design for addressing drug abuse among Kenyan secondary school students. The study uses the analytical method alongside the Cartesian methodic doubt in examining the student as an inherent critical thinker, the inefficiencies of current solutions to menace of drug abuse and in proposing a better way out of drug abuse. The preventive model begins with critical pedagogy which is not only philosophically founded but also practical. The practicality of this kind of pedagogy is made possible through the exercising elements of reasoning and universal intellectual standards. It is the opinion of the researcher that if critical pedagogy is used over a period of time, there will be no need of talking about drug supply since the probable consumers will have developed the capacity to question themselves and others before taking the illicit drugs.

Abstract: This study sought to philosophically explore the concept of liberation from faulty thinking to critical thinking as an ontological vocation of all human beings as a solution to drug abuse among Kenyan secondary school students. The study uses the analytical method alongside the Cartesian methodic doubt in examining the student as an inherent critical thinker, the inefficiencies of current solutions to menace of drug abuse and in proposing a better way out of drug abuse. The study found out that the solution to drug abuse is not to be found outside the drug abuser but in provocation of the actual and the potential abuser’s mind to think critically. The first cause of drug abuse has been observed in this study to be the perversion of curiosity and therefore the solution to the problem should be based on addressing ‘incorrect thinking’ through pedagogies that seriously promote critical thinking. The students who undergo serious training in critical thinking are in themselves a solution to drug abuse. This study offers a recommendation necessary for the prevention of drug abuse among Kenyan secondary school students: that is the content and method in educating teenagers in secondary schools should in themselves be oriented towards making learners critical thinkers.

Abstract: The main objective of this study was to determine whether Socrates commits Socratic fallacy. This study was based on Library material. We consulted CUEA library, Consolata Institute of Philosophy Library, Tangaza College Library and Dominican Friars library (Maasai Lane-Nairobi). We also consulted (minimally) credible internet sources. We employed knowledge and skills learnt in class in general. Of special interest was a Symbolic logic, ethics, ontology and epistemology. Since Socrates does not commit Fallaciam Socraticam, we can be assured that indeed the Elenchus remains relevant today as it was during Socrates’ life and that its importance is towards the individual and towards others. The most important and difficult study to undertake is the Knowledge of self. Socrates says know thyself, but since it is difficult and an odious task people avoid examining themselves. The best tool recommended is Elenchus. ‘Fallaciam Socraticam’ is a fallacy, but it is not Socratic.

Abstract: The rational for this study is to empirically determine the impact of Ease of Doing Business on tourism growth and development in Nigeria. This analysis has become imperative because fact has demonstrated that Nigeria tourism industry lag behind the tourism industry of other Sub-Sahara African countries such as Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, etc despite several efforts by the Nigeria government to correct the trend. A descriptive analysis was adopted in the study utilizing data collected on the variables selected from 2006 to 2016. The analysis showed that Ease of Doing Business negatively impacted on tourism growth within the period under study. It was recommended that government should evolve policies that will make doing business easy in Nigeria to reduce the burden placed on the tourist business because this will lead to the desired growth of the tourism sector.
