Abstract: National Government Constituency Development Fund is a devolved fund that was established by the Kenyan government to eradicate poverty at the grassroots level, share national resources and create employment at the constituencies. Development of the local communities relies to a large extent on how successful the CDF projects are in the area. It is therefore crucial to emphasize how well those projects are monitored and evaluated across the country. The aim of the study aimed to assess the influence of monitoring and evaluation systems components on successful implementation of NG-CDF projects in Kenya focusing on Juja Constituency. The study sought to determine the influence of capacity development, and budgetary allocation on successful implementation of NG-CDF projects in Juja constituency. The study employed a descriptive survey design. The study targeted PMC members, chairmen, secretaries, treasurers of 8 educational NG-CDF projects. The target population was 64 respondents. Census sampling was used to determine the sample size of 64 respondents out of which 61 respondents were reached. Primary data was collected using structured questionnaires and secondary data was collected through reviews of both empirical and theoretical data from books, journals, magazine and the internet. The data was analysed using SPSS and involved descriptive and correlation. The descriptive statistics show that respondents agreed that budgetary allocation and capacity development influenced successful project implementation.  The correlation findings indicated that there was a positive and significant association between capacity development and budgetary allocation and successful implementation on NG-CDF educational projects. The study concludes that capacity development and budgetary allocation affects successful implementation of NG-CDF educational projects in Juja Constituency. The study recommends that training, sensitization, and awareness of M&E tools, skills, and techniques should be conducted for PMC members of NG-CDF projects in Juja Constituency. The study recommends that the budget for M&E of NG-CDF should be increased from the current allocation to help assist in creating capacity for M&E among the PMC and the public; and that there is need for more access and availability of project documentation to the M&E project teams.

Abstract: Market forms are characterized by the existence of sellers and buyers and have distinct features or assumptions that distinguishes one from the other. Price, output and profit are determined based on the market form. This paper reviewed duopoly, oligopoly and bilateral monopoly market forms. The forces of demand and supply do not determine price and output in these markets. Price and output are determined by the assumptions underlying each market form. In Nigeria economy bilateral monopoly is not common. The most common market form in Nigeria is the oligopoly market.

Abstract: The past years have seen the spreading and influence of the Korean diaspora around the world. Philippines happens to be the top country in Asia with the biggest Korean diaspora community. This influx of Koreans into the Philippines largely for trade and touristic purposes has prompted studies into various diplomatic influences on the Philippines. Koreans now form one the biggest diaspora community in the Philippines causing them to slowly effect the lifestyles of Filipinos through culture which is popularly known as the hallyu. The Korean government also has strong diplomatic ties with the Philippine government especially since it provides aid to the Philippines. Many researchers still contemplate on whether these ties are more of a soft power Korea is using on the Philippines. This paper will hence elucidate the impact of the Korean Diaspora community on various aspects or levels of diplomacy.

Abstract: Korean wave, a term that is famous for defining how well the Korean culture has spread across the world. This came in a form of an explosive spread orchestrated by the media which gave rise to a ripple effect all around the world. This phenomenon prompted the Korean government to use it as a vantage point in the spreading and exporting of the Korean culture. One of such countries that has had a strong exposure to this Korean wave over the past years is the Philippines. Bilateral cooperation between Korea and Philippines has seen the immigration and emigration of Koreans and Filipinos into these respective countries creating an awareness and appreciation for each other’s culture. This paper examined a comparative perspective of the various aspects culture between Korea and the Philippines. It examined researchers and how the Korean wave popularly known as hallyu has influenced the people of the Philippines.

Abstract: Diplomatic ties between South Korea and the Republic of the Philippines begun when Philippines diplomatically acknowledged South Korea in 1949. The diplomatic ties were further enforced when Philippines sent troops to South Korea to fight North Korea a communist country in the 1950’s. From that time until now, these diplomatic ties have grown stronger attracting bilateral benefits for both countries on political, economic and social arears. Presently, South Korea is now recognized as one of the most prominent allies of the Republic of the Philippines among countries like the United States of America, Japan and China. The Philippine government keeps strengthening this diplomatic ties with South Korea by encouraging the presence and participation of South Korea companies, products and tourist in the Philippines. South Korea has hence greatly and influenced the Republic of the Philippines in terms of trade, funding, defense and security and culture.

Abstract: Many public secondary schools in Kenya have faced several challenges in in respect to the financial sustainability. This is evidenced by failure by some of these schools to pay teachers and other subordinate staff on the payroll of the Boards of Management. In the view of this realization, this study sought to determine the influence of cash management practices on financial sustainability in public secondary schools. Specifically the study examined influence of cash flow forecast on financial sustainability of public secondary schools in Nakuru Town East Sub-County, Kenya. The study was guided by debt management theory. The study employed a survey research design, the target population was54 respondents which comprised 27 principals and 27 bursars working with the public secondary schools in Nakuru Town East Sub-County where census survey was adopted. Questionnaire was used collect primary data. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyse data. The research findings indicated that public secondary schools were able to predict their income from various income generating activities. It was disagreed that the cash flow forecast duration was flexible. Cash flow forecast had a positive and significant relationship with financial sustainability.

Abstract: This research focused on the effect of value chain management on a firm’s competitive advantage: a case of East Africa Portland Cement Ltd. The background of the study gives an overview of the structure, characteristics, and dwindling performance of the cement industry in East Africa and Kenya, highlighting the key players alongside their individual market share. The study was based on three theories. The value chain theory elaborates on the creation of value through linkages between activities that can be the basis of competitive strategies while, the resource based view and strategic factor markets theory elaborates on the significance of the acquisition and use of key resources by a firm seeking an advantage over its competitors. A descriptive survey research design was applied to gather data. The research targeted a population size of 150 employees of East Africa Portland Cement Ltd based at its head office in Athi River. Stratified random sampling method was used to select an appropriate sample size. A structured questionnaire was employed to collect primary data from respondents. These questionnaires were distributed to 45 employees. Correlation was used to analyze the data collected and descriptive statistics used in presenting it by use of statistical tables and bar graphs. The study revealed that value chain management had a positive effect on the competitive advantage of EAPCC. It further revealed that proper inbound logistics, operational management, outbound logistics management and sales and marketing logistics management influenced the way the company competed with other like institutions. The study recommended improved differentiation of products in order to increase penetration and market share of EAPCC and gain a strong competitive advantage over the competitors.

Abstract: The Kenyan banking sector has experienced liquidity challenges over the years that have seen banks collapsing. The liquidity ratios have been fluctuating as per the bank annual supervision reports which if not mitigated could pose liquidity risk, hence contagion effect. The general objective of this study was to ascertain the determinants of commercial banks liquidity risk in Kenya. Panel data obtained from a representative sample of 37 licensed commercial banks for the period ranging 2008 to 2016 was obtained from Central Bank’s website. The study employed a fixed effect regression analysis using E-views 9.5 software to determine the influence of capital adequacy, profitability, loan growth and interbank rates on commercial banks liquidity risk in Kenya. Relevant diagnostic tests were also conducted to identify for any presence of econometric problems before the model was considered fit for inferential analysis. A negative and significant effect of profitability on bank liquidity risk existed. A similar effect was realized with increase in bank capital adequacy which had a negative and significant effect on bank liquidity risk, same effect experienced with an increase in inter-bank rate though not significant. However, a unit increase in commercial bank loans had a positive and significant effect on liquidity risk.  All the tests were conducted at 5% significance level. The study recommends the Central Bank of Kenya to closely monitor liquidity levels of commercial banks and adjust liquidity among the banks where the banks may be in such sudden needs.

Title: Determinants of Commercial Banks Liquidity Risk in Kenya

Abstract: In 1843, a 16-year-old Canadian housemaid named Grace Marks was tried for the murder of her employer and his mistress. The jury delivered a guilty verdict and the trial made headlines throughout the world. Nevertheless, opinion remained resolutely divided about Marks in terms of considering her a scorned woman who had taken out her rage on two, innocent victims, or an unwitting victim herself, implicated in a crime she was too young to understand. In 1996 Canadian author Margaret Atwood reconstructs Grace’s story in her novel Alias Grace. Our analysis probes the story of Grace Marks as it appears in the Canadian television miniseries Alias Grace, consisting of 6 episodes, directed by Mary Harron and based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, adapted by Sarah Polley. The series premiered on CBC on 25 September 2017 and also appeared on Netflix on 3 November 2017. We apply a qualitative (corpus-driven) and qualitative (discourse analytical) approach to examine mood and modal verbs for what they can reveal about the language of truth, memory and madness in the language of the miniseries. Findings reveal that epistemic modal verbs highly correlate with a somewhat manipulative narrative surrounding Grace’s recall of events leading to the murder, when she is under hypnosis. The dynamic nature of epistemics also allows us to reason along the lines of agent- vs. subject-oriented modality when assessing the ‘truth’, particularly in what may be considered the denouement in the miniseries.

Abstract: The study sought to establish the effect of warehouse outsourcing on procurement process efficiency in tea processing firms in the county government of Kericho, Kenya. The aim of the study was to establish effect of warehouse outsourcing on procurement process efficiency in tea firms. It was guided by two theories; Systems Theory and Resource Based View.  Descriptive research design was adopted using quantitative approaches. The target population was 66 which were made up of 3 senior procurement staff in each of the 22 tea processing firms in the county government of Kericho. Purposive sampling was then used to target the staff. The study used a closed-ended questionnaire in collecting primary data. The questionnaires were pretested to ensure validity and reliability. The collected data were summarized and analyzed with the aid of SPSS.

Abstract: The purpose of the study was to establish the Influence of reverse logistics on organization performance of multinational tea processing companies in Kericho, Kenya. The study has reviewed literature related to the study as well as Value Chain Model, RBV, System theory and Stakeholder’s theory. The study adopted descriptive survey research design whose target population consisted of 62 procurement officers, senior procurement officers and factory unit managers and their assistants from Uniliver tea, James Finlay and Williamson tea Kenya Limited firms in Kericho County. Closed ended questionnaires were used to collect relevant data and whereby the instruments used seven questionnaires for pilot-tested at Sotik tea selected Kenya Limited in Bomet County so as to ascertain its validity and reliability. Descriptive statistics analysis was given by data frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviations were used. In inferential statistics, multiple regression and ANOVA was used in order to test the relationship between the influence of supply chain practices and organizational performance.

Abstract: Green procurement strategy leads to efficient production at lowest possible cost. For instance adoption of Green procurement strategy has led to minimization of production cost by up to 15%. Locally, though green procurement strategy has been investigated, there is limited empirical data on cross sectional studies that cut through various sectors such as those in the manufacturing industry. The aim of this study therefore was to find the determinants of adoption of green procurement strategy in manufacturing firms in Nakuru County, Kenya. The study specifically attempted to establish the influence of regulatory demand on adoption of green procurement strategy in manufacturing in Nakuru County, Kenya.

The study was anchored on two theories, namely: Systems Theory, Agency theory. The target population was 3 procurement staff of 34 manufacturing firms in Nakuru County, Kenya all totaling 102 staff. Purposive sampling was used to identify procurement staff in each of the 34 manufacturing firms.research design used was descriptive Data was collected using closed-ended questionnaire after which they were pretested to ensure validity and reliability.finally Data summary was done using both descriptive and inferential statistics and then presented in tables.

Abstract: Firms find it difficult to accurately estimate reversal rate of products due to consumer characteristics, regulations and market dynamics.  Reverse logistics cannot be avoided since products at the end of a supply chain always have a chance to flow backward due to products recalls and warranties. This is bound to reconfigure the supply chain as on one hand, firms may try to avoid overstocking and overproducing as this may lead to higher recall rates if the market fails to absorb the products. On the other hand, the suppliers need to be maintained by the firm either by contract or through mutual understanding As such; most have not reconfigured their supply chains to accommodate reverse flow of goods. Therefore, the main objective of this study was to establish the influence of product reversal rates of supply chain performance of Agro-based processing industries in Nakuru County. The study adopted descriptive cross sectional survey and targeted 26 agro-based firms in Nakuru County from which a sample of 84 respondents comprising the overall managements, logistics managers, sales managers, stores managers and accounts managers was derived using simple random sampling. Data was collected through questionnaires and analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods.The findings revealed that product reversal rates significantly influenced to the supply chain performance of agro-based processing industries in the area Further, it was established that product product reversal contingencies practices as carried out in the agro-based processing industries in the area did not significantly influence the supply chain performance of agro-based processing industries. Finally, the findings revealed that product reversal contingencies were significant to supply chain performance of agro-based processing industries in the area.

Abstract: The entrenchment of a new constitution of 2010 which brought about county governments in Kenya and the acceptance of IPSAS for public sector accounting reporting created weight for responsibility in the running of the public’s finances. The study wished to examine Influence of Financial Accounting Controls on Compliance to IPSAS by the county Governments. The study adopted a descriptive research design with a target population of 38 comprising of senior County Government of Nakuru staff involved with Financial and accounting preparation and reporting. Census technique was used where the whole target population was interviewed given the fact that it comprised of only 38 respondents. Both primary and secondary data were collected. Inferential statistics regression and correlations were done to establish the extent to which the factors are influencing compliance to IPSAS by the County Government of Nakuru. The results of the study showed that the respondents are in agreement on the influence of PSASB’s framework controls and audit controls by office of Auditor General on compliance to IPSAS, IFMIS controls, and controls on competency of professionals showed that the respondents were not in agreement on the influence on compliance to IPSAS by the county government of Nakuru. The research recommends that the PSASB’s framework controls should be strongly engrained in the county government accounting, and proper IFMIS induction should be made.

Abstract: Several studies link employee performance management planning to employee performance. Since the ultimate goal of performance management is to improve organizational performance, there is no doubt that it is associated with employee performance. This study therefore sought to establish the relationship between performance management planning and employee performance in EAC Secretariat. A cross-sectional study design was adopted, hinged on the quantitative and quantitative approaches. The study covered a simple random sample of 57 respondents comprising employees of East African Secretariat. Data were collected by means of a semi-structured survey questionnaire. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistical tools. The study revealed that performance management planning had a positive and statistically significant relationship with employee performance, with Pearson correlation values of 0.529**. The regression analysis affirmed the correlation results, showing that performance management planning caused variations in employee performance by 58.8%.  On the basis of the findings, the study concludes that properly designed performance management plans are essential for employee performance. It is clear from the study findings that when employee are involved in performance planning especially in setting performance objectives and targets and are given clear information of performance expectations, their performance is higher. It is therefore recommended that management of EAC Secretariat puts in place mechanisms to ensure effective performance planning and have clearly documented performance plans for all employees.
