Monique Constance-Huggins, Marika’ Dillard, Kentrell Jenkins

Abstract: This qualitative study explored how social capital impacted victims of the devastating 2013 tropical trough in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as they attempted to rebuild their lives. The study was based on 10 in-depth interviews. The results support the claim that social capital facilitates disaster recovery, but also draws special attention to the individual’s reliance on a spiritual being as a measure of coping with the effects of a natural disaster.

Keywords: Social capital, disaster, St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
