Inhibition effect of 2-Mercapto -1-Methyl imidazole on the corrosion of zinc metal in 0.5 N sulphuric acid

S.S Syed Abuthahir, M.Raja

Abstract: The inhibitive action of 2-Mercapto -1- Methyl imidazole on zinc metal has been evaluated in 0.5 N H2SO4 as corrosion medium using weight loss, gasometric and thermometry techniques. Parameters such as inhibition efficiency and corrosion rates were evaluated to assess the performance of the inhibitor. The results revealed that the inhibitor shows good corrosion inhibiting properties. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in the inhibitor concentration. The Temkin adsorption isotherm gave the best fit for the inhibitors. The surface morphology of the zinc metal was characterized by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) in the absence and presence of the inhibitors.
