Abstract: ‘Dharmaśāstra’ is regarded as the foundation of ancient Indian culture. By prescribing the do’s and don’t’s the Smṛti texts deal with different facets of this śāstra. Among these Smṛiti texts, ‘Manusmṛti’ is the oldest and the most significant one. Even today, it has been considered to be the ideal in inspiring mankind to lead a happy life.
