Abstract: This study was conducted to determine the level of competencies and performance of faculty in natural science of selected universities and colleges in Region III. The descriptive method was used and questionnaire was the main instrument in gathering data. The researcher used the convenience sampling technique, and involved a total of thirty-nine (39) faculty respondents and one hundred ninety nine (199) student respondents who were randomly selected from the different state universities and colleges in Region III. There were eight (8) institutions involved in this study. The researcher utilized the National Competency-Based Teacher Standards (NCBTS)of the Commission on Higher Education or CHED and the Survey Instrument for Accrediting Programs of the Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACUP) as bases for the questionnaire used in this study. The faculty were found very competent in social regards for learning, curriculum development and personal growth and professional development.  There was negligible negative relationship  between the aspects of social reards for learning, planning, assessing and reporting and personal growth and social development when correlated  and teacher performance significant relationship difference on the perceptions of teacher respondents on the domains when grouped according to profile variables; there is a significant difference on the perceptions of student respondents on the Learning Environment, Curriculum Development, Personal Growth and Professional Development and Diversity of Learners when they are grouped according to state universities and colleges enrolled on the Planning, Assessing and Reporting, Community Linkages and Laboratory Facilities; there is a significant difference on the perceptions of the teacher respondents compared to that of the student respondents on the following domains: Social Regards for Learning, Learning Environment, Diversity of Learners, Curriculum Development and Personal Growth and Professional Development. In view of the findings and conclusions, the researcher offers the following recommendations: (1) Strengthen the community linkages of the state universities and college in order to involve community in sharing accountability for the learners achievements, and (2) laboratory facilities should as much as possible be updated taking into consideration the advancements in technology to facilitate learning, (3) conduct periodic planning, assessing and reporting of activities to determine actions to be made, (4)Parents should be encouraged to attend and actively participate in school activities such as parent-teacher meetings and consultations, and (5) Institutions should have improved dissemination processes when it comes to research findings and school activities.

Abstract: The main purpose of the study was to examine the effect of project manager’s competency on effective implementation of real estate construction projects in Kajiado County, Kenya. The study was guided by the following four Theories: Project management competency theory, Resource based view theory, Management by objectives theory and Iceberg theory of success. The study employed descriptive research design since it minimizes biasness. The study focused on five on-going projects from each of the 52 registered real estate construction firms in Kajiado County. Therefore, the target population was 260. The unit of observation was the real estate project managers and project supervisors. The study used 20% of the target population and thus the sample size was 104 respondents. This study used primary data which was collected using questionnaires for the real estate construction projects. Simple random sampling was used to sample the project managers and project supervisors‟. The research instruments were validated by use of a pilot study, which was assessed by the supervisor. Data collected was analyzed by use of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Computer Package version 22 to produce frequencies, descriptive and inferential statistics which were used to derive conclusions and generalizations regarding the population. A multiple regression model was used to show the relationship between the independent variables to the dependent variable. The study found that project manager’s competency had a positive and significant effect on the effective implementation of real estate construction projects in Kajiado County. The study recommends that the project managers should have the required competency in order to effectively implement and manage projects. Competency is therefore critical to the effective implementation of Real estate construction projects.

Abstract: The Kenyan government and international organizations have continued to invest in the implementation of water development projects to assist the rural communities to alleviate the problem of water scarcity. The performance of these projects is the major problem as they are not successful and falling out of use at an alarming rate. In order to make the investment in implementation of water development projects more effective and worth, success rates of these projects should be increased. The Study examined the factors affecting effective implementation of water projects in Kirinyaga County by focusing on four specific objectives: stakeholder policy factors, beneficiary factors, contractor factors and consultant factors. The study was guided specifically by the following four theories: Stakeholders participation theory, the complexity theory, constraints theory and project management competency theory. The unit of observation was Project managers, assistant project managers and the project supervisors of 40 water projects and the unit of analysis were the 40 water projects implemented in Kirinyaga County for the last four years. The study adopted a census survey design with the respect of the unit of analysis which is the 40 water projects that had been implemented in Kirinyaga County in the last four years. A census was conducted since only 40 projects were studied and a census is applicable when the entire population is small. Data was collected through the use of semi structured questionnaires which were administered to the project manager’s, assistant project managers and project supervisors and analysed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 23.0. A pilot study was conducted to pre-test the validity and reliability of data collection instruments. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected. Analysis of data was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple regression model was used to find out the relationship between the independent variables. The analysed results were presented using graphs and tables and qualitatively. The study found that that stakeholder policy factors, beneficiary factors, contractor factors and consultant factors positively and statistically influenced performance of water project implementation in Kirinyaga County. The study recommends that project stakeholders should be incorporated into the project by the team, project managers ought to ensure commitment of project beneficiaries by creating an atmosphere of feeling like they are part of the family of the project implementation team and consultants should provide work plans, capacity building, monitoring and evaluation immediately before commencing on a project. This study will enable the national government to position itself and establish ways in which it can effectively implement water projects as a stakeholder, give insight to effective implementation of water projects in Kirinyaga County, provide necessary information to the water projects construction industry on the factors affecting effective implementation of water projects and the findings of the study can be used as a source of reference for other researchers.

Abstract: In the recent years, corporate restructuring has become a key strategy undertaken by many commercial banks in order to survive in the fierce business environment (World Bank, 2013). The main objective of the study was to establish the effect of restructuring strategy on profitability of commercial banks in Kenya. The study specifically aimed to; determine the effect of change of organizational structure; establish the effect of operational costs reduction; assess the effect of new technology adoption and examine the effect of competitive advantage on the profitability of commercial banks in Kenya.  The study adopted a descriptive research design and the target population comprised of 43 commercial banks in Kenya. The study applied a stratified random sampling technique to select a total of 12 commercial banks as the sample size for the study. The main data collection instruments were the questionnaires and a pilot study was carried out to test the reliability and validity of the questionnaires. Descriptive statistics data analysis method was applied analyze data aided by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) to compute responses frequencies, percentage mean and standard deviation results. Finally, Multiple Linear Regression model was employed to establish the significance of the independent variables on the dependent variable. The findings were presented using tables and charts. The study findings showed that implementation of restructuring strategy led to change of organizational structure; reduction of operational costs; adoption of new technology and increased banks competitive advantage in the target market hence leading to increased banks profitability.

Abstract: The specific objective of the study was to find out the effect of cultural impediments on participation of women vendors in public procurement and contract management activities in Narok county government. The study adopted a case study research design. The population of the study constituted all registered women vendors operating in Narok County who are 115. Census method was used as the sampling method where all the registered women vendors and the county procurement officers were considered. A Questionnaire was used to collect data. Validity and reliability was ascertained before using the questionnaire for the actual data collection. A reliability coefficient of 0.7 and more and a validity coefficient of 0.6 and more was considered appropriate. The quantitative data was coded and entered into Statistical Packages for Social Scientists (SPSS) Version 21.0 and analyzed using descriptive statistics where frequencies and percentages were computed and inferential statistics where Pearson’s correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression was computed. The study established that organizational culture did not give them chance to participate in the process. The study therefore concluded that women vendors are at a disadvantage to participate in public procurement process because of organizational culture. The study recommends that there is need for the organizations in the public sector to enhance their culture to be accommodative for women and hence enhance their participation in public procurement.

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine the role of strategic management practices in organizational performance in public sector in Kenya. Four specific objectives formed the basis of study and these were: to examine the effect of strategic leadership, strategic planning, strategic innovation and strategic quality management on firm’s performance in public sector in Kenya. The theories included: stakeholder theory, goal theory, fit theory and Juran’s Approach to TQM theory. The target population was considered to be 148 employees from Kenya Rural Roads Authority. However, the respondents were selected from different departments of procurement, finance, human resource management and corporate services. The sample size of the study was considered to be 60 employees within the Kenya rural roads authority which was arrived at in reference to other scholar’s provisions. Quantitative research design was adopted for the study. The questionnaire was used as the data collection instrument. Data analysis and interpretation was also performed based on descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics mainly regression analysis, Pearson correlation and alpha Cronbach which were used to test reliability and validity of the instruments. The finding indicated that strategic leadership, strategic planning, strategic innovation and strategic quality management had impacted majorly in organizational performance and so strategic management practices plays a great role in organizational performance. The study recommended training, skill development and strategic approaches in strategic management practices.

Abstract: Even though many corporations have adopted the following procurement practices in order to enhance their procurement performance: improvement on the level of compliance with procurement regulations, effective supplier relationship management, e-procurement and green procurement; Kenya is continuously losing billions of dollars due to procurement related corruption. This generated a lot of complaints among the stakeholders thus raising the concern about the roles of adopting the fore-mentioned procurement practices by state corporations in Kenya. The study focused on 120 employees working in different levels of management who are directly involved in procurement activities in the organization. The sampling frame was the Human Resource register at KFS. The population sample was 55 respondents. The stratified sampling technique was used since the population from which the sample is drawn does not constitute a homogenous group. Structured questionnaires containing both open ended and closed ended questions were employed to collect primary data. The questionnaires were filled and returned for analysis. Data collected was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative data analysis approaches with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. Analysis of variance, correlation and regression analysis was also used while analyzing data. Descriptive analyses such as frequencies and percentages were used to present quantitative data in form of frequency distribution tables and graphs such as bar charts and pie charts on major research questions while open ended questions were analyzed qualitatively, arranged thematically and presented on narrative form to draw conclusions and recommendations. Results show that procurement practices play a role in varying extents on procurement performance in state corporations in Kenya.

Abstract: Corruption has been identified as a major barrier to economic and social development in developing countries, and considerable research as been done into the causes of and the solutions to corruption in these countries. In this regard, this study sought to investigate effects of leadership strategies on corruption eradication focusing on Kajiado County. Specifically, this study sought: to identify the effects of corruption in leadership in public offices in Kajiado County; to establish identify the causes of corruption in leadership in public offices in Kajiado County; to identify establish the extent types of corruption in leadership in public offices in Kajiado County; to identify determine the ways in of eradicating which corruption in leadership in public offices in Kajiado County can be eradicated. The research design used in the study was the survey design. The target population for the study where the MCAs from the 56 County Assemblies in Kajiado County. A sample size of 30 MCAS where used for the study. This study  used questionnaires as the primary data collection tool and the Data collected will be collated, coded, summarized and then analyzed using the Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS). From the findings, it is clear that MCAs in Kajiado County are not satisfied with their current salary. These public servants perceive that they do not get a fair remuneration as per their expectations which may hinder the fight against corruption in the County and the country at large. However, remuneration has a moderate effect on corruption and increasing salaries of public sector workers may not necessarily reduce corruption. Regarding personal relationships and corruption, it can be concluded that business ties are the most influential relationships that enable corruption in public sector. Others with a lesser but significant effect are social ties and relationships between public officials. Personal relationships have a moderate effect on corruption eradication. When ongoing personal interactions between government officials and entrepreneurs are extensive, the opportunities for engaging in corruption might increase.

Abstract: The purpose of the study is to assess factors affecting pastors’ leadership in mission on the Nakuru Pastor’s Fellowship. The study is of great significance to church fellowships in resolving issues affecting leadership of pastor fellowships in achieving their missionary and evangelical mission. The study adopted descriptive research design. The study target population was 104 Pastors from Nakuru Pastor’s Fellowship. Data was entered and analyzed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science) version 22 statistical software. The extracted data was quantitative in nature and was presented in tables due to ease of interpretation. The finding was presented in tables and charts. The findings of the study revealed that Nakuru Pastors fellowship is more involved in missionary work therefore the paper recommends that pastor’s fellowship should also be involved in social responsibilities such as helping the less privileged members of the society like building of children homes, health facilities and schools. The researcher also recommended that while electing leaders of Nakuru Pastor’s Fellowship should consider the level of education and leadership skills in making appointments, this will help them get the best form of leadership.

Abstract: The study sought to investigate the effectiveness of leadership roles of clergy wives in church growth in Nakuru, Kenya. In the ACK Diocese of Nakuru today, clergy wives have taken a passive role in leadership by retreated from the leadership responsibility provided by the policy guidelines. Retreating from this responsibility is affecting church growth. The study was conducted in ACK Diocese Nakuru with a sample size of 32 respondents. Descriptive survey research design that embraced stratified sampling procedures was adopted. The research used closed-ended questionnaires, which were administered to the respondents selected from the population. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the study findings while correlation and Chi-square tests were used verify the relationship between the study variables. The study found out that the clergy wives play various leadership roles in their church that comprises of teaching, evangelism, heading various women missions, involvement in the choir, praise and worship, Mothers Union among others. The church was found to be growing in terms of offering and tithing, spiritual maturity, church activities and size of the congregation. However, the contribution of clergy wives was found not to have significant effects on the church growth. The study recommends that the clergy wives should be more diligent and dedicated when they offer themselves as leaders in their church.

Abstract: The aim of the study was to find out the factors influencing adoption of sustainable procurement practices in manufacturing sector in Kenya. Manufacturing sector in Kenya is expected to play a key role in the growth of the Kenyan economy with the overall aim of increasing its contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by at least 10 per cent. The specific objectives of the study were to examine the effects of Perceived Cost; Staff Involvement; Top Management support and Organizational Culture, on the role they play in the adoption of sustainable procurement practices.  A conceptual framework was developed to guide the study.  The study used descriptive survey design and sampled 45 employees. Questionnaires were used to collect data which was analyzed according to the research objectives. The study found out that Perceived Cost, Staff Involvement, Top Management support and Organizational Culture plays an important role in the adoption of Sustainable Procurement Practices in the manufacturing sector. The study recommends that while sustainable procurement practices costs more, the sector should focus on lifecycle costs, that the government and other stakeholders should ensure that there are structural and organizational changes to support green procurement practices, that staff involvement plays a big role in promoting adoption of sustainable practices and that organizations should enhance organizational culture that promotes adoption of sustainable practices and that those policies already in place should be reviewed periodically so to remain relevant and up-to-date.

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to examine the determinants of e-procurement strategy implementation in state corporations in Kenya: a case study of Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA). The study aimed to establish how information technology, Skills, Government policies and availability of resources affected implementation of e-procurement strategy in KENHA. A questionnaire was used where all the 80 staff in all departments was issued with. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires to collect data. The data collected is analyzed using descriptive statistics, regression and correlation analysis for quantitative data and content analysis for qualitative data. The study found and concluded that information technology, skills, government policies and availability of resources played critical roles in enhancing E-procurement strategy implementation in KENHA. From the correlation analysis, the study confirms that there were significant positive relationships between the independent variables (information technology, skills, government policies, resource availability) and dependent variable (E-procurement strategy implementation). The regression analysis further revealed that the four factors that were studied, explain 71.2% of e-procurement strategy implementation with resources availability contributing most to the E-procurement strategy Implementation followed by information technology, skills and government policies respectively.

Abstract: Forage management is a very important aspect in livestock management in Kenya. Animals’ feeds are too expensive and this affects milk yield among majority of low resources farmers. Inadequate feeds and low nutritional level of the available feeds limits milks production while the animal’s commercial feeds are too expensive to buy by majority of low income farmers. Despite the importance of forage to human welfare, farmers are reluctant to invest in their production using new technologies like cultivation, fertilizations, growing of new varieties and conservation as they do to other food and cash crops. The study was to evaluate forage management by small scale dairy farmers in Bungoma County. The objectives of the study were to establish relationship between forage management on milk production, and to analyze the effect of new technologies on fodder production on milk production in Bungoma County Kenya. Cost benefit Analysis model was employed and established that there w economics of agricultural technologies as a significant relationship between the variables. The study revealed that good forage management, were predictors of high milk yield, and variables such as new technologies like cultivation, fertilization, growing of new varieties and conservation were equally significant in high milk yield. Policy makers, to disseminate to farmers improved forage technologies frequently.

Abstract: Ecological crisis is a felt need in our times. There has been much research and debate as to how to come out this crisis. This essay is an attempt to bring out the reverence to nature as God’s body. Advaita philosophy of Śankara is known for its theory of Mithya (Illusion). But if we analyze his metaphysics we get a completely new picture and that is God (Brahman) Himself (Itself) is nature. It is mystical in nature. Advaita philosophy goes beyond any particular religion. Therefore the attitude of this philosophy can be a way out of the crisis.
