Abstract: Road infrastructures projects in Kenyan county administrations sometimes face challenges in meeting their set completion deadlines. A significant percentage of these projects exhibit delayed completion, with a time frame ranging from two to five years beyond the originally projected deadline, and in certain cases, they may even become indefinitely suspended. Certain projects may face uncertainty about their completion due to the presence of subpar work, which undermines the overall quality of the projects. Consequently, these projects experience delays and incur significant cost overruns. The aim of the current study was to investigate the influence of benchmarking on the performance of road infrastructure projects in Wajir County. The study was descriptive, the population of the study was 148 employees in Wajir county government, stratified random sampling technique was applied to sample 108 staff who provided data for the study by filling questionnaires that were administered both physically and online. The data collected was analyzed through both descriptive and inferential analysis. Results of the study were presented in tables and narratives. Bench Marking and performance revealed a β of 0.098, t=1.041 which was also associated with a p-value of .301>0.05. The study concluded that benchmarking had a positive but insignificant effect on the performance of road projects in Wajir County. The study recommended for revision of benchmarking practices as well as a commitment to make benchmarking across other counties, the current benchmarking practices were not found popular which could be a reason for the non-significant effect of benchmarking on the performance of road projects, actual visits in other counties for benchmarking roads projects or outside will be a step in evaluating whether well-designed benchmarking have a better effect on performance.

Abstract: This study sought to establish the influence of strategic sensitivity on organization performance of public institutions in Kenya: a case of Nairobi Water Company. The study adopted a case study research design. The target population was the employees at Nairobi Water Company. This study adopted stratified sampling technique to choose a representative sample of eighteen respondents (8 directors, and 10 managers from crucial departments. A semi structured questionnaire as the main instrument of collecting primary data from directors and managers at the Nairobi Water Company. The researcher used descriptive statistics such as the mean and standard deviation to also present the data, while analyzed the data and presented the results in form of percentages, frequencies, graphs and tables. The study also utilized multiple regressions analysis to find out the relationship between business level strategy and performance. Correlation analysis was also used to scale and analyze how independent variables and dependent variable correlate and whose data was put in interval and ratio scales. From the study findings, it revealed that strategic sensitivity had a significant relationship to organization performance by identifying opportunities and threats for competitive advantage. The study comes to the conclusion that leaders in the institution were focused on getting the job done by anticipating, structuring, managing, and assessing organization’s performance, and that strategic agility was seen as their role and obligation. The study recommended that top managers' capacity to cope with resource management and service delivery will be facilitated by their awareness of the many strategic views. Therefore, a comparative study can be conducted in private institutions to compare the findings for effective generalization of the findings on both categories of organizations’ performance.

Abstract: This study investigated the effect of literacy instruction on English language development in PRIVATE primary schools in Bugesera, Rwanda. Specifically, this study identified the literacy instraction that affect English language development in PRIVATE primary schools in Bugesera District, evaluated the level of English development level that is due to use of literacy instruction in PRIVATE primary schools of Bugesera District, Rwanda and determined the effect of use of literacy instruction on English language development in PRIVATE primary schools in Bugesera, Rwanda. The sample size was sample size is 33 respondents, 51 Parents of children with a sample size of 34 respondents. Primary source was gathered using questionnaire, interviews and observation methods to triangulate data. Simple random and purposive sampling techniques were parents, English teachers and Head teachers. Qualitative data were collected using interview guide while quantitative data was obtained using questionnaire. The study analyzed data using both qualitative and quantitative techniques. Content analysis helped qualitative data analysis and quantitative data was presented using statistical package for social sciences by descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlational and regression analysis). Regarding the first objective, the study reveals that literacy instruction. Writing literacy education, listening literacy, speaking literacy skills, and reading literacy teaching have the most significant effects, with 61.2% strongly agreeing and 71.6% agreeing. To the second objective, results 91.6% show a strongly agreed that The capacity to comprehend English language demonstrates the level of English development. Moreover, 82.4% accepted that The ability to express thoughts in English indicates the level of English development, 91.2% strongly agree that The capacity to follow a talk in English demonstrates one's degree of English development. The third objective felt Results on correlation between use of English instruction and English language development in PRIVATE primary schools in Bugesera indicated that most measures were positively associated with each other. Since the degree of significance was less than 0. 05. It was proposed that the Ministry of education should provide enough funds to improve English proficiency deemed to enhance the level of English development, undertake trainings, seminar and capacity development program to encourage knowledge and improving English proficiency factors the level of understanding English.  Head teachers shall monitor teachers for being sure that effectiveness for English instruction. Teachers should try to produce direct support The study recommends future researches to carry out studies in the following subject: The effect of creating awareness on importance of English language among students at all levels of education

Abstract: The research aimed to assess the effects of domestic violence on children's cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda. Specifically, this study identified the types of domestic violence that influence children's cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda, and determined the level of children's cognitive development that is due to the domestic violence. children's cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda, analyzed the relationship between domestic violence and children's cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda, and determined preventive measures of domestic violence types on children’s cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda. The sample size was 243, including 159 parents, 90 children's caregivers, and a child psychologist. Primary sources were gathered using questionnaires, interviews, and observation methods to triangulate the data. This study used purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling methods to derive a sample population from the respondents. The study applied both quantitative and qualitative methods complementarily in data collection and analysis. Content analysis helped qualitative data analysis, and quantitative data was presented using the statistical package for social sciences by descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlational and regression analysis). For the first objective, results indicate that 79.2% strongly agreed that physical abuse indicates the types of domestic violence that have an impact on children's cognitive development. 82.6% strongly agreed that domestic violence affects children's cognitive development through emotional abuse and intimidation at home; 79.9% strongly agreed that Verbal Abuse: Coercion, Threats, and Blame demonstrates how domestic abuse can damage children's cognitive development; 77.2% strongly agreed that using male privilege indicates domestic abuse, which can have an influence on the cognitive development of children. 81.9% strongly agreed that domestic violence can include economic abuse, which can have an influence on cognitive development. The second objective found that parents strongly believe that poor communication skills, low reading rates, poor numeracy skills, pro-social behavior skills, and low school completion indicate a child's cognitive development. Children's caregivers also strongly agree that poor communication skills, low reading rates, low numeracy abilities, and low school completion indicate a lack of cognitive growth. Overall, these findings highlight the importance of understanding and addressing cognitive development in children. Results on the correlation between domestic violence and children's cognitive development in Gasabo District, Rwanda, indicated that most measures were positively associated with each other. Since the degree of significance was less than 0.05, in conclusion, the study shows that most commonly, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse and intimidation, verbal abuse (coercion, threats, and blame), and using male privilege affect the cognitive development of children. The study found a strong positive association between poor communication skills, low literacy rates, and physical, sexual, emotional, verbal, and coercive abuse, as well as male privilege, and a strong correlation between pro-social behavior skills and abuse. The study concludes that domestic violence negatively impacts children's cognitive development in Rwanda. The study suggests that local leaders, police, school administrators, and affected children should collaborate to help children exposed to domestic violence. Schools should contact parents for therapy, notify local officials and police if necessary, and have a counselor to help children with psychological issues. The research suggests that the next study should be carried out on The Effects of Child Abuse and Exposure to Domestic Violence on Adolescent Internalizing and Externalizing Behavior Problems and Psychological Complications of the Children Exposed to Domestic Violence.

Abstract: The study investigated the role of head teachers’ interpersonal skills towards teachers’ work performance in public primary schools in Njombe region, Tanzania. Interpersonal skills include a wide variety of skill, though many are centered around communication skills such as listening, speaking and understanding body language. The study employed the qualitative research approach along with the multiple case study research design. The sample included 5 public primary schools, 5 head teachers and 39 teachers who were purposively selected. Data was collected through interviews and focus group discussion and then analyzed thematically. The findings showed that head teachers interacted with their subordinates through various ways using their interpersonal skills. Overall, a considerable number of head teachers were found to possess effective interpersonal skill in various identified aspects while some of them were found to lack the skills. Consequently, effective head teachers’ interpersonal skills were reported to increase teachers’ confidence, cooperation, job commitment, positive attitudes toward the job, and the feeling of being respected and valued. On the other hand, ineffective head teachers’ interpersonal skills were proved to have detrimental impact on the teachers’ work performance.

Abstract: The research assessed the influence of school feeding programme on pupil retention rates in public primary schools in Rwanda. Specifically, we analysed the implementation of school feeding programme in public primary schools of Bugesera District, evaluated the level of pupil’s retention rate in public primary schools of Bugesera District and determined the influence of school feeding programme on pupil’s retention rate in public primary schools of Bugesera District. The sample size was 375, including 53 Teachers, 54 students, 3 Head teachers. Primary sources were gathered using questionnaires, interviews, and observation methods to triangulate the data. This study used purposive, stratified, and simple random sampling methods to derive a sample population from the respondents. The study applied both quantitative and qualitative methods complementarily in data collection and analysis. Content analysis helped qualitative data analysis, and quantitative data was presented using the statistical package for social sciences by descriptive statistics (frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (correlational and regression analysis). For the first objective, results indicated that that 59.3% strongly agreed that The school has frequent discussions on the topic of school food in order to identify problems and devise solutions, 58.3% strongly agreed that The school has made a school feeding committee to ensure quality and safety of food before procurement, when receiving, during storage, cooking and serving, 63.7%  that There is a follow up of how the suppliers bring foods on time,  , 68.9% agreed that The hygiene of room is ensured before pupils are served the meal,55.6%  agreed that The teacher’s guide learners to take care of gardens of vegetables in extra curricula activities hours. This indicated there is implementation of school feeding programs. Results on the influence of school feeding programme on pupil’s retention rate in public primary schools of Bugesera District indicated that most measures were positively associated with each other. Since the degree of significance was less than 0.05, in conclusion, the study shows that most commonly, school activities such as Food and timing of meal, Food quality and quantity as well as Food nutritional value have the same attitude on pupils’ retention rate in public primary schools in Rwanda. The research revealed Increased promotion, High completion rate for both girls and boys as well as High rate of Attractiveness show pupils’ retention rate in public primary schools in Rwanda. Finally, the above factors have a positive association with pupils’ retention rate in public primary schools in Rwanda since the p-value was less than 0.05. Recommended that Rwandan government should provide enough resources and materials to support the implementation of school feeding programme to all school and encourage the parents to be involve in that programme and The school staff teacher and Headteacher must work to gether to help in smooth implementation of this programme by helping the children and help in preparing a well quality and quantinty food and also mut be given training on how to prepare a diet food.

Abstract: This study focused on investigating the psychosocial effects experienced by rape victims in Ramadhani Ward, a perilous area for such incidents in Njombe Town Council, Tanzania. Recent records from 2021/2022 emphasized the prevalence of rape cases in this ward. The study pursued three main objectives: understanding the circumstances leading to child rape in Ramadhani Ward, examining the psychological and social impacts on the children, and identifying interventions to mitigate these effects. The research employed a descriptive survey research design and targeted a total population of 15, utilizing purposive sampling to select a sample of 10 raped children and 5 respondents from the police and trauma counsellors. Self-structured interviews were used to collect primary data, which was then analysed using descriptive statistics and SPSS for quantitative aspects. Themes were identified to organize the qualitative data. The findings highlighted that children under eighteen years of age, particularly girls in primary school, were the primary targets of rape. Trauma was identified as the predominant psychosocial impact, accompanied by embarrassment and despair. The study recommended enhanced training in trauma counselling for staff in gender-based violence units, counselling sessions for rape victims, and community awareness campaigns against rape. It also called for further research to understand the motivations and root causes of the perpetrators' actions.

Abstract: Legislation provides for petty offenders to be placed on non-custodial sentences as opposed to incarceration in Kenya. However, there exists scanty empirical evidence in Nakuru County on how probation orders is contributing to probation sentences against a backdrop of persons who have committed crimes being placed on probation every year. This study aimed at examining the influence of probation orders on the reformation of offenders in Nakuru County Kenya. This study was informed by Classical Theory, Risk-need-responsivity (RNR) model and Social Control Theory. This study was carried out in Nakuru County whose ratio of petty offenders to serious offenders is significantly large. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design and a mixed research approach. A total of 229 probationers, 16 probation officers and 19 chiefs constituted the study population. Stratified, purposive and random sampling techniques were used to arrive at the sample size which was 92 made up of 76 probationers, 7 chiefs, and 6 probation officers, sub-populations in the main study. Questionnaires were primarily used to collect quantitative data from probationers while the interview schedule was instrumental in the collection of qualitative data from key informants, the probation officers, and the chiefs. Qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics (for frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations) and inferential statistics (correlation and regression between the independent and the dependent variable). This was done using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The results of the foregoing analyses were presented in tabular form. The study concludes that probation orders are important for the effective implementation of probation including a display of good behavior on the side of the probationer, reporting monthly, and dissociation with persons of questionable behavior. The Government agencies (the judiciary, the local administration, and the Probation and After Care Services P&AS) Department should include opportunities for employment for probationers to increase the success rate of reformation. The study findings could be useful to probation departments in Kenya and more so Nakuru County Kenya. Further, the findings could inform government policymakers on probation sentencing in formulation policies and reconciliation of offenders within the community.

Abstract: The current research examined the impact of group teaching approach strategies on the academic performance of students in Mathematics in public secondary schools in Gasabo District, Rwanda. The specific objectives of the current study are: to identify group teaching approach strategies to improve the students’ academic performance in mathematics, to assess students’ academic performance in mathematics and to determine the relationship between group teaching approach strategies and students’ academic performance in mathematics in public secondary schools of Gasabo District in Rwanda. The study data have been collected using research instruments such as questionnaires, interview guides and document analysis. The target population for the study was people comprised students, teachers, DOSs and Head Teachers of secondary schools in Gasabo District in Rwanda. In addition, the sample of the study has been identified through random and census approach. The primary respondents consisted of 300 students and 35 teachers selected from public secondary schools.  On the other hand, the current study collected data from key informers who are DOSs and Head Teachers of the selected schools. Moreover, qualitative and quantitative approaches have been used to analyze and to interpret data collected in order to get a conclusion and recommendations for improvement and for further studies to be done.  The findings show that that group teaching approach strategies to improve students’ academic performance in mathematics in public secondary schools of Gasabo District in Rwanda are collaborative learning, learner centered method, presentation method, discussion method, brainstorming and seminar method. The findings also discovered prevalent issue of poor academic performance in mathematics among students in public secondary schools, as evidenced by consistently low marks in national examinations.  After analyzing the correlation as well as the regression between group teaching approach strategies and students’ academic performance in mathematics, it was found that there is a statistical and significant relationship between group teaching approach strategies and students’ academic performance in mathematics in public secondary schools of Gasabo District in Rwanda with the P-value of .000, Adjusted R Square of .902 and the Pearson Coefficient of Correlation of .950**. It has been recommended that all stakeholders of education sector should to support Mathematics teaching and learning activities in Rwanda at all levels of education.

Abstract: This study examined the effect of information communication technology (ICT) on the performance of learners in Mathematics at the Secondary school level.  The specific objectives were to find out the extent by which information communication Technology (ICT) is used in Secondary Schools of Huye, to access the performance in Mathematics of learners in Secondary Schools of Huye District and to determine the relationship between information communication technology use and performance level in Mathematics of learners in Secondary Schools of Huye District. This study is useful to all stakeholders in the education sector, such as public institutions, decision-makers, district authorities, head teachers, teachers, learners, and scholars. The researcher applied a descriptive correlational study, targeting 400 teachers and 15 head teachers, this study selected respondents and key informants both purposefully and randomly. A study sample of 80 respondents was obtained by using Yamane’s formula. Information was analysed using the statistical package for statistical product and service social sciences version 26.0 to generate descriptive statistics in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Inferential statistics were produced in terms of correlation and regression coefficients for determining the size of the effect between variables. The extent by which information communication technology (ICT) is used in Secondary Schools of Huye District respondents indicated that 82.5% agreed that the use of Computer in teaching Mathematics is enough. Results shows that the academic performance for learners in Mathematics subject due to use of ICT at school indicate that 45.0% agreed that learners perform in Statistics due to use of ICT ,50% agreed that learners perform well algebra due to use of ICT in teaching. Results on the correlation between Information Communication Technology (ICT) use and learners’ performance in mathematics subjects indicated that most measures were positively associated with each other. Since the degree of significance was less than 0.05, it was proposed that all people involved in the education sector in Huye are recommended to work collaboratively in order to enhance the learner’s performance among all secondary school students in public and private Secondary schools in both general education and TSS schools in mathematics subjects. MINEDUC, through the Rwanda Education Board, is recommended to avail itself of enough needed materials and requirements in other to facilitate the implementation of Computer based learning. Further studies should be done on the Computer based learning and learners performance.

Abstract: This study investigated the relationship between using improvised materials and learners’ performance in mathematics subjects in public secondary schools in Gicumbi, Rwanda. The specific objectives were to identify the improvised materials used in teaching mathematics in public secondary schools in Rwanda, to assess the academic performance of learners in mathematics that is due to the use of improvised materials, and to determine the relationship between using improvised materials and learners ‘performance in mathematics subjects in public secondary schools in Rwanda. This study is useful to all stakeholders in the education sector, such as public institutions, decision-makers, district authorities, head teachers, teachers, learners, and scholars. The researcher applied a descriptive correlational study, targeting 252 students, 36 teachers, eight head teachers, and four sector educational inspectors. This study selected respondents and key informants both purposefully and randomly. A study sample of 145 respondents was obtained by using Yamane’s formula. Information was analysed using the statistical package for social sciences version 26.0 to generate descriptive statistics in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Inferential statistics were produced in terms of correlation and regression coefficients for determining the size of the effect between variables.

The improvised materials used in teaching mathematics respondents indicated that 84.6% strongly agreed that the measuring tapes in geometry and trigonometry represent improvised materials for teaching mathematics; 92.3% strongly agreed that coins and playing cards in probability are improvised materials for teaching mathematics; 84.4% strongly agreed that the balls of different colors in probability are improvised materials for teaching mathematics; and finally, 65.5 strongly agreed that the colored papers in analysis represent improvised materials for teaching mathematics.

Results on the academic performance of learners in mathematics subjects indicate that 79.8% strongly agreed that learning using improvised teaching materials made the learners confident and improved grades; 86.5% strongly agreed that learning using improvised teaching materials improved the learners problem-solving skills; 78.8% strongly agreed that learning using improvised teaching materials helps them to complete their homework; 84.6% strongly agreed that their mastery of mathematics content improves class participation; and 84.6% strongly agreed that the provision of school learning materials improves class participation.

Abstract: This study assessed the effects of technology inclusion in teaching and learning mathematics on students ‘competencies in public secondary schools in Rwanda. The specific objectives were to determine the level of technology use in teaching and learning mathematics in secondary schools in Nyanza district, Rwanda, to evaluate the competences developed by students in mathematics due to the use of technology in secondary schools in Nyanza district, and to investigate the effect of technology inclusion in teaching and learning mathematics on students' mathematics competences in secondary schools in Nyanza district, Rwanda. In order to have a comprehensive view of the subject, the study evaluated related literature by other academics on technology inclusion in teaching and learning mathematics and students learning competences. This study is useful to all stakeholders in the education sector, such as public institutions, decision-makers, district authorities, head teachers, teachers, learners, and scholars. The researcher applied a descriptive correlational study, targeting 150 students, 130 teachers, and 100 head teachers. This study selected respondents and key informants both purposefully and randomly. A study sample of 195 respondents was obtained by using Yamane’s formula. Information was analyzed using the statistical package for social sciences version 21.0 to generate descriptive statistics in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Inferential statistics were produced in terms of correlation and regression coefficients for determining the size of the effect between variables. The result for the first objective on technological use in teaching and learning math indicated that 83.6% strongly agreed that they utilize computers to teach mathematics; 91.0% strongly agreed that they create mathematics-related software; 85.1% strongly agreed that teachers use computer software for data analysis and statistics; and 79.1% strongly agreed that teachers utilize math operations in electronic tools. The second objective's result on students' competences in mathematics indicated that 68.7% of teachers strongly agreed that improved grades and scores are the result of competencies developed by students in mathematics. Results from the third objective on the correlation between technology inclusion in teaching and learning mathematics and students learning competences in mathematics indicated that most measures were positively associated with each other. Since the degree of significance was less than 0.05. The teacher must also make an attempt to link what students are learning to real-world situations. This will help them realize why they need to learn what teachers are teaching by using technology. There is a need to carry out research on factors improving the effective use of ICT in mathematics teaching and learning in Rwandan secondary schools.

Abstract: This quantitative research study delves into the multifaceted relationship between music education, academic performance, and academic motivation in students. Music education has long been celebrated for its potential to enhance cognitive development, creativity, and emotional intelligence. However, its direct impact on academic outcomes and motivation remains an area of ongoing investigation. To explore this relationship, a comprehensive study was conducted involving a diverse sample of students from various educational settings. This research employs standardized tests, academic records, and surveys to collect data on students' academic achievements and levels of motivation. The study aims to discern any statistically significant correlations between music education participation and students' academic success and motivation levels. Preliminary findings suggest that students engaged in music education exhibit higher levels of academic performance across a range of subjects. Furthermore, these students tend to demonstrate increased academic motivation, enthusiasm, and a stronger sense of self-efficacy. This study contributes to the ongoing dialogue on the educational benefits of music instruction and provides educators, policymakers, and parents with valuable insights into the role of music education in nurturing well-rounded, motivated, and high-achieving students. Ultimately, this research underscores the importance of supporting and integrating music education within the broader academic curriculum.

Abstract: This study examined the effect of artificial intelligence strategies on performance of commercial banks in Kenya. Performance was measured using indicators such as profit before tax, number of customers and the net promoter score. The study used a descriptive design with questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. Reliability of the study instrument was established using Cronbach Alpha, internal consistency method. Validity of the research instrument was determined using content and construct validity. The target population was 42 commercial banks in Kenya. The unit of observation was senior operations managers, product development managers and information technology managers from the banks. The study conducted a census on all the banks. Data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 25 to produce frequencies, descriptive and inferential statistics which were used to derive conclusions. The study conducted a multiple regression analysis to determine the relationship between artificial intelligence and performance of commercial banks. The results indicated that there was a positive and significant relationship between artificial intelligence strategies and performance.
